5 quilt November

 last report November 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I emptied my 'to be quilted' closet this month. I started the year with 34, and they are all quilted. That is such a relief and very freeing. Hopefully, now, I will just be ready to quilt any UFOs I finish, when I finish them. I am still planning on doing the 5 quilt project next year to finish older ufos. I have chosen 24 projects randomly. Seven of them, I will pretend are starting something new, even though, there has been some kind of work on them. Five of them just need assembly of the blocks, and the rest need piecing work.

I finished 4 ufos in November

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs.  I did finish both of my goal ufo quilts this month and emptied the closet.

1. Lozenges 11/24

2. split nine patch 11/24

83 x 96

3. country roads is finished

90 x 90

4. baby 30s is finished

54 x 54

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. midnight flight - was my one monthly goal for November was to finish all the star blocks. This month, I assembled the quilt to the inner border. The outer border is a pieced border, and then, I will finish it this month, fingers crossed, as my  my one monthly goal for December

2. scrappy twirl no new progress and it is still hanging on my design wall.

3. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks and start the rows

4. charming stars - needs sashing and assembly

5 quilt November 1, 2024

last report September 30, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

Again, health issues impacted my goals for October. I just didn't focus well or want to sew much. But, I feel better, for now, and I want to finish strong for the year. I never thought in January that I would have finished 36 ufos this year and nearly empty my over burdened 'to be quilted' closet. That is motivating to keep on going.

I finished 3 ufos in October

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I  only finished one. But, the second one is on the frame.

1. box kite is finished

2. lozenges  - I did not finish this one ....yet - It is on the frame

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. halloween stripe runner is finished

2. diamond strings is finished

64 x 64

3. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration. It is embarrassing  how long I have procrastinated this project beyond leaving it in the closet for a few years. But, the plan was once it is out of the closet, I would work on it but I didn't.

4. midnight flight - Finishing all the quadrant blocks was my October one monthly goal. I did - yipee

5. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks - I have black and brown to do.

My PHD for September

Looking forward to November:

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

It was a good month for finishing despite health issues. I was able to see some oldies finished. I didn't add to the quilting closet, so, hopefully, I will move the piecing and assembling along next month, but, I will be starting radiation and I don't know how that will affect me. Always an adventure.

grandpas star too

all the Grandpas star blocks are finished, and 1, 280 half square triangles are gone. I didn't have to make a single half square triangle for these blocks. They were the "bonus" triangles from flip and sew corners of other quilt projects. I had already sewed them at that time. More about this here and here

Those silly ends that have to be trimmed, and the wastebasket had walked off on vacation.

I have more glitter blocks finished.

I didn't get my stash report blogged yesterday.
There was really no change, so I wasn't as motivated to share. I have been using fabric but nothing to report yet.

Grandpas star

I have yet another long time ufo in a project box. This is a wonderful quilt to use all the bonus triangles that I have been accumulating. And the blocks are really fun to make. And when I do the final pressing, it is just so fun to see what it became. I have some very old 1/2 square triangles that finish at 2 inches.

When I first started making Bonnie Hunter quilts, the blocks were more kitchen sink type blocks. Bonnie has refined her scrappy approach to a more color controlled scrappy style. So my bonus triangles, are now baggies that are one color. I don't know if any one quilt will make enough triangles to make it's own quilt. So that is a worry for later.

The pattern was from an Addicted to scraps column in the March/April 2012 quiltmaker magazine

the mock up of the quilt shows 80 blocks 8 x 10. I will have to see if I like it that way. I really like the look of just the block.

I generally sew the bonus triangles at the time I am sewing the original block. Then I throw them in a drawer. Every now and then, I open the drawer, panic at the chaos, and determine to do "something" with the mess. I have a couple of marathon pressing and trimming sessions, and then, count and baggie them. I usually love the process, and so I am more likely to use them and make them again. I am really happy that Bonnie has "invented" the bonus triangle buddy. I really use it, and it has helped with the trimming process.

When I opened the box, I have 28 blocks, only 52 more to go.

A New monthly Goal

One monthly goal and March UFo 2017 at Patchwork Times is Fancy Forest quilt by Elizabeth Hartman. I have completed all the blocks. I need to cut all the sashing and border pieces, and assemble the top, and quilt it.
I used a cotton and steel fat quarter bundle. I am really excited to work on this and finish it.

I found a small batch of 2 inch 1/2 square triangles left over from another project and added them to my Grandpas star quilt project. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern in her Addicted to scraps column in quiltmaker magazine. I work on these from time to time as rogue squares surface. If I cleaned more, I would find more, but who does that!
