5 quilt September 30, 2024

   last report September 2, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

It was a good month for finishing despite health issues. I was able to see some oldies finished. I didn't add to the quilting closet, so, hopefully, I will move the piecing and assembling along next month, but, I will be starting radiation and I don't know how that will affect me. Always an adventure.

I finished 4 ufos in September

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I did the two I planned for September. I finished....

1.cheddar jubilee  my one monthly goal for September is finished

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

2. dark strings is finished

3. halloween stripe runner is almost finished

4. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration.

5. midnight flight - all the cheddar chain blocks are done. I am working on the red chain blocks. Finishing all the blocks will be my October one monthly goal. I hope I can have the big star blocks together, too, but I want to be cautious.

garlic knots finish

I blogged about garlic knots when I re- started it as part of my 5 quilt ufo project. I had made all the blocks in 2017 from the free pattern in quiltmaker magazine. Bonnie Hunter went on the create a stand alone pattern. Garlic knots  was a puzzle to make with the sashings extending into 2 rows. I am thrilled with how it finished.  I love all the scrappy combinations of the garlic knots and remember many of the fabrics I used. I made it with my scrap bags of 2 inch strips. and the border from 1 1/2 inch strips.

74 x 86 = 24 yards

2888 pieces

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I was able to finish some oldies but goodies and some that hadn't lived in the to be quilted closet very long. My goal for the year was to seriously make a dent in my quilts that needed to be quilted and I have. I started with 34 and I have 6 ready, now. Of course, as I finish an older ufo it also needs to be quilted.

garlic knots quilt top

Last time I blogged about garlic knots, I realized it had an error in the way the blocks were turned. It was immediately put in time out to think about what it had done.  I was afraid I would have to take 3 rows apart to remake them. But the only row that was wrong, I could fix by redoing the sashing pieces on one end and reattaching the bottom sashing row.

I cut the sashing and border pieces in 2023 per color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. So, all I needed to do was piece the borders and add them to the center. And now, it will go to the 'to be quilted' closet. Wait time for quilts in that closet have decreased considerably this year, as I have been more deliberate in picking those quilts for the 5 quilt project.

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I had an easier time finishing this month because the luck of the draw were smaller quilts. It makes me look good. haha The closet looks noticeably emptier, but not so much I want to quit finishing older quilt ufos.

5 quilt June 2024 report

last report June, 3, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I love to piece. I've noticed that a quilt lives a long time in the ufo closet for one of two reasons. Borders and quilting. I can almost piece a quilt in the same amount of time it takes to go from borders to finishing. And there were, are, so many inspirational quilts available to do.

I finished 6 ufos in June.

In June I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I did the two I planned for June. I finished....

1. maple leaves - finished which I gave to a dear friend

64 x72

2. love jelly roll - My one monthly goal for June -  is finished

48 x 52

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. scrappy mountain majesties  is finished

65 x72

2. strip weave finished

56 x 68

1. cathedral stars - It is an older ufo from 2016, a Bonnie hunter pattern. the top is finished and sent to the to be quilted closet.

windy day

2. scrappy twirl new in March - I have all the blocks pieced  or so I thought. I want it to be bigger and will add a few more blocks and will start the rows. I am really dragging my feet on this one. That is what happens when I didn't have a plan at the start.

3. garlic knots - I have started building the borders while I am joining the rows. I cut many of the pieces for the sashings and borders last year for the rainbow scrap challenge according to the color of the month. It has been really nice to have the pieces ready to go.

corner blocks

garlic knots again

I am still plugging away on my garlic knots. The puzzle continues as I make the rows. I have 5 out of 10 ready to join. I have started going to my Friday sew group a little early and I can work a little better on this quilt without the conversations that I do cherish. best of both worlds
