june squared away

Another rainbow scrap challenge Saturday and the last of the aqua/ teal for the month of June.
This month's squared away block  included four patches which I love

And the other end of the month consequence. yep... it needs some attention. But, the cutting table mess comes like clockwork just like the end of the month. As do the moans when I think of cleaning it. I just read that next month our color is red/maroon.

snow days -where do I start

Part of my One monthly goal, was to assemble all the stitched pieces and finish the stitching on snow days. I haven't had it out since January, so I had to reacquaint myself with the random pieces and parts. I wasn't sure where to begin. I divided the parts from the extra fabric that I might still need.

The instructions are as big a book as war and peace. I scanned through them again.

And I finished the border pieces with stitchery and even pieced the very center.

Part 2 of my goal was to finish Christmas lights mystery quilt. Which I blogged about here.

And I also set a goal to cut out stella cyrana quilt which I did.

And I sewed most of the blocks together.

I met my goals and One monthly goal has been a big help. It is just enough to help me be accountable and not too much it is overwhelming.

parts and blocks

I have really enjoyed the paper piecing and working on Christmas Snowflake quilt. I find it repetitive enough that I can just set a rhythm and sew away, but interesting enough to hold my interest. And the results are great.

I don't have all the paper piecing done, but I still had to make a few blocks to see how they are coming together. They are so fun.

It's a chance to see all the fun old Christmas fabrics play nicely together and be useful.

fixing to roll roll

I had so many great suggestions for fixing roll roll cotton boll quilt. Thank you. Here is where I realized I had made all the alternate blocks too small. The easiest fix is the best fix. If I had actually string pieced the blocks, this fix would not have worked. The diagonal lines would have been compromised, but, since I don't like string piecing, and I had had some crumb blocks made already, I had decided earlier, I would try this quilt with crumb piecing. I have to see it visually, so I even made a square from paper, and folded it on the diagonal to see where I was missing the fabric. Then I took 2 inch strips and started adding them to the bottom, leaving the strip long enough to get the diagonal cut.

Putting 2 triangles together was enough to make it big enough.

much better.....

After trimming, it will be ready for assembling the rows.

rainbow sewing

The rainbow scrap challenge color for June is turquoise and teal. I had scraps to make 4 of them. My design wall is looking so pretty with all the rainbow block projects. I think if you go rainbow quilting, you never go back.

I have 32 of these blocks made for a quilt. I want 42 when I am done. A little each month is a fun way to make a quilt, especially, when each month is a different color.

grad present

Hooray! I followed these instructions for a fix for the blogger email problem and it worked.! cue the happy dance.

It is graduation season, and I have 3 open houses that I really want to attend. This quilt was for a cousin's daughter. It was a kit I purchased when visiting my daughter in Utah. It was called Mint Sorbet. I really like sewing quilt kits. All the leg work is done for you, and it is all contained in a little bag. It makes the mess on my cutting table look frivolous.

At the open house, these cupcakes were served. Have you ever bitten into a cactus? even if it is made of frosting? It is a funny feeling. They looked so real.

Christmas snowflake assembly

And now we have come to the last of the Christmas snowflake instructions and time to start assembly.

Choose a center square in a square  from week 1

add a set of 4 wings from week 2

and 4 matching corners from week 3

And sew together like a 9 patch and tada it is finished. Again, there are 16 blocks. Arrange on a design wall and assemble in rows.

square dance 4

I have been working on the mystery quilt from My Carolina Home.
I finished the May clue - allemande left- of square dance mystery quilt. The reveal has already happened, and I am really happy with the quilt. I just have not caught up yet.

I have been working on stella cyranna quilt and I have all the square in a square blocks finished.
The purple fabric is a brushed deco fabric, and the nap would make the pieces shift under the pressure foot, but I think we convinced it to cooperate.

I also tried a few triangle squares. I thought the brocade would be more difficult, but it wasn't, and it ironed nicely.

rug hooking

I am working on a rug that was a kit from w. cushing based on a watercolor by Mary Fibitch. I am not thrilled with the look of it yet. But it is coming along.
The wool in the kit was amazing.

Time to roll roll

something went wrong with this quilt. As I was pulling the quilt from the project box to begin assembly, I realized that my string blocks were just too small, not even in the "fudge it" range. sigh....
Time to get creative with my roll roll cotton boll quiltville mystery quilt. I have a feeling that I relied on my memory for making the string/crumb blocks and thought 6 1/2 inch squares instead of 8 1/2 inch squares. I have made all the parts and pieces for this quilt, so I am not just going to fold, as it were. I don't want to make new string blocks and I don't want to take anything apart. so ....... who knows.

This is the next quilt to be done for the mystery challenge

It is found in Bonnie Hunter's String fling book.

stash report June 17, 2018

There was a $2.00 bundle at goodwill this week. Some of the fabrics went right back to goodwill, but I think I got my money's worth,

I had no idea the pieced blocks were in the bundle - serendipity

I kept 5 yards which about half of the bundle.

I have a great quilt to bind today for my slow stitching that I will show next week.
