5 quilt September 2, 2024

  last report July 31, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I was able to finish some oldies but goodies and some that hadn't lived in the to be quilted closet very long. My goal for the year was to seriously make a dent in my quilts that needed to be quilted and I have. I started with 34 and I have 6 ready, now. Of course, as I finish an older ufo it also needs to be quilted.

I finished 6 ufos in August. 29 ufos for 2024

In August,  I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I did the two I planned for August. I finished....

1. neutral territory  from 2013 is finished

48 x 60

2. cathedral stars finished this year My one monthly goal for August

85 x 85

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. garlic knots -ready for quilting

2. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration.

5. kaliedescope - mary huey workshop -ready for borders

cathedral stars finish

My cathedral stars quilt is finished. This was my one monthly goal for August.

I made most of the blocks in 2016 . It popped up on the 5 quilt project in May 2024  and it was a top in June 2024. I found this as a free pattern at quiltville. When I opened the box after all these years, I didn't like the colors I had used to make the blocks. But, It made a striking quilt.

85 x 85 = 25 yards

I am never sure about the thread color on a dark scrappy quilt. I used a light gray that I thought would blend with the white and not be so stark on the border. I like how it turned out. The border is not boring and the piecing stands out instead of the quilting in the center. I did my usual free form loops and circles and used a turquoise backing.

5 quilt June 2024 report

last report June, 3, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I love to piece. I've noticed that a quilt lives a long time in the ufo closet for one of two reasons. Borders and quilting. I can almost piece a quilt in the same amount of time it takes to go from borders to finishing. And there were, are, so many inspirational quilts available to do.

I finished 6 ufos in June.

In June I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I did the two I planned for June. I finished....

1. maple leaves - finished which I gave to a dear friend

64 x72

2. love jelly roll - My one monthly goal for June -  is finished

48 x 52

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. scrappy mountain majesties  is finished

65 x72

2. strip weave finished

56 x 68

1. cathedral stars - It is an older ufo from 2016, a Bonnie hunter pattern. the top is finished and sent to the to be quilted closet.

windy day

2. scrappy twirl new in March - I have all the blocks pieced  or so I thought. I want it to be bigger and will add a few more blocks and will start the rows. I am really dragging my feet on this one. That is what happens when I didn't have a plan at the start.

3. garlic knots - I have started building the borders while I am joining the rows. I cut many of the pieces for the sashings and borders last year for the rainbow scrap challenge according to the color of the month. It has been really nice to have the pieces ready to go.

corner blocks

cathedral top finish

My current 5 quilt project has been  cathedral stars  an older ufo from 2016, a Bonnie hunter pattern. I just finished all the piecing and the borders. I like it much better than I thought I would. I have decided to add it to the to be quilted closet to wait for it's turn on the longarm. Right now, I am still quilting this month's quilting goals. I am enjoying the break from big quilts. My new piecing project is garlic knots.

We had a beautiful rainy day with just the right amount of sunshine to see a double rainbow.

5 quilts June 2, 2024

   Last report May 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I finished 4 ufos in May. They were all quilts in the to be quilted closet. I did want to reduce the number of quilts that were in the closet. But it is a tradeoff with finishing ufos that need to be finished.

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I finished....

1. scrappy log cabin is finished

2.shirt anvil is finished

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. Lucky stars is finished

2. florabunda is finished

3. cathedral stars - It is an older ufo from 2016, a Bonnie hunter pattern. I have started assembly and all the rows are made. I need to sit and pin them together.

3. scrappy twirl new in March - I have all the blocks pieced and will start the rows. I wish I had left them in halves and may still unpick if I have don't like sewing the y seams. I have laid them out again and stared at them trying to decide what I want to do next. I had an idea to move it along a bit.

4. garlic knots - I opened the box and began making rows. It is challenging with matching cornerstones in the sashing. All the parts are made or cut and I need to work one row at a time webbing the blocks and a row of sashing together before I can join the rows.

Looking forward to June:

quilts to be quilted from the closet -top priority - I have 18 still to go.

1. maple leaves is on the frame

2. love jelly roll -this will be my one monthly goal for June

ufo projects for June:

1. cathedral stars center and borders

2. garlic knots making rows

3. scrappy twirl assembly of the top

4. dark strings needs a border

5. lozenges - 2014 leader/ ender challenge

more cathedral stars

It is really easy to start an on point quilt assembly, it's the middle that takes forever. Cathedral stars, is a Bonnie hunter pattern that is free on her site. I have several rows made, but, I am still making slow progress on assembly. the longest row is 11 blocks.

We have had the yellow peony for 3 years, and this is the first year it has made more than one bloom. yellow is my favorite color, so I had to try this unconventional color. Peony is  Indiana's state flower. I have always loved it's beautiful bloom. This has been such a lovely Spring for plants and flowers. And ahem weeds.

cathedral stars start

As part of my 5 quilts project, I opened a new ufo project from 2016. Cathedral stars, is a Bonnie hunter pattern that is free on her site. I was not thrilled with it when I opened it. I didn't like the colors. But, I let it sit for a few days, and I decided to try it. It is going together pretty well. I think I will like it when I am done. All the blocks were done, and the setting triangles were cut.

I had a small start at an open sew that I attended last week. I will be sewing twosies and then sort into rows.

  Last report April 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I finished 3 ufos in April. I did not attend many of my social sewing events this month. They were just inconvenient this time. I missed the interaction. I am hoping to spend more time outdoors and organizing this month. It seems as though I am getting a lot done, but I spent a few years not getting them done and that is why it looks like that. LOL
