One monthly goal

I can't believe it is February already. We have been ill at our house for a spell. I am not feeling very perky. So, As I choose my one monthly goal, I need to keep it easy and still moves my quilting ahead. I decided I would add my rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for 2020 to the finished pile. I used this pattern row x row . I  started in Jan 2020 with the color of the month. I had the top ready to quilt november 2020. But I have a backlog of quilts that need quilting. My goal for February is to completely finish it.

I did count and decide what I wanted to do with my psp blocks. I have 67 which would be fine for a 7 x 9 layout, but, I am putting them  aside. They are officially a UFO, now

The new color for February scrap challenge is aqua/ teal.  Time to start cutting the scraps in those colors for my projects..... if I get a spurt of energy.

tiny orange scraps

I had one lonely aqua 16 patch color block from last month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

then, I worked on 4 psp 20 blocks in this month's color - orange. I am amazed at how many different oranges there are, but, I was also surprised how few oranges of any size, I have left in the scrap bins.

My Friday group has started making Boho heart by Jen Kingwell. I am doing it in rainbow colors. Part of the fun of a group project is seeing how different all of our hearts will be when finished. We are randomly picking the blocks, but this week's block was in the orange section for me.

small piecing

I made it to our Friday  quilt group yesterday. I was trying to catch up with my sea swept blocks. I made some progress on the diamond part of the sashing.

The weather has been so nice. High seventies and sunshine. I really don't like when the cicadas make the sound of fall coming. The summer has passed so quickly.

I am still working with darks for the tiny houses and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

I did have 3 aqua ish strips for the psp 20/21 blocks

oops found these on the floor

I have tucked all the strings and crumbs away for company, but, it is time to find them again to make crumb stars. And, I would like to make aqua tiny houses. So much fun, so little time.

this and that

I was hoping to get more sewing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this week, but, it didn't happen. I did have a brown psp 20/21 block finish. But, I haven't searched through scraps yet for more.

I must have cut another set of pink tiny houses. I found a stack of pieces in the box. I made these and ran out of parts for the rest.

I finished the quilting for this quilt for a friend. And put my Aunt Eliza's star on the frame.

I had a mamogram scare but it was nothing. phew.

a bit of red

It was easy to grab the 2 inch strip drawer and cut for tiny houses. I did decide to add other colors to the red. If there was a speck of red, anywhere, I cut it.

I am running low on the solids for psp 20/21. I need to take a count and see if I need other colors.

cheerful red

I hope to follow a plan for working the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this year.

1. grab color wire basket and sort

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. Red is in good shape, and still looks tidy.

3. make ongoing rsc blocks

These bits and pieces were just sitting on top of my table waiting to be put away. When I saw that we were using red for May and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I just sewed them together rather than putting them in drawers. But, then, from the looks of my table, Angela could have chosen any color, and I would have had something to make on the quick.

1 1/2 inch  strips and squares

2. decide ufo by color -prioritize as #1

red - Aunt Eliza star

This is a ufo from 2014 and our Christmas trip to Florida. I have the blocks made. I think I need an alternative block. I would like something chainy, but, I am not sure I want to go to the trouble. ( mojo is missing). I have all month.

blue stuff

After sorting through the 2 gallon zip lock bag of blue scraps and cutting into useable sizes for  the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I had these pieces in the bag that aren't really scraps. They are bigger than 1/4 yard. So, I just folded them and sent them to their homes on the shelves. And, I had the pleasure of an empty plastic bag...... Ready to refill at my leisure.

This week, I decided to build some tiny houses. They are still so fun. I have a million to go before I have a city um quilt.

And, I made the psp 20/21 blocks in blue. I have 40 postage stamp blocks and no idea how I want to put the together.

The medium blue is from a sheet that I used as a back at some point. I enjoy finding little fabric memories in the scraps.

waffling and blue

My blue scrap chunk basket is full, but, I have a 2 gallon zip lock bag of odds and ends and leftovers that I need to go through before I cut, hoping there is enough room in the basket for the new.

I had enough blue pieces already cut for the waffle stamp blocks. I did not need to cut anymore, so, I was able to get these sewn quickly for the start of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

It looks like I really need red, and a little orange for this quilt, and, maybe purple. I think I want to start sewing a few blocks of four together with the colors I have. It might save me from throwing the blocks in a box at the end of the year.

postage stamp blocks

I have some interesting greens this month for the psp 20/21 blocks and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I'm not sure the photos look as green as they are in person.

