5 quilt June and July 2026

 last report May 8, 2026

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

It's good to add a few completions to my 5 quilt report this time. I'm finding it harder to keep too many  quilts going at the same time. This year's ufo list has fewer near finishes, and more projects barely started.

Hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border appliqued. I have cut the flowers and the stem is ready. I just need to attach. This is still on the list for 2026, but, I haven't worked on it lately.

Editya Sitar baskets - I opened the box twice, and then closed it. I have been busy with the other projects, and I have only little bits of time and I want to concentrate on it.

I have added another goal to the 5 quilts project. I want to take one day a month and cut scraps. I will have plenty to choose from since I really didn't cut any for 2024, and the bags of uncut scraps are piling up, all over the fabric room.  Last year, the total was 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.
And I plan on continuing this in 2026, even though, I see no discernable difference in the scrap piles.

fabric added this week: 0 yards

fabric added year to date for 2026:  16 1/2 yards

fabric used this week:  15 yards blue skies is finished

66 x 76 = 15 yards

fabric used year to date for 2026:  69 yards

I have used  67 1/2  yards more than I have added.

I sewed 6 days last week.

I took my last block for my applique project - across the wide missourri- to Friday sew and started tracing and cutting. I have done a cabin before and I am not looking forward to that part, so I will do it first.

While I was working on my huge Christmas in new England rug hooking project. I did not want to carry it back and forth to guild every week. The huge rug weighs a ton. I found this topically relevant rug kit in my stash, and, decided to take it back and forth with me to guild. It weighs less and is easily folded and stored in a smaller bag. The strips came already cut. No thinking, just hooking needed. It wasn't a high priority. But, is is convenient.

aqua scraps week 1

This is the older ufo I chose to add for this month's rainbow scrap aqua color. It has waited a long time. When I opened the box, I realized that there isn't anything started. In other words, it is some fabric and a pattern. It isn't a real priority. what to do...

I think I am going to put this one back in the box. And work on my other projects this month.

Last month's ufo two bits  has 2 rows together.

I took candy chains, to Friday sew with all the pieces cut and ready to sew. I thought I had all I needed, but I can't count. I was only able to sew 5 of these and parts of the others.

I made 1 block for the stashbuster quilt. I couldn't wait to see how it was going to look. I still need to make more row units to get a good variety.

blue skies finish

While I was in Florida, I made the top for blue skies.  I started this quilt in 2016 when Bonnie Hunter's string book was published. I made all the string blocks, and it became a ufo. Last year, I worked on it for the rainbow scrap challenge, but, when I opened the book and saw that I would need a gazillion small hsts, I decided to take what I had and run with it. I would have loved making the hsts back when I started it, but, not now. I feel like I have too many higher priority quilts I want to finish.

I even went to thrift stores for cotton shirts to add the borders. Now, it is finished and off the list.

66 x 76 = 15 yards

stash report June 28, 2026

Last week, I mentioned my fabric room had been my Granddaughters's room for 3 years. And, that, I had not been able to use my "nice" fabric. I needed a binding for a quilt in progress. Tada  meet the first fabric that has come out to play.

fabric used year to date for 2026:  54 yards

I have used  52 1/2  yards more than I have added.

I sewed 6 days last week.

This what I thought was the last block for my applique project - across the wide missourri- While I was trying to tidy the project, I discovered another block still in it's package sigh...... What to do

I have decided to take a break from this rug. I have a patriotic rug, I have been taking to rug hooking with me to guild meeting. It is close to finishing, and I'd like to work on it for this special year. Actually, the new rug that I take now, is also a bigger patriotic, as well. So... Christmas can wait.

light scraps week 4

I added light orange candy chains, 25 made year to date. I need 40 and 45 nine patches with borders.

It was time to trim two bits blocks to 10 1/2 inches.  I have 42 finished. I am thinking 6 x 7.

Only one sugar grove block.was done. It is taking more time to finish them. I only need 4 more for the quilt, but I need to scrounge for more hsts.

When I started rolling windmills this year, I had a default of using dark in the center and light on the outside. This month's challenge to use light and pastels, I decided to try light in the center and dark on the outsides. My brain fought me the whole way, but, I like them.

dresden top

Our guild had an open sew, last week end, and, I was able to make the piano key borders and finish the dresden blocks  top. I have wanted to make this classic quilt block since I started quilting in the late 70s. I was enamored with the fabrics in the 80s. I gathered what I thought would be enough of the pink as I could, after my daughter was born. The first blocks were made with a piece of cardboard and cut out with scissors. We have it so much easier, now. My daughter was my third child with two rowdy brothers. I was definitely out numbered and I didn't get very far. But, it was meant to be a baby quilt for her. If someone had not invented the dresden template, I would have probably thrown it away by now. Even with a template, I was pretty busy, still, it was in the back of my mind. It is a blessing to think of my wonderful daughter, as I am making it.

I didn't have much room on the floor to truly get it stretched out flat. All the quilters at the  open sew, could point to some of the fabrics and reminisced about their projects from that time.
