One monthly goal and a finish

May is here and time to set my goals for One monthly Goal at elm Street quilts

I bought this elegant quilt kit a while ago from  a presenter to our guild, Lynn Schmitt Cibulka. The kit was chock full of fiber goodies, wool, velvet, sateen, brocade. I have been intimidated by it. It was costly and so different, that I was also afraid I would never actually make it. So my goal for it this month is to untie the ribbon, and look through it, and read the directions. And if that leads to something more so be it.

I want to finish double delight. It is ready for the final border. I didn't have any fabric in my crushingly overwhelming stash, so I needed to order it. I am waiting for it to arrive.

I also want to quilt and finish quiltville's  carolina christmas.

But I did finish all 180 of the little friendship stars I needed to make for my self and my swap partner.

project box decisions

I found a project box in my reorganiztion and decided I just wanted to finish these projects and be done with the whole box. I am afraid the word just has been my undoing many times. After finishing the sewing on hippie baby, I moved on to Twisted braid. This is from a jelly roll book that I have had for a long time. I had this wonderful set of jelly roll strips in red, white, and blue. And then it was put on the project shelf. I decided I wanted to make this quilt, I still like it, and everything I needed was in the box.

I spent one evening watching "When calls the heart" and had it cut. I think it is going back into the project box for another time. But, I moved it another step closer.

project #3 was a 1 1/2 in jelly roll and 2 yards of matching fabric. I have really tried to figure out what I had in mind, but, I can't. I did some research on the internet for a new exciting project that I could use, but nothing has impressed me. I think, mostly, because I have too many projects already. I still love the colors and fabrics, but I am sending this back into the fabric stash. Maybe someday.... but not now.

Meanwhile, I have a few more friendship stars finished

Stash report April 22, 2018

It was an exceptionally rewarding day at goodwill this week for fabric. It has been a long time since I have found anything remotely worth the trip. It was fun, but, it won't look good on my numbers for stash report. There was 6 yards of the top oldie but goodie fabric, 5 yards of the blue and 3 1/2 of shirting plaid.

There was 2 yards of homespun and, of course, Christmas. Altogether, there was 29 1/2 yards. I spent $15.00.

Stash report

Fabric Used this Week 1 1/2 yards
Fabric Used year to Date: 211 1/4 yards

Fabric Added this Week: 29 1/2 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 70 3/4 yards

Net Fabric for 2018: 140 1/2 yards used more than purchased.

I sewed at least 15 min 7 days this week. Yay, a few new projects.

The first set of border is done on Uncle Sam's hat, and I will sit and stitch on that this Sunday. I am looking forward to adding navy to the border.

There are a few more stars to the collection.

more hippie baby

I have been arranging blocks for hippie baby. And I am never very good at this part. I just keep moving things around and not satisfied. So, I just did it.

I think it is smaller than I envisioned. But the top is together and I am ready to find borders.

But, wait, I have an idea.... so much for a simple, quick finish.
A few more stars.

progress

Every morning I am making 2 of these friendship stars for a swap. I am having fun seeing each one as I iron it when they are finished. My little basket is getting empty. It looks like I may have to cut more background pieces.

I have a customer quilt to deliver.

I thought the fabrics were gorgeous. I used an allover paisley in red. It looks great.

finding the table

I have turned a corner on my Uncle Sam's Hat rug and started experimenting with the border.

I try to make at least one of these friendship stars each morning.

And I went from this mess

to this.

Now, if someone would just carry off the little piles and what nots that have accumulated on the cutting/storing table, I would be a happy girl. I still have a ways to go, but at least I can see lines. Which is your favorite size of rotary cutter? I had lost 3 of them in the chaos. I use both sizes.

road block

With my hubby home all the time, I have to find a new normal. We are getting to some of those things that have been bothering us for so long done. That is very good. But, I am not finding the time to really sew like I am used to yet. And then this happens to my cutting table ...

Oh my.
I am still trying to cut for 2 more Christmas quilts. I have rainbow scrap challenge blocks I need to keep going. and I am rug hooking. And every day I am making little friendship blocks for a swap.

I have come to an edge which is always a good sign of progress.
I am quilting this fun quilt for a customer. This is the quilt that started the whole swap thing. It is so fun to recognize scraps and fabrics.

green squared away

Happy Birthday to hubby - He's signing up for social security today - wow! We met when we were 16. Hard to believe that was so long ago.

I have sewn the triangles together to make the March squared away sampler for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made 3 blocks.

I have had fun sewing little friendship stars together. I am trying to make a set for my swap partner and a set for me, but I used up little scraps and may have had enough for only 1. Besides that, we are cleaning the dreaded basement. He does love to party for his birthday doesn't he?

cutting and sewing

I found the magazine/pattern for  Holiday Party and it is all boxed, labeled, and put in the project shelves. That is Christmas quilt #3. I am cutting for #4 Homespun holiday. I found it in Quilt magazine Nov/Dec 2013.

I had to try sewing the little friendship stars. They are 4 1/2 in unfinished, but they can be trimmed to smaller.
