rainbow finish

As my first finish along finish for the 4th quarter, I have finished last year's rainbow scrap challenge quilt.
All it needed was quilting and binding.

I think it looks great as a rainbow quilt. It was much larger than expected. 72 x 82 At the same time I worked on the block in the color of the month, I made the hsts in that color.

The backing was a large piece of stash fabric with 2 inch polka dots all over. very cute

My finish along list is here

a few challenges

Today is part of the double wedding ring challenge at Jo's country junction. I am using a different ruler and I am still not sure if I will like the larger size. I plan today to sit and cut the smaller pieces, but I did cut 9 of the center pieces. That is all I have done for this new project. I blogged about it last week

I found a large piece of fabric at goodwill and instantly thought it would be a great backing for my rainbow quilt that is ready for the quilting. This is part of the rainbow scrap challenge.

I have also prepared the binding. It is now in line for the quilting. I may or may not move it ahead of the others. hmmmm

My Friday group is also starting a new challenge, a Jen Kingwell pattern- drops of jupiter. It looks to be time consuming. I think I will use recycled shirts for this and maybe florals. The template set has arrived and I need to sit and cut this as well.

I guess I will be staying busy. So many wishes so little time.

roll roll fixed

As part of my quiltville mystery quilt challenge along side Jo's country junction string challenge, I am working on roll roll cotton boll. Last week, I had put the rows together creating two halves and there was an oops. It is fixed now, and the center is all in one piece.

I was able to add the inner border. There is a pieced outer border, and, generally, there is a bit of math to decide the width of the inner border, but, the pattern just gave directions for the cutting. I am hoping it will work with my piecing. If not there will be another oops post. I really like this quilt. It might be one of my favorites.

I also added the triangle border to my rainbow pineapple blossom quilt. This time I did the math to decide the width of the inner border and it worked. I want to add a white border still to the outside.

This was a fun customer quilt for a nurse. The fabric is so cute. She just wanted an all over stipple.

goals for the quarter

I have some goals that I haven't really set a time limit, and I think that would make it easier to accomplish. I am joining the third quarter goals to become more accountable, and a quarter goal seems just right for these projects, since I am working them in around my monthly goals. She can quilt is hosting a finish along  that will help motivate me.

I finished the hooking on the victoria ann rug, and I really hate the whole finishing thing. I have 8 hooked pieces that I just don't finish for that reason.

1. My sewing machine is straight stitch only, so I need to dig out a zigzag machine and zigzag the edges an inch from the hooking and trim.
2. roll the edge around a cord and baste into place.
3. decide on a yarn -or dye it if I can't find it.
4. hand sew the yarn around the edges
5. clean and press
6. stand back and admire

I am trying to finish all the quiltville mystery quilts as part of a challenge at Jo's country junction. I am working on Roll roll cotton boll. I have all the rows pieced.

1. press
2. begin assembling rows with an on point setting. Press
3. measure and cut, sew inner border
4. measure and cut, sew outer border
5. prepare for quilting
maybe quilt and bind

I have last year's rainbow scrap challenge quilt that no longer falls into the goals for this year's challenge, but I still want to finish it before it falls off the radar and into the black hole.

1. piece the HST border, press
2. measure and cut the inner border
3. measure and cut the HST border
4. decide about any other border
5. prepare for quilting
maybe quilt and bind.

And Jo's country junction is hosting a double wedding ring QAL that I really want to join, but, can I?

We've got soul

With the first Saturday so close to the first of June, I was not expecting to get any rainbow scrap challenge sewing done. But, I was able to find a few turquoise 2 1/2 in strips and get started. I have even less of this color than pink from last month.

I have a soul searching block ready.

I had time at Friday group to start assembly of last years rainbow quilt -pineapple blossom quilt.
The center is together. I need to begin the borders.

pineapple blossom orange

Last month's color for rainbow scrap challenge was not a color I needed for my two ongoing rainbow quilts, so it was good to get them out again and work on them.
Ready for the final round on the pineapple blossoms - quiltville

I am making rows of 5 so the orange row is ready to assemble

There was a little purple going on in the sewing room this week too.

2 sides of the quiltville leader/ender challenge are attached. The bucket of hourglass units is nearly empty. So there is an end to this quilt. The plan didn't include borders, which will seem odd, but appreciated.

For string Saturday, I am making bigger shirt blocks for sashing I hope to need next month for my one monthly goal. I have to really dig in the string bucket to find shirt pieces. hmm where have they gone?

pineapple blossoms rows

Pineapple blossom quilt ( bonnie hunter pattern)

I've spent a little time putting these rows together. I need orange and then I can finish. All of these blocks were made in the month of that particular color. This month is cream or mixed backgrounds for the rainbow scrap challenge. This quilt has mostly white on white backgrounds.

My one monthly goal ( snow days) has  a mixed neutral background, and I hope a light look to it. This month color gives me the perfect opportunity to play with it.

I hope to work on string piecing today. It's not like a have a lot of string scraps or anything.

happy strings

The rainbow scrap challenge is blue for July and I have put my pineapple blossom quilt row together. It will be the second row from the bottom.

I have all the four patches finished for the first border on the center medallion for Mill Girls.

For String Saturday, I have pulled this project out to see if I can make a little progress.  The yellows are a little darker than they look to me on the monitor.  Yellow is my happy color. I am using 1 1/2 in honey bun called Charlevoux by Moda. I thought it would make it easier to have the precut strips, but I don't like that they are all the same. I used the spider web papers and template from missourri star quilt company. The template works on charm squares. I bought a couple of bella solid charm packs for the kite at the center.

I have many of them trimmed and depapered. But I have many more I need to make.

A new color

Wow, July 1st. I am caught up with yellow for the rainbow scrap challenge, and just trying to put some of the other pineapple blossom blocks together.
Our new July color is blue. I don't need blue in any of the rainbow quilts I have started so I will work on my floating stars quilt that is blue for July.

This is a pattern by a fabric manufacturer called neutral territory. I bought the kit a few years ago. There were 4 different blocks with different fabrics. I followed each step and the chart for putting it together. I like it as a whole, but I don't see much pattern in the pattern. sigh...

Oh my goodness I love this fabric ... and the candy. Who could resist either?

string saturday and yellow

yellow is my official favorite color, followed close behind is just about every other color. My pineapple blossom blocks are finished in yellow. I tried another flippy corner ruler, but still love the corner pop from Studio 180 the best. I love the rainbow scrap challenge.

For String Saturday, I am working on a ribbon border for this string quilt. I would rather just do the string piecing for string Saturday, but I think I better include the other parts of a string quilt, or the stringing will just turn into more UFOs ( not that that is a bad thing)
I am using 4 inch blocks and 2 1/2 inch corners so that I can make the bonus triangles as well. I am using Bonnie Hunter's Bonus buddy. I use it alot and just love how easy that has made this little part quilting. It came with her essential triangle tool which is missing at the moment.

I have a few done and more to go

I have all the rows together for the Cindy Carter jelly roll mystery. The back ground is a light gray.

and the borders are made and ready to attach.

Orange crush is on the longarm. woohoo  on schedule for One monthly Goal
