I found tony hiding in a scrap bag. I don't remember which quilty buddy gave it to me. It has been hiding for some time... such an adventure.

week 2 black and gray scraps

I've been spending more of my quilty time organizing, plotting and planning. Why is it that cleaning actually makes bigger messes? Some of my 2026 rainbow scrap challenge projects are on vacation for the forseeable future. And since, I am using black this month, My blog posts are repetitive and, well, black.

I am still making crackers and jam blocks. This is a purchased pattern from qultville. I have found some quick and easy tricks to make these. I will try and share them soon for those who want to make this quilt.

tulip swirl is the 2026 leader /ender challenge project, also from quiltville. I have not found any quick and easy way to make these easier, yet. I prefer to cut the hsts with my accuquilt dies, but that takes two dies and the back and forth is making me a little crazy. I will figure something out, eventually. and get in the groove.

I need 6 more square dance. blocks to make a quilt. I used a layer cake for them, but have used all colors. I plan on visiting my solid fabrics for the extra colors I need. I have not run out of 2 inch squares in my drawer. I might never empty that drawer, that seems to refill at night while I am sleeping.

While I was digging through the mess at my sewing machine, I found this little box of bonus triangles that I have been missing. I knew it was here somewhere. Apparently, I am a thrower. I focus on the sewing and not the cleaning as I go. I admire those quilters that automatically clean and straighten as they go.

I need these small triangles to make 640- 1 1/2 inch hsts for ditch lilies.

week 1 black and gray scraps

It's time for a new color for the rainbow scrap challenge, so, I went digging in my 2 1/2 inch bag for small pieces that I could turn into tulip swirl blocks. I want to use black and gray this month. I tend to skip these colors in my rsc projects, so these scraps are buried in the deep recesses. But, I won't give up the fight.

I think for the new year, I will concentrate on finishing the rainbow scrap challenge unfinished quilts. I have plenty to keep me busy. I just like making blocks and don't really finish them. It's time to change that.

I only needed 2 more square play blocks to finish for the year. I still need to make the 2 1/2 inch squares frame.

I still like making crackers and jam blocks. It's amazing how many little scraps I am finding while trying to clean up my sewing area. I may get tired of the eventually.

It won't be a month of colorful pictures. so... 1 orange

I went to our Saturday open sew. These were the new bag of scraps I was gifted. I was hoping to find some black and gray. There was black Christmas, but, I don't think they will work for my new project- crackers and jam

We have a new team hosting our open sew, and they are really fun. Games and prizes and great snacks.

I have tried to add a few strips of wool every day, hoping that it will eventually help finish this wonderful rug. The Christmas tree is a fun diversion.

Here is where I will begin again to make progress on Christmas in new England rug. Maybe, this Christmas?

I have decided to switch to the other side and work left to right, to make sure the colors are used all through the rug. It's a really slow start, but, a start none the less.

week 4-purple scraps

Not much progress on the rainbow scrap challenge this week. I did make purple rolling windmills.

I did make more purple crackers and jam. I even trimmed them to size and depapered some.

I have a few more to finish up before the end of September.

stack and whack leaves is finished

I chose my older ( 2012) ufo, stack and whack leaves. quilt for the rainbow scrap challenge in August. I was able to finish it for September. The leaves were done and even trimmed when I opened the box. The box was full of fabric, and I used some for sashings and borders.

56x64= 15 yards

I am gathering short strips in black and gray for tulip swirl blocks. I had to dig to get the bag of black 2 1/2 inch strips. I don't use them very often in the rainbow scrap challenge.

week 3 purple scraps

My hubby had a hip replacement this week. Everything went well, but, we had some preparation we needed to do. Not much sewing going on here.

I made a few more purple crackers and jam.blocks.

It was time to turn my attention square dance. I made 16 patches with 2 inch squares, and added the purple hsts. I need 2 or 3 more to make the quilt, but I am used all the colors in the layer cake. I will need to scrounge around to finish.

During a cleaning moment, I discovered this crazy box of odds and ends. I don't remember why I started it. There are a lot of cut off hsts. It might be where I was collecting them for ditch lilies. I need 640

1 1/2 inch hsts. If I was thinking clearly, I would dump it all in a trash can....But, I still need 400 hsts for ditch lilies.

I am working on my last block for my applique project - across the wide missourri-

I am finished with the applique. I started treading through the assembly instructions. There will be 47 flying geese in my future.

There is a lot of fabric in the finishing kit, but not any labels.

I took a moment to indulge in a quick little hooking project. I saw the cutest pumpkin on a stick for a fall decoration. I have the back sewn on mr pumpkin. And his face is attached and stitched. I want a black witches hat for him.

week 2 purple scraps

I am pretty sure this is the last of making candy chains blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge.. I can start assembly of the top.

crackers and jam. paper pieced blocks are addictive. Each one is so cute. I have no idea how many I will want for a quilt. I think I will carry this into 2027.

My purple square play blocks are ready to join the pile. I have all the blocks I need to start assembly

The green flower is stitched to the hollow nine flimsy, and two more flowers are ready. Next time, I will do the applique on the border before adding it to the quilt. I do think I will need to cut more flowers.

If I find a suitable scrap, I am making tulip swirl blocks with them. I added a few more. They are 4 1/2 inch squares, so, I am sure I will need a gazillion of them.

scrappy two bits is finished

I have a finish of an older ufo. The stars were part of a group swap years ago. two bits was a pattern from 'quilting is more fun than housework' I used 1 1/2 , 2, and 2 1/2 inch strips. I wanted to use some of my odd low volume strips, and a little bit of color. I added it to my to do list in 2020 because I had a pile of swap blocks I wanted to use. In June, I used it as my light ufo for the rainbow scrap challenge. It was also on my 5 quilt list for 2026.

I trimmed some 1 1/2 inch hsts for my ditch lilies quilt project. I need 640. I sew little scrappy bits as I find them. So far, with this batch, I have 260 of them ready when I start making the blocks.

I am working on the last block which has 2 sections. Mr. Fishy is swimming happily. Beside it will be a rooster. I started looking at the pattern instructions for assembling the blocks. So far, I find them a little underwhelming.

I took a moment to indulge in a quick little hooking project. I saw the cutest pumpkin on a stick for a fall decoration. I need to hand stitch a back. I guess I still haven't decided what project to pick up and restart. This will be a fun diversion.
