orange crumb stars

Most of my orange scraps are gone, but, I have strings and crumbs which I needed for crumb stars and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this month. I am using 4 1/2 inch squares of crumbs for the center and 2 1/2 inch HSTS for the star points. With the year almost over ( how did that happen), I will be figuring out what to do with the stars I have made this year.

It has gotten cold this fall. We need to clean out the garden. I was really sad to put long pants and socks on to wear.

crumb stars

I had fun digging in the scrap bag for aqua crumbs. I knew I wanted to make crumb stars this week and with the color of aqua. Aqua is the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I was able to make 9 centers and then, 9 blocks.

I found all of these crumbs in the crumb and string bins. I had cleaned them all into one place as we prepared for company. I was afraid, if I broke them out of hiding, a mess would ensue. But, I think I outsmarted it.

I am off to a retreat this weekend, and I had a disaster that I will have to tell about later. But, it is ok.

small piecing

I made it to our Friday  quilt group yesterday. I was trying to catch up with my sea swept blocks. I made some progress on the diamond part of the sashing.

The weather has been so nice. High seventies and sunshine. I really don't like when the cicadas make the sound of fall coming. The summer has passed so quickly.

I am still working with darks for the tiny houses and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

I did have 3 aqua ish strips for the psp 20/21 blocks

oops found these on the floor

I have tucked all the strings and crumbs away for company, but, it is time to find them again to make crumb stars. And, I would like to make aqua tiny houses. So much fun, so little time.

crumby stars

I am catching up the crumb star blocks I needed for June and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I made a few darkish tiny houses.

I am just now making the red exclamation points for May for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing.

I made a few this morning since I was so close

we have had rainy weather for a few days and the weeds are sooo happy.

one monthly goal

I am a little late setting my goals for July.

I really want to keep sewing my sea swept sashing blocks - I hope to finish them this month.

I am sneaking in one of my ufo quilts - Aunt Eliza's star -- on to the longarm. I really want to get it quilted this month.

I haven't been spending much time sewing lately. I need to make a list of the next steps needed on my works in progress, and then, I won't just stare at the mess and not know what to do. A list is much more motivating than a mess.

Eliza is a top

I am happy with the top of Aunt Eliza's stars. This was my one monthly goal for May. Which I didn't get ready on time. It turned out larger than I expected. 82x 92. My favorite part is the border. I am not sure where it came from, but, I know it is a vintage piece since it was 36 inches wide. And it is so cute.

It was so windy that I almost didn't catch a shot of it before it rolled itself into a ball.

It is time for this quilt to live in the "to be quilted" closet. It's embarrassing how many quilts live there.

red color blocks

This week, I worked on the16 patch blocks for the Debby Brown color blocks quilt alongI found this free quilt along with Debby Brown  from Alycia at quilty girl

I didn't have any red 2 1/2 inch squares already cut. So I strip sewed these using shorter pieces. I really have diminished my stash of 2 1/2 inch squares over the last 3 years with the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I used to have 7 velveeta boxes stuffed full. Now, I have 3 partially full.

I've used them in scraptastic stars, scrappy irish chain, shine, and cutting garden,

Right now, I am just accumulating the blocks. Once I have all the colors from the rsc, I will start planning the quilts.

red crumb stars

I made 10 crumb stars for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. May's color is red. After a few years of following along with the rainbow scrap challenge, I was surprised that there were very few small red scraps. I still have more than I need, but I have, apparently, weeded the smallest pieces out of the scraps. Even, the 2 1/2 inch strip bin was mostly long strips. And I have used all my 2 1/2 inch squares. It was a bit of a struggle to find the pieces for the crumb centers.

After 3 tries, I have successfully made a sourdough starter.... in a red bowl. I tried a few years ago with a pioneer starter. I really didn't like the smell of it, and, wasn't confident enough to follow through with it. All I have made with my new starter was banana bread.

more crumb stars

Over the weekend, I realized that I had made more crumb stars in other colors than in blue. I know blue is the scrap color I have the most, so why was I short on blue? Well, some had been scooped up in a cleaning job, and, had gone missing. And, I found a few more blue crumbs.....Now, I have 9 more blue crumb stars. The first blue ones are here

We have had a rainy weekend. Sometimes, in the Spring, a good rain makes all the flowers look brighter. Such a lovely time of year.

crumb stars

I have a 2 gallon zip lock bag of odds and ends and leftovers in blue, that I need to go through before I cut for my projects. waffle stamps were already cut, so, I could sew them for last week easily. I always enjoy an evening sorting and cutting scraps. Anything less than a fat quarter, I cut into my scrap user's sizes.

2 pound 5 ounces = 6 1/2 yards = $60.00

From chunks I cut 2 1/2 inch HSTS - ( half square triangles ) for my crumb stars. I made 6 crumb blocks so I needed 48 HSTS. I was lazy and used the same fabrics - not much variety.

I made the crumb centers from what I could find in the string/ crumb basket in blue. This time I found enough for 6. I am sure I will find more later when blue is called for again. These stars are a fun way to use the smallest pieces.

While I was looking for blue, I started a tray of other colors of crumbs for future crumb stars. I wish I had thought of this earlier.
