strip progress

I have made progress on my strip tease quilt. I started with my quilting buddy, linda. Her quilt is a quilt ready for quilting, and, I am still trying to move it along as part of my 5 quilts project. Instead of sewing the columns vertically, I decided to make blocks that I can make horizontal rows. I have everything sewn into these size blocks. There are nine rows of vertical geese. Next, I will start to combine into something bigger.

There are ALOT of seams to match, yikes

stash report October 29, 2023

I bought this cute neutral print at the thrift store. I like fabric with print and words.

fabric added year to date: 139 1/4 yards

fabric used:  25 yards - Fair and square finished 25 yards

fabric used year to date: 473 yards

304.75  yards used more than bought

I sewed 7 days last week.

I have packed up my rug and my hexie quilt, and, put them into storage until after my daughter's visit for Thanks giving. I am trying to do a big clean up of the living room. I am not sure what  stitching I can do in the meantime. I did hook the moon in the center of the rug, before I put it away.

I bought a template that I might try hand piecing the old block block. I can't think of the name. I can use it on 2 1/2 inch strips.

lucky star blocks done

I have all the blocks sashed for my lucky star quilt. I have an open sew today, and I might be able to get the rows ready to go. Distributing the colors will be a challenge I am sure. I made the star blocks as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this year.

I know my quilting buddy is planning on arranging her top at the open sew today, too. It should be time for giggles and grins.

fair and square finish

I had this quilt on the maybe someday list until 2017, when, I decided to really make it. I started the string piecing, off and on, until, I finished the blocks in 2019.  Next, I spent some time making little 4 patches. It is all made with recycled shirt fabric, except the black. I love shirt fabric. It is vibrant and cozy.

The quilt became part of the 5 quilts project in 2022  I don't remember why it was not quilted then, but, instead visited the to be quilted closet, until, now.

Now it is finished - hooray- I chose this as my one monthly goal for October.

more lucky star

After finishing the side sashings on my lucky star blocks, I began adding the other 2 sashings. I have 8 blocks that are completely sashed. With these crazy kaffe fabrics, I am wondering how I will distribute the colors when they are done. It should be interesting.

lucky sashings

Last month, I taught a guild workshop with my lucky star quilt block, My plan was to use a kaffe jelly roll that I have had for a few years. Now, that the blocks are done, I have started adding the sashing. It is easy sewing, and  each one is a new surprise. I made the blocks as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this year. I have all the short sashings completed.

spool top finish

hooray - I added the borders to my spoolin around top. It is ready to join the longarm cue. I have a customer quilt to do first. I made the spool blocks along with the quiltville leader/ ender challenge 2012-2013. It became part of the 5 quilt project in August when I opened the ufo project box. Many of the blocks of 4 spools were turned wrong, and, I spent time remaking many of them. I was ready for borders late September.

sweet sashing

Last week, I decided on an on point setting for my sweet pea blocks. Then, I knew how I wanted to do the sashing. I had a chance to start arranging, and making rows. I, also, started cutting setting triangles, checking the size. I know there are calculations and tables in the quilting world, but, I find a setting triangle template my best bet for calculating what I need to cut.

Our quilting group met yesterday, I made progress on several of my 5 quilt projects. It was nice to have more than one project to do. When I would tire of one, I could move on to another to keep my interest.

spool border

I have been working on a big, spool quilt. The center top is finally finished. I found the 4 patches in the ufo box when I opened it, along with spools and instructions. It was the quiltville leader/ender challenge from 2012. That I am making instead of doing this year's leader/ender.

I made the individual pieces for the border.

And then, had the opportunity to make the long row border pieces. I am getting closer.

Hopefully, I will have a top by the end of the week

stash report october 15, 2023

A friend gifted me some 1 1/2 inch squares, after I saw quilting buddy Lucy was making a postage stamp block. This jar was jam packed and nearly spilled over when I opened it. But, I just had to try Lucy's block. I was inspired.

crazie

The color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge is neutrals. I thought it would be a good time to dig out my neutral strings, and, continue working on these blocks for quiltville pattern craizie maizie. I have more than enough strings of color, but, not many neutral. I started these string blocks a couple of years ago. I grab a bag of strings and make a few until the neutrals are gone. Then, I put them away for awhile.  This month, I am intentionally finding larger strips in neutral to make more.

uneven finish

My uneven 9 patch quilt is a finish. And, all but 3 swap blocks have been used between the circa 1880 quilt and this second one. My quilting buddies swapped blocks in 2019. I had rows together in 2022. circa 1880 was finished in February 2023. I had many leftover blocks after circa, so I made this second quilt.

teasing blocks

I've started assembly for strip tease pattern. It doesn't look like much, I have worked on making twosies with the 4 patch and flying geese.

I knew I would not like making each row vertically as per instructions. I am trying: making blocks 4 x 3. I think it will help me break it into chunks, and, give me a better chance of keeping it straight.

I played a little bit with bits and pieces and making monkey wrench.

sweet pea setting

I finished all the sweet pea blocks. I wanted to do an on point layout, so, I laid the blocks on the floor, and, figured how I would assemble them. That way, I could count how many sashings I would need. I am ready to start cutiing for the next step. I took a picture, so, that, I would remember how to offset each row. I have  trouble visualizing the angles on on point settings.

I sewed 4 days last week.

I took a break from rug hooking and made a new hexie piece for my hexie quilt. Both projects are at the large stage and a bit cumbersome. Last week, I showed the green hexie flower, bottom left, and, this week, it has been added to the mother ship. I am trying to "even out" the bottom.

hollow nine center

I have the hollow nine blocks top finished. I did add the top and bottom sashings, but, no photo. I want to applique borders. I am not sure how big I will need for the border. I am thinking 10 inches, maybe, in white. This is my RSC project for this year. Each month, I have made 3 in each color as it was picked. I have all 25 done. I started with a scrap box of 3 1/2 inch squares. The box was labeled, so, I count this as a ufo.

sweet pea block

I had a finish in my 5 quilt project, so, it's time to open the magic ufo box, and, see what treasure is next to make.

I took a class in 2017 with marianne fons using their sweet pea block. It was great class, and, I enjoyed her as a teacher. I used a fat quarter bundle that had a jelly roll, too.

this was her quilt sample.

The workshop did not include a pattern, hence, the picture. I have 11 blocks made from the class, and, a note, that I need 18 blocks.

It looks like there are cut pieces, so I might have it ready to sew. The fabrics I used were a bit bright, but, I still like them.
