5 quilt December 30, 2024

  last report December 2, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

This report finishes 2024. I will have 3 quilts I will carry over into 2025. But, I will rearrange them to feel like I am starting fresh with the new year. My goal is to quilt each finish each ufo - quilted and bound before I move to the next quilt. But, I will have 5 quilts again that I can work on as I have opportunity. The variety helps keep it interesting while not overwhelming.

I finished 1 ufo in December for a total of  41 for the year -I have a page at the top of the blog for 2024 finishes.

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. midnight flight - my one monthly goal for December was to finish and I barely made it.

84 x 84

2. scrappy twirl -assemble rows -I cut the border pieces

3. tiny tuesday -I am making 8 rows

4. charming stars -   I gave the blocks away to guild

5. kaleidoscope quilt- border- This was missing and is now found again

I am ready to start fresh with all new projects for 2025. I used a random number generator and chose 26 ufos from my list. I added the last 3 of 2024 ufos that were not finished to list as well.

28 over my goal of 12 for the year

Looking forward to January:

1. squared away - This is my one monthly goal for January. I want to assemble the top.

2. peppermint candy - I need to make the blocks

3. kaleidoscope - I need to make the outer border

4. scrappy twirl - I need to join the blocks with the border

5. tiny tuesday - finish the rows

5 quilt November

 last report November 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I emptied my 'to be quilted' closet this month. I started the year with 34, and they are all quilted. That is such a relief and very freeing. Hopefully, now, I will just be ready to quilt any UFOs I finish, when I finish them. I am still planning on doing the 5 quilt project next year to finish older ufos. I have chosen 24 projects randomly. Seven of them, I will pretend are starting something new, even though, there has been some kind of work on them. Five of them just need assembly of the blocks, and the rest need piecing work.

I finished 4 ufos in November

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs.  I did finish both of my goal ufo quilts this month and emptied the closet.

1. Lozenges 11/24

2. split nine patch 11/24

83 x 96

3. country roads is finished

90 x 90

4. baby 30s is finished

54 x 54

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. midnight flight - was my one monthly goal for November was to finish all the star blocks. This month, I assembled the quilt to the inner border. The outer border is a pieced border, and then, I will finish it this month, fingers crossed, as my  my one monthly goal for December

2. scrappy twirl no new progress and it is still hanging on my design wall.

3. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks and start the rows

yes, a pig

4. charming stars - needs sashing and assembly

5. grandpas star - needs assembly - I am moving this to the new year

6. I have found my kaleidoscope quilt again and will add it in with the others. It needs the borders

My PHD for November

Looking forward to December:

charming stars

As I get closer to the end of the year, I am not sure how I will finish my 5 quilt ufo project. I have one quilt I think I can still finish. I have 4 others that are in progress. I want to start with new- in the new year, but, with so many projects in progress, I feel the need to carry them over into the new year.

If I remember right, I found all these 6 inch squares in a scrap bag someone had given me in 2020.

I have 16 squares made, and it has bubbled up to the 5 quilt project this month. I just cracked open the ufo project case.

I saw this on Brenda at songbird designs and it is me going to radiation therapy every morning.

5 quilt November 1, 2024

last report September 30, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

Again, health issues impacted my goals for October. I just didn't focus well or want to sew much. But, I feel better, for now, and I want to finish strong for the year. I never thought in January that I would have finished 36 ufos this year and nearly empty my over burdened 'to be quilted' closet. That is motivating to keep on going.

I finished 3 ufos in October

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I  only finished one. But, the second one is on the frame.

1. box kite is finished

2. lozenges  - I did not finish this one ....yet - It is on the frame

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. halloween stripe runner is finished

2. diamond strings is finished

64 x 64

3. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration. It is embarrassing  how long I have procrastinated this project beyond leaving it in the closet for a few years. But, the plan was once it is out of the closet, I would work on it but I didn't.

4. midnight flight - Finishing all the quadrant blocks was my October one monthly goal. I did - yipee

5. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks - I have black and brown to do.

My PHD for September

Looking forward to November:

It was a good month for finishing despite health issues. I was able to see some oldies finished. to do : the other half

Jamestown landing looks like a big mess up close. But, the camera makes it look better and like it is supposed to look.
I have had a few not nice things to say while working on this. It is a really good idea to keep current with a project and not put it away for a few years.  I have wondered what I was thinking many times.
The grass was wet, so, I haven't really checked to make sure everything is going in the right direction.

Last week, I realized I needed two more blocks for the charming stars quilt. I made those, and, now, the blocks are waiting for more decisions. These are the 6 inch squares left over from that project. There are over 100 squares, more than enough to make another quilt. It is impossible to use scraps to the end.

to do: make two more

I thought I was done making the blocks for charming stars, but, I miscounted. So, I need to make 2 more. They are quick and easy, so, no worries. I just wish I could count...lol

I think I am liking the colors together, and, I think I will add sashing.

I have the square dance quilt on the frame, so to do number 2. Is quilt the quilt.

Meanwhile, summer is happening.

to do: something new

I uncovered a small box with 6 inch squares. I believe, I bought it at a quilt show garage sale. I often wonder what the original quilter was planning and thinking while cutting her fabric into squares.
By donating her scraps, she has brought pleasure to my little world.
I didn't want to cut them down to 5 inch squares, but, I did look for inspiration in the charm pack patterns. I would just make the squares bigger, and, then, the quilt would be bigger.

I thought the squares looked coordinated enough, to just use them scrappy.  The squares are big almost 18 inches. I am using this project at the treadle in the evenings while hubby and I are watching tv. These projects are not "real" projects, and, I am in no hurry. My favorite fabric is the black with fruit, so, I am making sure to have one of them in every square. They are too big to press on my little treadle space, so I will press them when I am done.
