dresden top

Our guild had an open sew, last week end, and, I was able to make the piano key borders and finish the dresden blocks  top. I have wanted to make this classic quilt block since I started quilting in the late 70s. I was enamored with the fabrics in the 80s. I gathered what I thought would be enough of the pink as I could, after my daughter was born. The first blocks were made with a piece of cardboard and cut out with scissors. We have it so much easier, now. My daughter was my third child with two rowdy brothers. I was definitely out numbered and I didn't get very far. But, it was meant to be a baby quilt for her. If someone had not invented the dresden template, I would have probably thrown it away by now. Even with a template, I was pretty busy, still, it was in the back of my mind. It is a blessing to think of my wonderful daughter, as I am making it.

I didn't have much room on the floor to truly get it stretched out flat. All the quilters at the  open sew, could point to some of the fabrics and reminisced about their projects from that time.

stash report June 21, 2026

My Granddaughter has been living with us for 3 years while she was going to Indiana U. We loved having her. She was in my "nice" fabric room. She filled the room with her stuff, so, I haven't been able to get to my fabric for 3 years. Now, that she has moved out, I can even open the doors. I have enjoyed getting reacquainted with my fabric. The blessing is that there was nobody busily messing it up, like I have been doing in the not "nice" fabric room. haha

light scraps week 3

This week I worked on an additional pink candy chains. I have orange left to do.

I finished another batch of two bits  blocks. I am more than half way done.

I made strip sets for stashbuster and subcut them into 2 1/2 inch rows. I seem to have more green strips cut than any other color. I am not sure how to even out the colors for a more scrappy look.

I cut some light centered rolling windmills. I used a pile of floral fabrics for the centers and dark for the outsides.

stash report June 14, 2026

I dug around to find a fabric in my stash that will be perfect for the back for blue skies. I am ready to quilt it this week, or at least put it on the frame.

light scrap projects week 2

As I mentioned earlier this month, I am catching up candy chains, after a recount of what I needed. I  made a paler red and a sweet green.

I have made and trimmed 20 two bits  blocks. I tried these at open sew, but, I had to take way to many bags of strips. And I made a massive mess. It was embarrassing. I am sewing them here at home. I am used to making a mess here. haha   I am trying to use up some "ugly" neutrals and short pieces.

I worked on building more sets of 5 for stashbuster.

flying home finish

Flying home is a finish. I made  this in Florida I took the blocks with me and worked on them while we were there. I bought the fabric for the borders while I was there, too. This project has a rascally past. Now you see it now you don't. I feel like I have been chasing these blocks for a long time. I started it as part of the rainbow scrap challenge in 2019. When I looked for it the next year, I couldn't find it. In an unrelated cleaning, There they were. I bundled them up and put them in the ufo closet. When I wanted to work on it as a ufo, I couldn't find it. Last year, I was looking for another ufo, and found them making friends... in the wrong box. and tada it's done. It really was flying home.

60 x 75 = 14 yards

I couldn't resist adding a backing with airplanes

stash report June 7, 2026

I needed fabric for binding. I found this buried in the red tote. I think it is going to be just right. We have a new quilt store, that I visited this week, with a friend. My sewing room is bigger than this very cute shop. It has been a while since I have investigated a quilt shop. I couldn't believe the prices. It's a good thing I have a fabric investment portfolio.
