I won these two fat quarters at guild for show and tell. If we bring a show and tell, our names are entered in a drawing. My name was picked. hooray

It is time for another tree.

the last tree

I decided I wanted to try a crochet technique to finish the rug's edge. I prepared the  linen by turning and sewing the linen to a 1/2 inch. I cut the strips of a navy wool and gave it a try. It was a challenge, until I found the right hook size that could do the job. I realized I didn't like a navy wool, it was too dark. So, I pulled it out and decided I would use my handmade navy wool from the background.

yellow scraps week 3

I am adding sashing to my stack and whack leaves . I usually will do anything to avoid sashing, ( I find it tedious), but these blocks need something in between them.

I like candy chains in yellow. I still have the 9 patch chaining blocks to do.

My 2 1/2 squares drawer is 60 squares lighter after adding borders to square play

While I was piecing the borders for square play, I grabbed my 2 inch drawer of  squares to make 16 patches for square dance.

stash report August 9, 2026

Next to my accucut is a small table. After I cut, I tend to pile the remnants on this poor little table. I decided it was absolutely time yo clean it. Some pieces were small, some were big. I made a stack of the prints and a box of the whites. The table looks so much better.

I need to decide how I will finish the rug I have a book I bought at Sauder last year during rug hooking week. That has instructions for a wool crochet binding. Since, it is a small rug, I think I want to try it and see if I like it.  I have zig zaged the edges and trimmed the excess linen.

yellow scraps week 2

I was able to start assembly of stack and whack leaves . I started it in 2012. It was on my ''I don't need to finish this '' list. But, I saw the colors in my project box closet, and checked how much it would take to finish it. It was doable. Interesting fabrics younger me picked.

I was tempted to just sew the purple  candy chains  I had cut, thinking it was going to be a purple month.

Again, I had already cut for purple, but, I really like yellow square play blocks.

While I was cutting rolling windmills, I pulled out shorter pieces for my stashbuster quilt. And, then, I cut a few sets that I pieced.

I even cut for rolling windmills.

stash report August 2, 2026

I have a laundry basket under my ironing board where I trim quilts before binding. It has been overflowing for some time. It was time to fold and sort. The scraps are long, and sometimes wide. They weighed nearly 7 pounds. That would be 21 yards of useable fabric. But, backings are generally not that lovely.  Do I really need them? What to do. I think I might pre- make bindings.

I dyed a new navy piece of wool to use as the background, and, I like it much better. My hubby wanted to hook the background and did a great job.

I need to decide how I will finish it. I have a book I bought at Sauder last year during rug hooking week. That has instructions for a wool crochet binding. Since, it is a small rug, I think I want to try it and see if I like it.

A fall project

I am not certain yet which color will be for the rainbow scrap challenge in August. I decided to hedge my bet, with an older ufo that will have both purple and yellow, which are the two missing colors this year. I think there was a clue in last weeks rsc post, but, I may be wrong. If so, I can pivot. If not, it's not like I don't have plenty of scraps in either color.

I took a guild workshop in 2012 with one of our guild's founding members. We made leaves using a stack and whack method. Over the years I have made bits and pieces of progress. This time, I realized, all I need is to assemble the top. And, it is topical for this time of year.

No matter the color announced tomorrow, I have broken my hesitation for assembling my rsc project for zig zag quilt  It's just a start. But the start was the hardest part to make myself do. I stared at the picture a long while. It's an on-point layout and the blocks are 2 1/2 inches unfinished.

I cut candy chains  in purple. I will need them some time, anyway.

I chose 3 - 4 1/2 inch squares for square play and made the 2 1/2 inch square borders. I didn't have many purple fabrics in my 4 1/2 inch bin. I will need these pieces eventually this year.

stash report July 26 , 2026

I cleaned up a spot of fabric drippings from a basket where I throw extras. I decided it will be the next scrap cutting project. It may take a while to finish the box.

I have all the chinking in place for a nice warm cabin but no door for access. That will be the next construction project.

I have made a little progress on my stars and stripes rug. I am using a smaller frame to carry to guild each week. I have to move it more often.

I dyed a new navy piece of wool to use as the background, and, I like it much better. My hubby wanted to hook the background and did a great job.

aqua scraps week 4

I can't believe it is the end of July already, and the color aqua will be a fading memory for the rainbow scrap challenge. There are many fabrics that could fit that category, and it has been lovely to pet them all.

I made rolling windmills in aqua.

I needed more aqua strip sets for my stashbuster quilt. I didn't need to check my bag of strips for them. I found enough laying around as I was cleaning up a bit. Not much of a surprise considering the state of my " studio"

I cut a few strip sets into rows.

I have restarted an older ufo kit from editya sitar. The fabrics are beautiful. The pattern is complex. I should have started 10 years ago. haha I worked on strip sets at Saturday open sew.

I have made a little progress on my stars and stripes rug. I am using a smaller frame to carry to guild each week. I have to move it more often.

All the stars are done. I tried the blue wool that came with kit. I decidided it is too thin and hard to work. I will search through my stash for a better grade wool.

aqua scraps week 3

Aqua is the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made some progress.

I made 3 square play blocks

16 patches with 2 inch squares

I made square dance blocks from the 16 patches

I made a few more sets for stashbuster. I suspect I will have to continue cutting for this project next year.

star baby quilt finish

yellow baby string quilt. is finished. When I decided to change my pattern for Blue skies, I had leftover yellow string blocks. This is the quilt that I made from those blocks. I was in Florida at the time that I was piecing, and didn't have border fabric with me. I found a men's shirt at a thrift store that I could cut for the border. I waited until I was home to quilt it. yellow is my favorite color which is why I was drawn to the pattern blue skies in the beginning.

46 x 54

I found the backing fabric in my home stash and used it for the binding as well.

stash report July 12 , 2026

I decided to take a bag of scraps with me to sew group. I was not in the mood to take my sewing machine. This bag was given to me by another quilter. Everything was a delightful mystery.

I cut my usual sizes, set aside smaller pieces to make 1 1/2 inch hsts, and  kept some larger pieces together that ere coordinates. In the end, it weighed nearly 2 pounds. I hade made 6 yards of useable fabric.
