It's time to work on block 9. It looks pretty straight forward. These are going to even out other uneven applique blocks in the quilt.

week 4 - February green rainbow scrap challenge

I have the top for Hazel's soul searching quilt as far as I plan on going. I think I will donate it to my guild for someone else to finish.

I didn't put a border on mine

mine

I made a few more rolling windmills. with any 5 inch squares that had even a whisper of green.

For my square dance  quilt, I have added green. I add the solid color by cutting a 10 inch square from a layer cake diagonally both ways. That way I can trim to the right size. I think I will test a 9 1/2 inch scrap piece and see if it will work.

I made twosies with all the green for the zig zag quilt, I tried laying them out in a zigzag - that will be  challenging. And I don't think there are enough to make any size quilt.

Green is a favorite of mine, and, also, I am gifted scraps in that color a lot. But, I am looking forward to a new color for the  rainbow scrap challenge

week 3 - February green rainbow scrap challenge

I made the chaining blocks this week for candy chains. I used any extra green from the other blocks that I had made. I will need more than this when I need to finish the quilt.

For my square dance  quilt, I made 16 patches with 2 inch squares from my bin.

I finished the  square, play. blocks for  rainbow scrap challenge including scraps from flying home quilt I made earlier in the year

All the rows are sewn for soul searching

I had questions about the rolling windmills I am making for the rsc this year. I am happy to show you what I am doing, but, I was inspired by sara (my sewing room)here

I am using a big scrap bucket of 5 inch scraps I use 2 each of background and focus fabrics all 4 right side up.

I like to use the 1/2 inch squares portion of my cutting mat to make the diagonal cut.1 1/2 inch from the top left to 1 1/2 inch to the right bottom.

I still need to check them first.

I sew them together making sure the points extend a little from the bottom piece

I trim them to 4 1/4 inches square. I have chosen to cut off the background and the widest part when I trim. I like the narrower blade part.

I lay them out, and I chain sew them together as a set, leaving them attached

I open them, and then join the center seam.

stash report February 15, 2026

I attended a Florida quilt show, here, where I am staying. It was huge. They had a huge boutique with guild members making donated items for sale. I found my happy place. I could buy little quilt gifties for gifts when I get home. They had brown sandwich bags filled with scraps. I bought a green bag, just in case I have time this month to cut some more for my rsc projects. All the pieces are small and different sizes. Otherwise, I didn't buy anything.

week 2 - February green rainbow scrap challenge

I decided to layout my estate sale blocks and see how I want to place the colors for the rainbow scrap challenge. I had made my own soul searching quilt in 2018. Hazel had her own take on the design.

It is the first round of borders that makes these blocks stand out. I made the scrappy border last week for  square, play.

The first row of soul searching has been sewn together. I did have a bit of trimming. Each block is 24 1/2 x 28 1/2. That took some head scratching to trim something that large.

stash report February 8, 2026

I was visiting a thrift store to find warmer clothes to wear, and found these two lovely bundles of white. I seem to be using a lot of white in my rainbow scrap challenge projects, and, was afraid I might run dry. They were 1.00 a yard. They had other random fabrics, even a scrap bag (my favorite) I carried them around for awhile, hearing them whisper "take me home". But, I left the store without them.

I like these big pieces for the next cabin. They work quickly.

It was time to move the Christmas rug on the frame. It doesn't seem like it, but, I have made progress.
