stash report May 10 , 2026

Happy Mother's day. I have a tshirt that reads I am a quilting Grandma, just like other Grandmas only cooler

I was looking for a back for my red and brown pfeffernuesse quilt top. I have a scientific method for choosing. Step 1 - look through everything I have and decide nothing is nice enough. And say that with all the fabric I have, how could it be there isn't anything. Step 2- think - I want to go the a fabric store and find something special. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I rarely find anything if I do. Step 3 - Stop being picky -It is the back after all. And I find something in my hoards of fabric that will be good enough.  Step 4- When the quilt is done... I will like it better than I thought I would.

In this case I found a hunk of red and a hunk of brown that I can sew together that will be big enough to use. Now, it is back to business.

I have started prepping for block 11. These are smaller blocks that will fit to join all the blocks. There are a lot of trees in this quilt.

orange scrap projects week 2

Orange is the color for the month of May and for the rainbow scrap challenge.  I am catching up with the red month and the candy chains. I missed several months the first part of the year.

I made square play blocks in orange. I enjoy making these. I haven't done anything with my box of 4 1/2 inch squares in a very long time.

I sewed the orange to the neutrals for my stashbuster quilt. I really is time to sew them into 4ths, but, I have a few too many projects.

And I found orange charm squares for rolling windmills.

I looked at the directions for ditch lilies again, and, realized I had missed cutting these orange squares. Now, I think I have finished cutting for the Bonnie Hunter quilt, but, I may have missed something, yet again.

5 quilt May, 8, 2026

last report December 26, 2025

It has been awhile since my last report of the 5 quilt project. Matter of fact, I completely forgot about it while in Florida.

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I have 32 quilts this year that are in the running for time at the sewing machine. In 2024, I finished 41. It was a miracle. In 2025, I finished 14. I don't know what the difference was. I do know the 5 quilt project has been a true help in overcoming overwhelm and procrastination. But, some quilts take longer than others.  The first mention I found of the 5 quilts was in October 2021. I remember, I was talking with quilty friends and mentioned I was overwhelmed with the shear number of ufos and quilts I want to make. A friend said, maybe if you just focus on a small number of quilts at a time.... And tada, the sun came out and everything was unicorns and rainbows. It has helped me remain active in my favorite sport ( quilting)

Making a report every month may be boring, But it keeps my mind focused. I will try to stay up to date with that. That is why I have decided to bring it back for me in 2026. I am a little late getting started.

hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border appliqued. I have cut the flowers and the stem is ready. I just need to attach. This is still on the list for 2026, but, I haven't worked on it lately.

red and brown pfeffernuesse quilt- I discovered a couple blocks turned wrong and had to rip them out and turn them. But, we are back on track, after I resew. It will be ready to quilt. I plan on that next Spring. It will be a top priority in 2026. It is on the frame ready to be quilted.

dresden blocks - I have all the plates machine appliqued and have started to hand sew the center medalions. I have one done.

stars 2 bits - I have had the star blocks for a few years, but, still need to add borders to the blocks

Editya Sitar baskets - I have just a bit started before I dropped the ball.

scrap cutting

I have added another goal to the 5 quilts project. I want to take one day a month and cut scraps. I will have plenty to choose from since I really didn't cut any for 2024, and the bags of uncut scraps are piling up, all over the fabric room.  Last year, the total was 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.
And I plan on continuing this in 2026, even though, I see no discernable difference in the scrap piles.

quilts to be quilted:

1. wedding ring I have had this ready for a few years, but, I am afraid to quilt it myself. I want it to be special and I don't do special. So I will work to talk my self into it..... some day That didn't happen in
2025

2. pfeffernusse

3. blue skies

4 yellow string baby quilt

Block 9 is finished. I just discovered I  have lost a block kit. sigh... It looks like there will be some tidying going on here.

I am back in the groove for my Christmas in new England rug hooking, too.

It was time to move the rug on the rug hooking floor frame. I took the time to take a picture on the floor. But, I missed the red house ( the left about 8 o'clock) sigh... Nearly 1/2 is done yay.

orange scrap projects week 1

I worked on moving ditch lilies along last year. Using orange again this year for May, I will pull  ditch lilies out, again, and see how far I can get with this ufo. I have cut the blocks and started the strip sets.

I finished appliqueing the dresden blocks. Now, I am working on the center medalions. I do not plan at this point, to put this away again. If I work on it a little at a time, I might be able to finish this year.

I have sewn a a neutral strip to red strips for the my stash buster blocks, trying to catch up the months I didn't get them done.

I caught up with the blue and green candy chains

I made candy chains  in orange

stash report April 26 , 2026

I'm trying to decide which fabric to use for the medallion in the center of my dresden blocks. I think the one on the right.

It's time to work on block 9. It looks pretty straight forward. These pieces are going to even out other uneven applique blocks in the quilt.

I have another tree finished. One more to go. It is harder to find the time at home.

pink scrap projects week 4

I finished rolling windmills in pink. I sure like making this block. Even though I know what it looks like, I am still surprised by it.

I made 3 pink blocks for my square dance  quilt. I made the 16 patches while working on other projects using 2 inch squares from my scrap drawer. I use a 10 inch square for the solid color and slice diagonally twice. Then, I trim it to 9 1/2 inches. I think the solid makes the scrappy look finished. I have really not used many solids in my quilting, and I think I want to try adding them to other projects.

We had an open sew for the guild, where I was able to finish 7 more dresden blocks  to their background. I use tmy featherweight to sew them down, but, It would have been easier using my machine with an automatic needle down function. Still, It is a lot more fun sewing with other quilters. Did I mention I started these in 1986 when my daughter was born?

I was only able to make one sugar grove block

I added pink to as many other colors as I could for my zig zag quilt blocks

The guild is having a yard sale in May. I have cleaned out about 20 real store bought charm squares to sell ( As opposed to my scrappy ones ). I am not sure how to price them. Does $7.00 sound ok? This is the last Saturday for April, and I am looking forward to a new color.