It doesn't look like I will have a finish for March from my green ufo list, but, I did move Christmas sparkle along to almost a top. I did decide to make and add 3 more blocks to the quilt. I haven't worked on the green brackets for full stop quilt that Angela is doing. And I didn't get the table runner quilted.

waffling and blue skies

I overdid the yellow waffle stamp blocks , but, that gets me to a larger number already done for the whole quilt. These are very easy to do and a bit addictive.

One of the Ufos I wanted to do for yellow at rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, was Bonnie Hunter blue skies from her book string fling. I made the string blocks during a string basket cleaning in 2016. I was string piecing anything in the book I might want to make while I was playing with strings. Last month, I assembled zucherwatte with pink. After reading that I would have to cut 2,376 HSTS and sew them together, I decided this would be one of the projects on my list that I would not do. That is hard for me. I like to at least believe I will finish what I start. But, I also know I have many great projects started and only so much time.

The big decision, then, do I repurpose the string blocks as is, or, throw them in the string block bucket. I may have to wait until a blue month to decide.

postage stamp fun

I hope to follow a plan for working on the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy this year.

1. grab color wire basket and sort

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. yellow is very tidy and nearly empty.  I have a few boxes of scraps stored by color elsewhere. I pulled the yellow out and emptied it into the wire basket. It was still not full. I need to keep my eye out for yellow to purchase. But, I am in no hurry.

2. decide ufo by color -prioritize as #1

yellow -black and yellow boxy stars - wiggle time snoopy baby quilt- Bonnie Hunter blue skies - Bonnie Hunter free pattern quilt called florabunda.

3. make ongoing rsc blocks

I was surprised how many solid yellow 1 1/2 inch strips I found this month for the psp 20 and 21. I have many short pieces that I sew to the solid and then cut into sets of 2. I had enough strips of some of the yellows to make two or three. The blocks this month were a little smaller than the others. I am not sure what I did differently.

My boxy star quilt has the main top all together. I need to add borders and quilt it.

making more blocks

I have some blocks I have been working on. Other than that, I am still in a decision phase of finishing my February projects. And I need to cut some yellow scraps.

easy breezy

I think I have decided to add a border to my boxy stars quilt - Bonnie Hunter free pattern. I think it will work with a fabric I had in my stash.

to do: work with tiny pieces

I have been working with tiny 1 1/2 inch squares that are sitting next to my sewing machine. I collect them, until, I think I can make either waffle stamp blocks  or postage stamp psp20/21. I am always amazed at how many are in the stack. The stack of squares doesn't look like much, but it moves 2 quilts along. I have the solid pieces already cut and waiting in a drawer nearby.

pink revisited

I have two postage stamp blocks - psp20 - my goal is 5 new every month this year. It's hard to tell, but these are 2 different pinks. I bought a honey bun especially for making these blocks, but, it has disappeared. So, I will be scrounging through my limited stash of solids. No problem. Maybe, if I pretend I am not interested in finding it, it will show up again. LOL

tiny houses

I made the tiny houses from 2 inch strip bin. I look for the shortest strip and cut it 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/2 inches, hopefully, until I use it all.

As I am making postage stamp blocks, I am playing around with these cute little waffle stamps blocks. They are trimmed to 5 1/2 and take 10 - 1 1 /2 inch squares. I found them to be very fun and addictive.

I cut 10 sets of pink for the waffle stamp blocks and started sewing them. I decided I would use small 1 1/2 inch pieces to strip piece sets of 5 for the centers of the block and clean out the drawer. I am glad I cut pink. After I added these to the box, I realized I hadn't cut any pink in my marathon cutting session. And pink will be so pretty in a scrappy quilt.

1. grab color wire basket and sort - DONE

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. Pink is very tidy and full.

2. decide ufo by color -prioritize as #1 - pillowcases are DONE and I have the flannel baby quilts ready to sew

pink -2 love pillowcases, 2 baby flannel quilts, zuckerwaite ( any progress is progress)

3. make ongoing rsc blocks - DONE  I could use a couple more psp20 blocks

4. cut/use 2 1/2 in strips in color

wonky stars with crumb centers ?     purple churndash ?     nearly lemoyne hunter ?     coins ?

    rectangles ?

5. Make or finish a table topper for the challenge with Joy of Joyful quilting

6. participate with the full stop quilt that Angela is doing - it is cut but note sewn

I am sewing here and there on my current scrap projects, hoping to make some more progress before the end of the year. Can you believe we are nearly there? What a year.

stash buster and easy breezy

Friday group met, and, I finished all the blocks for country roads. It's time to decide if I want to put it in the ufo closet, or, dream up a layout, and, keep going. Today, I have a sew day, too. I plan on working on my snoopy wiggle quilt and grassy creek mystery quilt clue number 2.
