A New monthly Goal

One monthly goal and March UFo 2017 at Patchwork Times is Fancy Forest quilt by Elizabeth Hartman. I have completed all the blocks. I need to cut all the sashing and border pieces, and assemble the top, and quilt it.
I used a cotton and steel fat quarter bundle. I am really excited to work on this and finish it.

I found a small batch of 2 inch 1/2 square triangles left over from another project and added them to my Grandpas star quilt project. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern in her Addicted to scraps column in quiltmaker magazine. I work on these from time to time as rogue squares surface. If I cleaned more, I would find more, but who does that!

quiltathon day 2

Judy at Patchwork Times quiltathon day 2 for me. I sewed a few flowers for American Beauty Rose, and I am ready to start laying them on the block. This part has me intimidated.

As a diversion from having to take the next step on Rose, I made some leaves for the Rainbow scrap challenge. At the last minute, last month, I decided to add 2 new quilt starts to the challenge. Maple Leaves and Cutting Garden. so I still have last months leaves to make. I need 9 of them.

I spent some time sewing cheddar onto my midnight flight rectangles , and marking bonus triangles using Bonnie Hunter's bonus buddy. I do love that thing.

While resting. I decided to unknit my sock that had gone terribly wrong. It was risky to take it apart. But, it was either that or start over. If this doesn't work I will start over. problem solved.

I think I caught it all and got back on good footing. Pun intended. I am going to turn the heel yet again.

Pretty exciting day that even included a little fabric shopping ( who me?) and much loved time talking with my daughter via hangouts.

I love a quiltathon day 4

I was very good this week and resisted alot of temptation at Missourri Star Quilt Co. I have been sick and it has been bitterly cold, so I really wanted to order something, but didn't. Go me.
I've cut alot of fabric this week, but I am waiting to count it when the projects are finished.

While my daughter was here, I grabbed 2 boxes of odd fabric from the attic, and we played the "you pick one and I will pick one" game. 90 yards of fabric went home with her and 18 yards went to goodwill. Her husband doesn't see the fascination with all this fabric. This should help me see better numbers on my stash accounting for awhile. She took some ugly fabric to me and was delighted and giggly.


I bought 2 yards of fabric at quilt expression in Noblesville, In. I really "love" this fabric

I have had to hide my rug hooking project from curious Grandchildren, it will be a sweet pleasure to get it out and start again.

Judy at Patchwork times is having a quiltathon and I have been working on projects for that. I hope to cut my civil war version of En provence for 64 1/2 square triangles.

quiltathon day 3

Most of my Christmas stuff has been put away.
 And I am starting the Rainbow Scrap challenge. RSC17 the color for January is purple. I have decided to do Bonnie Hunter Pineapple Blossom for my blocks. I think I will do 5 of each color and I am doing them with 2 1/2 inch scrap strips instead of 2 inches as the pattern suggests. I also want to try using the corner pop tool by Deb Tucker for the corners, to try something new.

The quiltathon continues at Patch work Times.

All my hourglass blocks in turquoise are finished and ready to mail . I am swapping with my daughter and a friend. I needed 150 divided by 3.

I finished cutting all my pieces for Carolina Chain. I need to label it and send it to the Ufo storage. I don't see me piecing it yet, I just needed to cut scraps as therapy. This is all that is left from 2- 2 inch bins.

I put a customer quilt on the frame and it is ready for the next phase. I longarm in four phases
1. measure and put the quilt on the frame
2. decide thread color, pattern, wind bobbins, thread the machine, baste the edges of the quilt
3. quilt it
4. reward myself - best part

If I try to combine 2 phases, I will procrastinate way too long.
I still haven't found borders yet for the tumbler quilt. sigh....

Catching Color

Judy, from patchwork times, has drawn the number 3 for our UFO challenge. My number 3 is my tumbler quilt from 2015 leader/ender challenge at Quiltville. The top is pieced and I am adding a row of yellow tumblers to the top and bottom and then a yellow matching border all around.

Seems simple enough to finish, just borders and quilting.

But, with company over the holidays and the washing of some quilts, that had not been previously washed, there was color bleeding. So far, 4 of them.sigh....  I am not happy. I hate putting all that work into them, to have them bleed and be ruined. The last one was from the backing.  So this scrappy tumbler is taking a bath, before I do any more work to it. A long time ago, I found this tutorial for making my own color catchers. I made them, cutting an old raggy towel into squares. I used them once, and I wasn't convinced it had helped. My husband actually used them when felting wool, and He loved them. So, now, I am thinking of trying them again. I am definitely adding several to my tumbler quilt when I give it a bath. If it doesn't bleed, I will proceed as planned and finish the quilt. If it does bleed, I may have to rethink this quilting thing, chuck all my fabric, and take up skydiving instead.

I soaked 8 raggy cloths in a solution of 2 T sodium bicarbonate or soda ash and 2 cups of warm water. I hung them to dry. The idea is that they are reuseable, I'm not sure I believe that.

I am thinking of joining the Rainbow Scrap challenge this year at SO scrappy. The January color is Purple. My goal for that challenge may be to wash all my purples and prepare them instead of actually making blocks.
