quilt show entries

Today is our guild quilt show. We have our show every other year. These are the four I decided to show. We were only allowed 3, but, they didn't get enough, so they asked us to bring 4. Many of our older members don't quilt much anymore.

snow days has a lot of embroidery in the light color in the center. It has a sentimental story. Pictures do not do it justice.

lozenges is a Bonnie Hunter project that I swapped blocks with quilting buddies and my daughter.

strip tease Is a quilt that both my quilting friend Linda and I both made our own versions. We worked on them at the same time. She beat me on finishing, but I quilted hers. She wanted both quilts hanging together at the show.

midnight flight is a Bonnie Hunter quilt from her book More adventures with leaders and enders.

snow days finish

I have a finish. I call this the heart attack quilt. When my hubby was planning to have knee replacement surgery, I prepped all the stitched panels and had the supplies ready to sit through his recovery with this quilt in mind. Day two in the orthopedic hospital, he had a heart attack, and, was sent to a different hospital for stents and a longer recovery. Everything was fine, but, I did a lot of stitching. And, I was grateful for the distraction.

78 x 78 =20 yards

The quilt is a crabapple quilt pattern. There were 15 stitched panels and after the top is assembled there are additional stitching over the regular seams. I had seen the actual quilt, at a quilt show, at a vendor booth, and, bought the pattern. I ordered the floss on line in the colorway suggested by the pattern. It is hard to see the stitching in the pictures but it is lovely in person. I used scraps and stash for the pieced squares.

I used transfer eze printed on the printer for stitching lines

new goals for July

July is here with a whole new month of possiblities.
For my one monthly goal, in July, I want to quilt my snow days quilt and square dance mystery quilt from my carolina home. This was a 2018 mystery quilt.

I want to join my alpha letters into a quote and a top.

And, I want to organize and make a top with my Jamestown landing blocks. I started Jamestown landing in 2013. This project is in blocks. This quilt is a combination of HSTS and string blocks found in string fling book by Bonnie Hunter.

This will also be part of my PHD 2020

stash report October 7, 2018

This week I stopped at an estate sale, actually 3. The first sale, I was there early enough to find some fabric, and it was 1/2 price. Most of the mauve and blue fabric was from the 80s and 90s. I have a dresden plate from back then as an ufo. I may need some of this to finish it. There was 15 yards in that bundle. which surprised me, since it looked so little and innocent. 15 yards is a lot of fabric.

I was thrilled with the bright fabrics. It would make a fun baby quilt.

Part of the weekend was a quilt show in Lafayette. I didn't take many pictures but here are the ones I did. I think it was called pickle dish gone wild.

I love classic block quilts

and this was a beautiful patriotic quilt

Most of the color on this quilt came from the stitching -  very interesting

stash report

Fabric Used this Week 0 yards
Fabric Used or gone from house year to Date: 772 3/4 yards  * 400 donated

Fabric Added this Week: 19 yards

Net Fabric for 2018: 565 yards used more than purchased.

I sewed at least 15 min every day this week - double wedding ring and orca bay

I found another tree that was hiding in the snow days quilt. I missed the top part, and I need to get the stitching finished for slow sunday stitching.

one monthly goal recap

I want to revisit my goals for the month of August and see how I have done. It's hard to believe we are at the end of another month. And today is my 44th wedding anniversary.

For August, I want to continue work on stella cyranna. I have the pieced rows finished, and it is time to assemble and work on the wool applique.
I had trouble with the instructions on the wool applique. I have only a picture to go by, and to me, the amount of wool is not adequate for the color combinations I am seeing.

I want to quilt roll roll cotton boll. I found a backing, so I need to make the binding, and, I have two customer quilts, and then I can quilt it.
It's quilt show time for the guild, so a couple of other quilts snuck in front of Roll roll for quilting, but I have entered it into the show, so it will be done.

I want to string piece for orca bay ( here are other images) for the next mystery quilt finish.
I have all the blue string blocks finished. There are 72 and now I move on to red string pieced blocks.

I need to decide borders on snow days and prepare to quilt. I think it will be a while until I quilt it.
Nothing decided. I was distracted by the double wedding ring quilt along.

jupiter and one monthly goal

I have 2 blocks finished for Drops of Jupiter. There was almost only one. I am not sure I am liking it, and every seam is an inset seam. But, making two was better.

A new month is time for new goals for One monthly goal at Elm street quilts.

For August, I want to continue work on stella cyranna. I have the pieced rows finished, and it is time to assemble and work on the wool applique.

July goals

My One Monthly goals for July might have been ambitious. But, I am pleased with my progress. I wanted to assemble the quiltville mystery roll roll cotton boll, and I did. just this morning. I still haven't pressed it, and I want to get it ready to quilt. I am even thinking I like it enough to enter it in the guild quilt show in September. We will see after I quilt it.

I wanted to assemble snow days and finish the stitching, and I did. I think it needs a border, though.

I had hoped to get one more block for Across the wide Missouri, but, this is as far as I have gotten. I am not comfortable with applique, yet, and it is a good thing that it is supposed to look primitive.

I enjoy participating in the One Monthly Goal. It helps me plan and keeps me a little more focused. I would be all over the place otherwise.

July goal

Happy Independence day! I am proud to be an American, and grateful for those who have made great sacrifices for me and my family, past and future, to enjoy our wonderful freedoms. May God bless us.
I am especially happy to have fun with my Grandchildren today. There is never enough time with them.

It's time to take stock of my quilting for July, and set my goals for One monthly Goals. I have had some projects spanning more than a month, and need to take the next step. In June, I assembled all the sections for my snow days quilt. This month, I want to have a finished top. There are 5 sections. The left border is attached to the center, and then a bottom border is added, then the right border, and then the top border.

In May, I decided I just had to open the stella cyranna quilt, In June I spent time cutting all the pieces except the applique. For July I want to assemble the top and prepare the applique.

And I want to restart a project from the past called Across the wide missourri. It's an applique quilt, my husband bought for me for Christmas one year, and it was a huge surprise. I know He would like to know I was thrilled with the gift, by seeing me work on it. I can see my rug being finished soon and that would make evening stitching time available. I have 3 blocks done.

snow days -where do I start

Part of my One monthly goal, was to assemble all the stitched pieces and finish the stitching on snow days. I haven't had it out since January, so I had to reacquaint myself with the random pieces and parts. I wasn't sure where to begin. I divided the parts from the extra fabric that I might still need.

The instructions are as big a book as war and peace. I scanned through them again.

And I finished the border pieces with stitchery and even pieced the very center.

Part 2 of my goal was to finish Christmas lights mystery quilt. Which I blogged about here.

And I also set a goal to cut out stella cyrana quilt which I did.

And I sewed most of the blocks together.

I met my goals and One monthly goal has been a big help. It is just enough to help me be accountable and not too much it is overwhelming.
