As part of my rainbow scrap challenge goals for 2020, I bought a new pattern row x row. I worked on each color through the year. By the end of the year, I had all the rows sewn. I had the top ready in November of 2020. I really like how bright and happy it turned out finished.

Next year, 2021, I want to work on my swap houses block quilt. Four of my quilting friends and I swapped little 4 1/2 inch houses in 2015
My friend, and one of the swap partners, suggested we bring them to the Saturday sew in, and, at least, take a look at them. Maybe, by doing that, our heads might start percolating ideas for the quilt. It did mine. I knew I wanted to have trees in the mix, so I tried a few and was hooked. They are busy, the houses are busy, so I will need a sashing, I think.

One comment we both made, was how we had forgotten just how cute the houses were. I am looking forward to making that quilt next year.

Star gazing is a Bonnie Hunter pattern in her book scraps and shirt tails. This is finish number 27 for the year for me. Many of the scraps for this quilt are upcycled shirts. I cut it out in 2014. It has been a top since 2017 after a back and forth visit to the ufo closet. It's a big quilt 82 x 82 and used 22 yards of fabric. I made mine one row bigger across.
I did a free form pattern on the longarm. I used a sheet from the thrift store for the back, and black binding. I used a machine to attach the binding.
I finished my one monthly goal for December. The quick finish was why I chose this project for the goal. I felt a chance at success and took it. I have worked on this most of the year, off and on. I made the blocks in January at a retreat. I made the top at another retreat on Nov 18.

It's December already. We had a few snow drops, yesterday, as it threatens to be winter. I made it to the gym three times last week, and, I went yesterday. So far, no problems. I know it is time to set new goals for the month for my quilting. I still feel a little sluggish from the change of time zones. So, I think I will keep it simple and plan on finishing a quilt that is ready to be quilted. If I get more done than that ...yippee.

I had a jelly roll of flannel, that, I have moved from place to place, until, I was tired of it. I decided I would just use the treadle at night to do a baby quilt with it. It wasn't supposed to be an official project. I was just sewing the strips together. But, it was across the couch for awhile, until, I was tired of it. The only way I could put it away, was to get it ready for quilting. geesh

My goal for November and the one monthly goal:
1. quilt big easy Christmas - I don't have a start date for this one, it was a class at a quilt store that has been closed a long time. I was in love with the Christmas fabric. One of the owners had made a quilt with the fabric and offered the class. I have the back pieced and the binding made.
I was fortunate enough to complete the quilt. It makes a nice lap quilt. And I love the fabrics. My notes say the pattern is in a book called bloom creek.

We had a nice Thanksgiving with turkey ( small) and some of the fixins. We did a zoom call with 4 out of 5 children and some of our Grandchildren. It was so good to see them, and hear their voices. I didn't realize how much I miss hearing their voices or their laughs, until I hear them again.

One of our guild members is a site manager for Indiana Wesleyan University at Kokomo. She hosts a "stay in your own bed" retreat a couple times a year to benefit IWU scholarship fund. We have a huge room, our own table, a huge cutting table, ironing boards, snacks, and fun companionship. We can even leave our machines overnight. We couldn't have more than 25 in our retreat due to covid, but, with the uptick in cases, we only had 14.

I opened another project box thinking it would be an easy decision. This quilt kit was a Joann fabrics block of the month called peaceful paisley from 2013. It was not an easy decision. All the Joann kits come with precut pieces and instructions. I like that, sometimes, as an easy piecing project when other projects become stressful. I found a complete set, and the setting kit, and the precut binding in the box. But, I also found several other block kits.

I took this project box to Friday quilt group so that I could spread it out, and, see what I had. I decided to trade some of the hand applique blocks for pieced ones in the original kit. I plan to finish it and, then, decide about the rest. I am not sure I want to invest the time for an additional donation quilt. I did piece one more block at our meeting. I will take it today, and, play around some more, and, see if I can make a more concrete decision.

I began this project as a finish with one missing inner sashing border. I fixed that by taking the other border off and adding 2 new ones in their place. I added an outer border, and then, the quilting began.
But, then, I had some kind of crud that was not covid - 19 ( negative test). It sat for at least a week.
I finally finished it. This is a free pattern at quiltville. I had this scrappy project in a blog post here in 2018 and blocks here.

I used a flannel wide backing for the back, and, did swirls for the quilting. I gathered red scraps for a scrappy binding. I am thinking I will donate this to the veteran's home here in town, as soon as, I find out any rules.

October has arrived and so has chilly weather. It's time to set my goals for the month. I want to quilt 3 quilt tops that have been waiting a long time.

3. finish traffic jam - I started this at a retreat in early January 2020. It was supposed to be a quick and easy donation quilt. But, I didn't pick it up again after the retreat.

But, first, I plan on finishing this older ufo Aunt mary's double Irish chain. I have committed to finishing this before anything else. It's small and needs borders. These projects will also help with my phd2020
Last week was a workshop with our quilt guild. Our resident quilt queen had agreed to teach her 2 nd last time 4 patch posey class. I needed to find the two I had already started, to take and finish at the workshop. I, certainly, did not need to start another one with the class, but, it was a committed time to work on finishing. I went through every ufo bucket twice and no luck finding it. I gave it one more try Friday night, and found the bucket. All my buckets are labeled, why was it so hard to find "the" bucket? - too many buckets.
The black floral was Sharon's 1st last time to teach the class in 2016.
This is a zigzag quilt that uses 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch pieces. I think I have 49 blocks. I bet there is enough of the blocks for a baby donation quilt- undecided.
This was a veggie jar quilt kit, that I thought was already made into jars, but, no. I will offer this to friends first.
These are the string blocks for Bonnie Hunter's blue skies quilt from her book string fling. I definitely plan on finishing this someday. It goes back into the project box.
I have 2 of these panels that I had hoped to make into donation quilts. Asking friends if they want to make a donation quilt from these panels.
I had cut for a book quilt for my daughter who has always been a bookworm. I do want to do this. Another rainbow scrap challenge by color and month.
And, finally, this project was a kit I bought and spent more money than I should have on it, and, it is all pieced. I just need to decide how to finish it. It is smaller than I like, so it stalled. I will finish this and not work on anything else until I do. No cutting, no piecing, no other quilting fun, until I have this finished. Let's see if I can do it. This will part of my one monthly goal and phd 20
