flying home finish

Flying home is a finish. I made  this in Florida I took the blocks with me and worked on them while we were there. I bought the fabric for the borders while I was there, too. This project has a rascally past. Now you see it now you don't. I feel like I have been chasing these blocks for a long time. I started it as part of the rainbow scrap challenge in 2019. When I looked for it the next year, I couldn't find it. In an unrelated cleaning, There they were. I bundled them up and put them in the ufo closet. When I wanted to work on it as a ufo, I couldn't find it. Last year, I was looking for another ufo, and found them making friends... in the wrong box. and tada it's done. It really was flying home.

I couldn't resist adding a backing with airplanes

stash report June 7, 2026

I needed fabric for binding. I found this buried in the red tote. I think it is going to be just right. We have a new quilt store, that I visited this week, with a friend. My sewing room is bigger than this very cute shop. It has been a while since I have investigated a quilt shop. I couldn't believe the prices. It's a good thing I have a fabric investment portfolio.

light scrap projects week 1

This month for the rainbow scrap challenge, we are working to use the light and pastel colors we didn't use so far this year.

I did a recalculation for candy chains,  and decided I need one more of most of the colors. Here is a catch up of blue. My other projects have more intense colors.

I have been working on Two bits pattern from oh scrap,
using  a swap batch of friendship stars and low volume scrappy neutrals. I think it is light enough to be my older ufo project this month. I have decided to put ditch lilies away again for another time.

dresden top

Once all the medallions for my dresden blocks were hand sewn, I could begin to make rows. I did decide to make sashings. I did use my time at our guild's open sew to get this far. I think I want to make a piano key border. This was my daughter's baby quilt from 1986. After 2 sons, I wanted all the pink I could get. But, she definitely didn't like pink. sigh  I revived my interest last year during the rainbow scrap challenge.

orange scrap projects week 5

This is a bonus week for rainbow scrap challenge. Five weeks in a month is a chance to really clean up and get ready for a new color.

I was really hoping to see more progress on my older ufo ditch lilies, But, I did make some 1 1/2 inch hsts. I hope I remember to do them all year long. Maybe, by years end I will have all 640 hsts I need. I happy how much I moved this along. I can start to see what it will need to make it. Everything is cut, and some units are made.

I added the hsts to the green squares to make a bear paw. I sewed hsts from cut offs and scraps. I made over 100 at Friday group. I will have many more to go. but, it's a start.

1 1/2 hsts

I sewed the rest of the strip sets and cut the blocks to size.

I cut all the orange 2 inch squares.

2 inch squares

I have added 2 more sugar grove blocks. I think this will make 66 out of 72. My choices are getting smaller.

pfeffernuesse finish

I finished the red and brown pfeffernuesse quilt.  I started the project in 2016 here. In April 2025, the rainbow scrap challenge color was red, and I pulled this project out again to make some progress here. It's a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book string fling or string frenzy. I was close enough to a finish that I continued to work on it until the end of the year.

86 x 86

I pieced the back with red and brown.
