Snowball quilt finish

Snowball blocks quilt is finished. I made the first block in 2021, when I found this at Suzies-scraps.com, scrappy snowballs.  it uses 29 scrappy 2 inch squares in each block plus the sashings.

I added it to my 5 quilt project in June this year. It was just the scrappy project that I enjoy. I cut my scraps down to useable sizes. I can just open a drawer, and the parts are ready to piece into a quilt. The piecing is quick and easy. Each quilt is a wonderful surprise.

54 x 66 = 12 yards

snow ball border and one monthly goal

My one monthly goal was to finish the top for my snowball blocks. I have done that, with just days to spare. I had three choices for the border. I took a consensus at my Friday group. We all picked one that I thought was perfect, until, I added the inner border. Then, all of us agreed on a different choice. I am glad we did. It's good to have quilting buddies to help with the decision. Next month, I should be able to finish it, and take it off the ufo list.

snow ball top

I have the snowball blocks rows sewn together, and the inner border decided and finished. I have a few candidates for an outer border My one monthly goal is to have the top done and ready for quilting by the end of the month. It's a lap size, so it might still happen.

snowball sashing

I went to Friday sew group and worked on making the horizontal sashings for snowball blocks. I needed 31 squares for 4 rows. The time went quickly with friends. I like how scrappy it is.

snow ball rows

I have all the rows made for snowball blocks quilt. Each horizontal sashing row will need 32- 2 inch  blocks times 4. I am sure I have that many. This is my one monthly goal for August to have a top. It is hard to believe summer is ending, already. The temperature is lovely. I want to get more walks in before it is too cold.

snow ball 2sies

I have built enough sashings to join 2 blocks together for all 5 rows of snowball blocks. I am on my second bag of 2 inch squares. I am enjoying the surprise of how they look when I finish each 2 sie. I have a somewhat random technique for choosing the 2 inch squares together. When I reach for a square, my head says I don't like that one, so I choose another. I do that for about 2 or 3 choices. And, then, my head says it's time for an ugly one. In the end, it really doesn't matter. The overall look is fun and scrappy.

snowball blocks

I had an open sew on Saturday. I worked to finish my scrappy snowballs by the end of the month. I had made this top as my one monthly goal for June. I had thought I had finished the snowball blocks, but, when I counted, I was short. I did finish all the big blocks. I wanted 20 for a 4x5 setting. It is the 30th and I still need to make sashings. It is close, Hopefully, next month.

from a big bag, these were the only 2 inch squares left.

snowball progress

I made progress on my snowball quilt. I thought I had snowballed all the corners on all the charm squares. Hooray.

But, as I sewed them together in twosies, I could tell that I had missed a batch, somewhere. Bummer. It's a good thing I have enjoyed making these. The remaining, pesky little squares were hiding in the pile of 2 inch squares. They will be called to task. Aren't they cute? gotta love a scrappy quilt.

snowball and one monthly goal

I have restarted an older ufo for my 5 quilt project. This is a scrappy snowball quilt from 2020.      I used this pattern from suzies scraps       I had all the squares in a bag and all the centers cut. I also had 2 blocks sewn. It looks like it will take for ever, but it uses 29 scrappy 2 inch squares per block. Finishing the top is my June one monthly goal.
