to do: rug border 1

I went to a drive through baby shower Saturday. Isn't that a hoot. This sweet lady and her husband have tried for 10 years to have a baby, and thanks to the pandemic ( not really) , they are having a baby girl in December I am so happy for them. We waited 5 long years for our first little treasure and, then, our second. I hated everyone's encouraging words of "just relax" but, in the end...... I wish I had.

I have had a long time rug hooking ufo project. It seems most of the year, without my guild meetings, I have been a slacker in my rug hooking. It was a big rug, but, still....

the center is complete now

I finished the center of my rug here. Now, it is time to get back into the finishing mood, and, work on this cute rug in time for the snow to fly.
I am ready for the rug border on my snowman rug. My quilting has certainly influenced my rug. I want a noticeable "binding" on the outside. I needed to cut the strips, and, join them on the bias. - just like quilting. Unlike quilting, I had to sew the "binding" to the linen before I hook the border. It is impossible to get the sewing machine to sew it close enough, after the hooking is complete. This way, I can hook right to the very edge of the wool fabric.

I also decided to make the final border shorter and just a simple plain border, instead of the pattern's swirls and stars. I just want to move this along and have the focus be the cute snowmen.

stash report: September 27, 2020

I can't believe it is the end of September already. Besides having too much fabric, it's time to see what my stash report would be.

I was very fortunate to receive a gift of fabric from someone cleaning their closets. It was a magical bundle of fun.

stash report: September, 6, 2020

I bought this fabric from quilted twins online. I needed to enhance my orange and yellow stash. I like quilted twins 1/2 yard bundles. I can get an assortment and it is good quality. Unfortunately, their fabric knows how to jump into the cart, so you have to be careful.

stash report August 16, 2020

I found a box with fat quarter bundles that had been hiding under some scraps. I bought these before bluprint went out of business. I miss their coupon sales.

I was gifted a sack of fabrics yesterday, that I need to go through, otherwise, I have not acquired any new fabric from fabric stores in a while. I may not have any more room left for acquiring now that I have had isolation time to organize a bit.

Stash report August 2020

Fabric Used this week: 27 1/2 yards - I finished jamestown landing
Fabric Used year to Date: 246 .75 yards

Fabric Added this week: 10 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 107.75 yards
net fabric: 139 yards used more than bought

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day - I have been sewing rainbow projects

I know it is a different form of "stitching", I have a little more of the center, heading to the right, of my snowman rug, hooked. And, I will be doing more of the same for slow Sunday stitching

stash report July 19, 2020

Before Bluprint closed, I bought a mystery fat quarter bundle on sale. I hadn't opened it, until just recently. I can't say I would have picked up these fat quarters, if, I were in a store, But, I am glad I didn't have to go to a store. These will be fun when I need to play with fabric.

Stash report  July 2020

Fabric Used this week: 27 yards - I finished square dance
Fabric Used year to Date: 219.25 yards

Fabric Added this week: 5 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 97.75 yards
net fabric: 121.5 yards used more than bought

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day - I am plugging away at Jamestown landing

I am still working on my snowman rug background. It is a large rug, so, it will just take time. I enjoy hooking the background. It is the mindless chain piecing of the rug making project.

I am trying to make swirls and unexpected lines to add texture and interest.

stash report July 5, 2020

Our guild was gifted fabric from an estate. There were several tables, and we could social distance and take what we wanted. I wanted to add variety to my neutral stash, so I came home with this lovely pile of goodies. It didn't look like much in the overall amount of the fabric that I could have taken home, but, there was still a little over 12 yards in my stack.

Stash report  2020

Fabric Used this week: 15 yards -unicorn quilt
Fabric Used year to Date: 192.25 yards

Fabric Added this week: 12 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 92.75 yards
net fabric: 99.5 yards used more than bought

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day - we lost power, but, I could still treadle - yep

I finished the snowmen in my rug (here), and, it is time to fill in the background. I decided on just a plain background of dark sky and a single star. I spent some time blending blues and cutting strips. It was delightful to start the star. I will work on this on my Slow Sunday stitching.

partial finishes

I am now on the injured list with a finger. I was slicing onions, and added a piece of my left ring finger. It will be awhile before it heals. Meanwhile, I learn just how much I use my finger. haha

I have milestone finishes to share today. I finished all the snowmen in my my rug hooking rug. Now, I can begin the center background. The center portion measures 27 x 38. If I do the border as it is drawn, it will be 35 x 42. I use wool strips, and it is getting heavy. I started it here. I think I will add a star in the center and do a dark blue sky. I have enough navy wool to do it, already. I will want to use different ( scrappy) wool for the background, and mottle some for it, too.

I have a row of the old world mystery finished. It is set on point, so I did the longest row from the center. It helps me to have that out of the way as I work on other rows.

Ordering fabric on the internet is toooo easy. I think these came from green fairy to live at my house. My favorite precut is actually the honey bun. I can cut my own jelly rolls, but I am not fond of cutting 1 1/2 inch strips, so if they do it for me, I am a happy girl. And I really like the mini charms - they are sew cute.

Stash report  2020

Fabric Used this month: 28 yards
Fabric Used year to Date: 177.25 yards

Fabric Added this month: 6 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 80.75 yards
net fabric: 96.5 yards used more than bought

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day -I'm trying to quilt more of my ufos

This is the very last snowman on my rug hooking project. Next, I will need to hook the center/background in my slow Sunday and evening time. I can't believe the snowman are done. It seems like forever ago, I started this. It has helped that I designate Sunday to work on it. And then, it motivates me the rest of the week to add to it. Here is a picture of the whole rug .

more cleaning

To the left of my accuquilt, is a little dresser. And, when I cut for a project, I want to cut for the project, and not fold and put away. I have a bad habit of adding the leftover fabric and pieces that need to be dealt with on the table, until it becomes a mountain.

Big pieces make a big difference in cleaning the spot. I found shirt pieces and frolic mystery fabrics and a scrap basket for odds and ends. I found orphan blocks. The white scraps are from cutting triangles for unity mystery quilt. I end up making a spiderweb of scraps. There are many that are too small, and I throw away, but, If I can find any big enough, they get cut into sizes or are thrown into the crumb bin.

I was able to get these from the webbie pieces

And all better ... for a minute.

I finished the last snowman last night for my rug hooking. I am making a rug using wool strips cut 1/4 inch. Here is a picture of the whole rug. I'm pretty excited to have gotten this far. I have neglected it for some time. Now, it's time to start the background, which will require a lot of cutting, but no real brain work or decisions.

stash report May 31, 2020

I added this beautiful fat quarter bundle to my stash with a 60% off coupon at bluprint. I thought the colors were rich, and, I always like florals. I don't have a plan for it. I just wanted to pet it.

stash report May 17, 2020

I have uncovered another bag of goodwill fabric from before isolation. According to the look of the room I am organizing, I could find many more. It's a blessing that goodwill is closed. Hopefully, I have lost the habit. that's funny. How could I pass these goodies, if given the chance. However, I do like having less fabric to organize.

This time I have finished birch trees quilt

3 cozies

stash report April 26, 2020

I have been digging through bags of fabric and scraps trying to organize a little bit. It seems I have a little more time on my hands. I discovered this bag of fabric from a trip to goodwill from a time long gone. I think it must have been just before my hubby's surgery. I don't usually find this much at one time. Someone must have been cleaning, too.

It's time to confess and add it to the numbers. But, I have finished 3 quilts since last report.
