one monthly goal

I am a little late setting my goals for July.

I really want to keep sewing my sea swept sashing blocks - I hope to finish them this month.

I am sneaking in one of my ufo quilts - Aunt Eliza's star -- on to the longarm. I really want to get it quilted this month.

I haven't been spending much time sewing lately. I need to make a list of the next steps needed on my works in progress, and then, I won't just stare at the mess and not know what to do. A list is much more motivating than a mess.

john wayne quilt

I have a finish, but, it's not my quilt. This is a customer quilt made for a John Wayne fan. The back is as cool as the front. I didn't have any cowboy designs. - not a lot of need here in the midwest. So, I did a little research about John Wayne, made a list of his movies, and wrote them with thread on the quilt. I did it free hand, so, I knew it would be wonky, so, I went wonky on purpose. I really like how it turned out.

the man who shot liberty valance

I added his stage name and his real name, and 10 movies. I hope they like it  I sure had fun doing it.

this and that

I am working on a customer quilt to pass the time. I really like her colors.

I have the border pieces done for frolic mystery quilt. I just have to get brave enough to cut/trim the edges to add the borders

And I have made more shoofly blocks. Working with tiny scraps has been therapeutic, but I also realize, I don't need any "real" fabric. I could make a million quilts with just tiny little scraps and never see the end of them.

stash report March 29, 2020

These were fabric purchases from the thrift store before covid -19. I was thrilled  to find a quilter's cast offs. There was about 9 1/2 yards.

Stash report

Fabric Used this month -nothing yet for March as I haven't finished a quilt
Fabric Used year to Date: 53.25 yards

Fabric Added this month: 9.5  yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 54.75 yards
net fabric: 1.5 yards bought more than used

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day

I have an old ufo on the frame and hope to have it quilted and bound for the end of the month as part of my one monthly goal.

For slow Sunday stitching, I am rug hooking a new snowman on my snowman rug. I have 3 sides of snowmen finished here. This one has a fancy hat.

rug finish

It's bad enough as a home body, with everything cancelled, I have no frame of reference.

I finished this little rug hooking wall hanging. It needed pressed and blocked. And I needed a little finish.

I used a piece of the background wool to make the back.

I finished the customer quilt I was working on last week and it was delivered.

and I am cutting scraps a little at a time. I seem to be wanting triangles.

what I'm working on today

What I'm working on is catching up on some customer quilts. They have waited far too long. Hubby is sleeping in the chair and the quilts are calling me.

I love scrappy quilters - they leave happy surprises in the quilt which makes me smile.

orca bay

This is finally happening. Orca Bay is on the long arm. After all the piecework, it is good to see it stretched out on the frame and looking pretty straight. But, it is the end of the quilting, that the fat hits the fan, when all the wonkyness might show itself.

and isn't the backing snazzy? yeehaw. I had it in my stash from a thrift store, sometime. It had 6 yards so, it was the perfect size and the colors are the same. Where else would a midwest girl use this fabric?

stash report December 30, 2018

I found a purple bundle at the thrift store. I can always use purple. It is one of the colors that I just don't have many in my stash.

I would be foolish to think that I would be able to avoid purchases all year.  I am just not sure what would be a reasonable goal. I really like fabric and especially scraps. To me, scraps are little presents of surprises. My friend and I were talking at Friday group - she says she will limit her purchases to just what she needs for finishing a project - and then her phone rang, and it was someone wanting get rid of scraps. She suggested bagging it and bringing it to the guild free table. We laughed at the irony of timing. We were silent for a few minutes and then I mentioned, I hadn't prepared to avoid that temptation. She said she was wondering what great stuff might be in the bags. Ha ha.
Maybe it's hopeless and we should just embrace our inner fabric hoarder. And I hope my Missouri star order comes before I have to count it next year.

stash report December 16, 2018

I have a small collection of batik fabrics with plans to make a quilt with them....someday.
I found these at a guild sale. I am usually drawn to the brighter colors, but will need these neutral colors in whatever I make for contrast and background.

One fish ...quilt

I have the word borders on the fish jar quilt. Winter photography is interesting? I am wondering if I need another border? It's a good size now, but bigger can be better.

I am working on the customer quilts that are Christmas presents. I think I am on track with finishing on time.

stash report December 9, 2018

More goodwill finds. I had been interested in this when it was a new "thing", but I thought the paintstiks were too expensive. I found them at goodwill and maybe get a chance to experiment with them before I forget I have them.  haha

I also found these packages of open gate template and pattern. Monique Dillard spoke to our guild one year and I really enjoyed her quilt trunk show. So I was glad to add these to my templates I may never use collection.

I am having a serious discussion with myself about goals for next year and limiting the amount of fabric that comes into this house. I do not need anymore....but....

I have a scalloped border to hand sew for a customer on this quilt for my slow stitching today. The quilt has been a challenge, but I love the rhythm of the stitching and it will be delightful.

a little wool music

Just a little music for my cleveland rug

I have a perplexing customer quilt. Her mother made this quilt many years ago and she wants it finished.

It is hand stitched together, but it is not very well made.
And the fabric is not good quality. She deserves to have it done, but it will be very challenging. I do like rescuing old quilts, so... I am not sure what to use for binding. To match the fabric will be hard.

roll roll fixed

As part of my quiltville mystery quilt challenge along side Jo's country junction string challenge, I am working on roll roll cotton boll. Last week, I had put the rows together creating two halves and there was an oops. It is fixed now, and the center is all in one piece.

I was able to add the inner border. There is a pieced outer border, and, generally, there is a bit of math to decide the width of the inner border, but, the pattern just gave directions for the cutting. I am hoping it will work with my piecing. If not there will be another oops post. I really like this quilt. It might be one of my favorites.

I also added the triangle border to my rainbow pineapple blossom quilt. This time I did the math to decide the width of the inner border and it worked. I want to add a white border still to the outside.

This was a fun customer quilt for a nurse. The fabric is so cute. She just wanted an all over stipple.

stash report June 3, 2018

We had a guild speaker from Indianapolis and she shared her quilting vision. Susan Sharp is a modern quilter and makes small quilts with intricate paper piecing. She has used some very big names in the quilting world to machine quilt her quilts. And that is what catches everybody's attention. And most of the questions from the guild centered around asking questions about the quilting. Sad, that her work is not the primary focus. Her blog is no hats in the house.

There were 96 pieces in the sparkle centers for this quilt.

I've started a new hooked rug that was a kit from W cushing.
The wool included is beautiful and the piece requires a variegated piece pulled as shading. It is a little overwhelming. But that will be my "stitching " for awhile.
