I have a finish
From my Carolina home hosted a mystery quilt in 2018. It was the first time, I had tried one of her mysteries. I enjoyed it, and I like the result. It was easy to keep up with the clues, and, I had a quilt top shortly after the reveal, but, it has languished in the "to be quilted" pile until now. This one is called square dance. I chose to do the queen size. It finished at about 82 x 90 and used a lot of scraps.
For the back, I used a strip from a trip around the world that I knew I would not finish.
I used a checkerboard print for the binding, and, I quilted all over swirls.

This counts for my one monthly goal and PHD 2020 I have finished 13 ufos this year so far, and started 7.

to do: make two more
I thought I was done making the blocks for charming stars, but, I miscounted. So, I need to make 2 more. They are quick and easy, so, no worries. I just wish I could count...lol
I think I am liking the colors together, and, I think I will add sashing.
I have the square dance quilt on the frame, so to do number 2. Is quilt the quilt.
Meanwhile, summer is happening.

new goals for July
July is here with a whole new month of possiblities.
For my one monthly goal, in July, I want to quilt my snow days quilt and square dance mystery quilt from my carolina home. This was a 2018 mystery quilt.
I want to join my alpha letters into a quote and a top.
And, I want to organize and make a top with my Jamestown landing blocks. I started Jamestown landing in 2013. This project is in blocks. This quilt is a combination of HSTS and string blocks found in string fling book by Bonnie Hunter.
This will also be part of my PHD 2020

good fortune with a border
Happy Christmas eve.
I have all of part 4 finished and ready for the good fortune mystery.
And, I have cut all the pieces for part 5. These will be fun to sew after Christmas. Is it just me or have the clues been easier this year. I am not complaining. I wonder if the assembling will be the hard part.
I have moved this square dance quilt to the quilt stage by adding the borders.
It took a few days to decide. I had several auditions of border fabrics that were definitely all wrong. And, then, the birds sang and all the world was lovely, and I found the perfect border, until my husband said ummm...are you sure? He never has an opinion. oh phooey.
I needed time out. I was cleaning my sewing room, and on the floor ( doesn't everyone have stuff on their floor) was a piece I needed to put away. And then I knew He was right. This was the one. The other was too bright. I also found this 80s print for the back.

progress
All my customer quilts are done, and the longarm is all mine. I want to finish a few of my projects over the holidays. And finish to me is putting together the back top and binding, ready to be quilted, And maybe quilting.
The backing is pieced and the binding ready for orca bay mystery.
I have had this basket of a quilt and fabrics to the square dance mystery taking up much needed space in the quilt room. I need borders. I am not feeling inspired yet. definitely nope....
definitely nope... Inspiration will come soon enough.
I have been cutting my large florals for a quilt idea I have for the scrap crazy 6 template.
And I have been restacking my project boxes. After a year of searching through them for various projects, they are all over the place. I am pulling my top 10 ufos for 2019 and putting them in the same location.

square dance extras
I mentioned earlier that I had these interesting pieces leftover after making square dance from my carolina home. But I had no idea what I was going to do with them.
This is not my quilt but I saw it online, and I thought I recognized the pieces as those I had just made.
I would like to do something like this with my pieces. Anyone know a pattern name for this?
I have finally put the Christmas quilt on my bed. I plan on leaving it there until Spring. I love the colors. It's Carolina Christmas from Bonnie Hunter book and one of her mystery quilts from 2009. I finished it this year as part of my mystery quilt challenge. This quilt lays perfectly on my bed and doesn't try to slip off in the night.

good fortune with orca bay
I have a top! Orca bay is finally a top and ready for quilting.
And while I was putting this top together, I was able to leader and ender these pieces. I had these interesting leftover pieces from square dance quilt from My carolina home. And I have no idea what I am going to do with them yet, but I knew I would use them sewn together before I would use them apart. Putting rows together is a start and stop kind of sewing, and I needed a great leader /ender project. tada
I had a big hand binding project this weekend, so I was only able to get clue #3 of good fortune cut, and a little bit of sewing.
At this time last year, I was working on clue 2 of Ringo lake.

square dance assembly
I have been working on the mystery quilt from My Carolina Home. I am assembling the blocks as per the final clue. It is a fun quilt and was very easy to keep up with the clues.
I found this little catch all of scrappy bits next to the cutting table, and needed to sort and decide what to do with them.
There was an assortment of odds and ends that I either trashed or put where they belonged. I am still trying to find a low level of clean somewhere. What do you do with all the leftover pieces? obviously, I don't want to make the decisions about it when I come across the pieces, so I throw them in a container.

square dance 4
I have been working on the mystery quilt from My Carolina Home.
I finished the May clue - allemande left- of square dance mystery quilt. The reveal has already happened, and I am really happy with the quilt. I just have not caught up yet.
I have been working on stella cyranna quilt and I have all the square in a square blocks finished.
The purple fabric is a brushed deco fabric, and the nap would make the pieces shift under the pressure foot, but I think we convinced it to cooperate.
I also tried a few triangle squares. I thought the brocade would be more difficult, but it wasn't, and it ironed nicely.

square dance clue 3 finish
I have been working on the mystery quilt from My Carolina Home. I have finished clue 3 come down the middle. It was an easy clue, sewing rectangles together in 2 different combinations. I didn't take a picture of the print with a light set. After some of the mystery quilts I have done, this is really a pleasure.
My Clue 1
My Clue 2
With my hubby home, my Nellie longarm had a much needed spa day.
Now, she purrs. I am so grateful He has been able to do this. It has been a blessing all these years that He is very talented in this way.

square dance clue #2
I have finished the second clue for the mystery quilt square dance. Do si do. I made a bunch of 9 patches from my scrappy jelly roll pieces. It's not too late to start this mystery quilt. square dance mystery at My Carolina Home.
I enjoy making 9 patches. Everything looks good in a 9 patch. And it is methodical work, almost pieceful -pun intended.

square dance clue one finished
I had leftover strips from a project in a project box that I didn't want to finish. I thought they would make perfect pieces for the square dance mystery at My Carolina Home. I was able to cut all the prints I needed and all the fabric A s. I think that is all for clue #1. I am making the queen size version. I wasn't sure until I started cutting. I thought I would cut until I ran out of scraps. I didn't, so I am stopping at queen size.
The cutting has been easy, just rectangles. If you want to join the mystery it is here. at My Carolina Home is hosting a mystery quilt

more project box decisions
project #4 from the project box included these 2 blocks and thangles and a set of moda strips from a scrap bag. This was the start at a workshop a couple of years ago. The idea was to use a pack of thangles, and then arrange all the half square triangles in whatever way we wanted. I discovered quickly, that I didn't like thangles. I liked the promise of perfect piecing, but not the sewing and stopping and sewing and stopping. or the fussiness of the papers.
I made 2 more to see if I would enjoy making them, and I didn't. I just wasn't in the mood I guess. I am not doing the original project. What else could I do? hmmm
I thought about just cutting the strips into half square triangles and making them sporadically as a leader/ ender, but, I have too many other projects started that I would rather do.
So, I decided they would be great fabric choices to add to the square dance mystery, I have been wishing to do. I have followed along as My Carolina Home has been hosting a mystery quilt and I have a basket of scraps that I would use set aside. I think it is time to start. That is the plan. If in a week I still have not started it. I need to concede defeat and send the fabric into the strip drawers.
