Snowball quilt finish

Snowball blocks quilt is finished. I made the first block in 2021, when I found this at Suzies-scraps.com, scrappy snowballs.  it uses 29 scrappy 2 inch squares in each block plus the sashings.

I added it to my 5 quilt project in June this year. It was just the scrappy project that I enjoy. I cut my scraps down to useable sizes. I can just open a drawer, and the parts are ready to piece into a quilt. The piecing is quick and easy. Each quilt is a wonderful surprise.

5 quilt September 5, 2025

last report August 1, 2025

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

There is not much change on this report, but, it still helps me keep on track.

I finished 2  ufos in August- 10 th for the year

spiderweb is finished

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them:

scrappy snowball   -2 inch scrap block. is a top and ready for quilting.

hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border -Which I intend to applique. I need more flowers cut in a variety of colors. I think I am about ready to do that.

holy toledo - The top is ready for pieced borders

chunky churndash  is ready for quilting

My august PHD report

scrap cutting

I have added another goal to the 5 quilts project. I want to take one day a month and cut scraps. I will have plenty to choose from since I really didn't cut any for 2024, and the bags of uncut scraps are piling up, all over the fabric room. The bag weighed 1 pound 8 ounces. When I was done, the parts weighed 9 ounces = 1 1/2 yards of useable fabric. I still have a bit left to cut. For the year, the total is 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.

quilts to be quilted:

1. wedding ring I have had this ready for a few years, but, I am afraid to quilt it myself. I want it to be special and I don't do special. So I will work to talk my self into it..... some day

2. snowball

3. chunky churndash

Looking forward to September

spider web quilt is finished

I restarted this older ufo as part of the rainbow scrap challengeHere is my first post about this quilt in 2016. I am fascinated by the spiderweb block, and full disclosure, I have several started and not finished. I was near the finish during the color orange month, and, wanted to continue to a finish. I sewed all the blocks and rows on my antique singer treadle. I finished the assembly, borders, quilted, and binding with electric machines. I am a big fan of orange. I think the orange and black is striking. I found the perfect border fabric hiding in my stash. I guess it pays to keep everything.

5 quilt August 1, 2025

last report June 27, 2025

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

There is not much change on this report, but, it still helps me keep track.

I finished 1  ufo in July - 8 th for the year

Strip twist jelly roll surprise is finished

60 x 68

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them:

scrappy twirl - I have prepared the border and need to add it to the top. As I was digging through project boxes looking for a quilt, I discovered an entire batch of cut pieces for scrappy twirl. That changes everything. I kept wondering why the near -finished top was so small. Apparently, I cut most of the quilt and put it in a box. But, I needed more, so, I cut a smaller batch, and put them in a different box. I have been making lists of my options to finish, and I am exhausted with the whole project. I am retiring this quilt for another day.

scrappy snowballs  -2 inch scrap block. It was my one monthly goal for June to have a top. It didn't get done. I have all the rows made, and ready to assemble. These are 2 out of 4 blocks per row. I will make it my one monthly goal for August to have a top.

hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border -Which I intend to applique. I need more flowers cut in a variety of colors. I think I am about ready to do that.

holy toledo - I have all the blocks made, and then, sewn into 4sies. Now, it is time for rows.

orange spiderweb it is quilted and ready for binding.

I missed 2  Fridays  in July for open sew, so, I did not cut any scraps for July

zipper is finished

zipper blocks is a finished quilt. I started this quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge in 2022. I was able to use many of my solid scraps in this fun and easy scrap quilt. I saw it on sane, crazy crumby quilts, and, she referred to Klein meisje quilts. At the end of the year, I put it away. In 2025, as part of my 5 quilt project, I decided to finish it. I started piecing the blocks into twosies and then, foursies.  In May, I began making rows

fancy fox finish

Fancy fox is finished. I began this quilt in 2016 with my daughter during her visit home. This is an Elizabeth Hartman pattern. At the time I was also working on the fancy forest quilt. This year I pulled it from the deep ufo closet to add it to my 5 quilt project. All the blocks were already made, and, I needed to assemble the top and quilt it. I do adore the little foxes made from recycled shirts. This is also my one monthly goal for May.  Finishing an older UFo is such an unexpected pleasure. It has a history, a promise, and a surprise.

kaleidoscope finish

I am so excited to have kaleidoscope finished. I took a guild workshop in 2016 with Mary Huey. It was a great class and I was really looking forward to finishing this quilt. It was in the UFo closet until 2024, when it returned as part of my  5 quilt project. It was lost for a minute, and I had to figure out the border. I hope I can make another one someday, as I really like the circle illusion it creates.

74 x74 = 16 yards

I made a scrappy binding with leftover fabrics from the quilt. And I still have enough for another quilt. A new quilt isn't on the horizon, but I would like to put the fabric away together for another adventure.

peppermint candy finish for April

I found this in quiltmaker magazine and cut it out, in 2018, while I was cleaning up Christmas fabrics. That is all the farther I got, before it landed in the ufo closet. I made the blocks while I was away for the winter this year, with my trusty featherweight. Back home again, I changed the pattern and chose an on- point layout to finish it. It was part of my 5 quilt list and my one monthly goal to finish it in April.

quilt show entries

Today is our guild quilt show. We have our show every other year. These are the four I decided to show. We were only allowed 3, but, they didn't get enough, so they asked us to bring 4. Many of our older members don't quilt much anymore.

snow days has a lot of embroidery in the light color in the center. It has a sentimental story. Pictures do not do it justice.

lozenges is a Bonnie Hunter project that I swapped blocks with quilting buddies and my daughter.

strip tease Is a quilt that both my quilting friend Linda and I both made our own versions. We worked on them at the same time. She beat me on finishing, but I quilted hers. She wanted both quilts hanging together at the show.

midnight flight is a Bonnie Hunter quilt from her book More adventures with leaders and enders.

Tiny Tuesday sampler finish

I decided to make tiny Tuesday quilt my one monthly goal for March. It was part of the 5 quilt project last year. I didn't get it done in 2024, so I added it to this year's ufo projects. This was a QAL with the rainbow scrap challenge in 2019. It was so much fun to make the the blocks each week and use up the scraps at the same time. The blocks were designed by the academic quilter. After the blocks were done, those participating were on their own for how to finish it. I used a few orphan blocks to make it a little bigger and to fill out the rows. I used a scrappy white with pink rosebuds for the backing and the background fabric for the binding.

new finish

This older ufo from 2014 is finished. I have avoided typing the name, because, when I do I get all kinds of hits from robots LOL So, I left the picture of the pattern, and you will see why. I hope this works better. This a 5 quilt project finish.

72 x 72  I believe I cut the pieces in 2014 and sewed quadrant blocks in 2021. It looks like All the blocks are ready for assembly.

midnight flight finish

Midnight flight is finished. I began piecing the pieces in 2017.   As part of my 5 quilt project, I started making the blocks from the pieced units in September 2024. It was my one monthly goal for December to finish it. This was huge project. But it is beautiful in person. It was huge now but the cutting  and piecing the first units in 2016 and 2017, it was big as well. Sometimes, I forget to be grateful for the past me for getting the tedious parts done. It is also my 41st finish for 2024 and the last finish for the year. I will be excited to start on 2025 ufos that I want to finish. I plan to stick to my 5 quilt project again in 2025. It seems to be working for me.
