5 quilt July 2024 report

 last report July 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I had an easier time finishing this month because the luck of the draw were smaller quilts. It makes me look good. haha The closet looks noticeably emptier, but not so much I want to quit finishing older quilt ufos.

I finished 4 ufos in July.

In July,  I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I did the two I planned for July. I finished....

1. dsp older - finished

52 x 52

2. every which way finishedThis was my one monthly goal for July

58 x 64

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. Christmas snowflake finished

1. garlic knots -I fixed the rogue pieces after the center was assembled and I am adding the borders.

2. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration.

3.. lozenges are the 2014 quiltville leader/ ender challenge- the top is finished, back ready, binding prepared and it will go to the to be quilted closet.

4. halloween stripe runner from the beginning looking for the pattern - found the pattern and will carry on.

5. kaliedescope - mary huey workshop -Half of the blocks were finished when I opened the box, I am making the rest that I need for the quilt.

every which way finish goal

I chose finishing this ufo as my one monthly goal for July. I am guessing I started it in 2016. It was a 5 quilt project in 2022 to get it finished with a border. It has waited to be quilted until this month. It is a pattern called every which way. I had a fat quarter bundle of happy fabrics and found the pattern in a quilt shop in Utah. I would happily make it again. But, I think that a lot about my older projects. It is like seeing it again for the first time after so much time has passed.

58 x 64 = 12 yards

I think I still have a quilt to be quilted that I started in 2013 that is the oldest. But I have gone from 34 quilts in the closet to 7. I am really grateful for the time to finish them.

5 quilts April 13, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report April 4th

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink - I made waffle stamp blocks in yellow for March, yes March. I was behind making these.

2. Every which way- I added one border with fabric from the box and this one is officially sent to the "to be quilted" vault

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter -  I have all the block B finished- Next, I need to make setting triangles with the hourglasses.

4. Love jelly roll This is the 4th jelly roll used for the year. I am aiming for 12. I have added the last round of fabric to this quilt and I am calling it done. it is 48 x50. It will make a great donation quilt. Spring is here and it is either raining or windy. I will piece a back and prepare the binding and it will go into the vault to wait it's turn for quilting.

5. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. The top is together, but, I didn't think to plan the 2 sides that are without the print fabric - decision time.

5. wonderland holiday runner I used a random number generator for this older UFO - I need to find it and see what it needs

I have added Boho heart back into the list for 5 quilts or it won't get made.

We found this lovely lavender colored flower next to our tulip tree. Does anyone know what it is?

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 42 in my pile.

every which way top

I used a random number generator to add this to my 5 quilt list, after finishing an older UFO. I was lucky that this quilt was just missing borders. It was a quick finish to a top. I found a backing in the stash and made binding. And, now, it is ready for the "to be quilted" vault. I think it is very cute. I do remember the fabric came from Michaels craft store a few years ago.

This is an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016.

Our youngest turned 27 and we treated him to a new Mexican restaurant in town. How are we so old?

5 quilts April 4, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report March 21

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink- I cut and sewed all the yellow hunter's star blocks for March.

and I started with pink for April with candy blocks

2. I used a random number generator and I opened the box for an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016. It looks like the top is made and just needs borders. There is enough fabric left to make them. I really don't remember where or how I started this one. But, it is cute.

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter -  I have started block B - I am sewing the center part and will add the framework when the centers are done. There are a lot of the little hourglass units. I cut the neutral squares, and garnet squares I will need.

4. Love jelly roll This is the 4th jelly roll used for the year. I am aiming for 12. I don't really like making this quilt. So, I have set the goal to add a round each time I work on it. It is taking a little longer than I had hoped.

5. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. After I cut them, I was thinking I would just put them in an orphan box, but I didn't. I started sewing them with all the same orientation into rows. And I liked them better. 3 rows of 3 so far.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 43 in my pile.

1. shine -on the frame - quilted  - trimmed -binding done - finished here - hooray

customer quilt time pause

2. bricks in the barnyard -found - back- binding

customer quilt time pause

3. tiger, tiger

4. EPP green

5. lotus flower?

5 quilts march 21, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. my last 5 quilts report march 7, 2022

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - yellow/gold - I am catching up hunters star blocks in red and aqua and I am just about done, maybe 5 left to do.

This quilt is officially retired to the "to be quilted" closet
I used a random number generator and I will be opening the box for an older ufo called every which way by gigis thimble

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter -  all rhodo clue 6 is done. I have some cutting to do with clue 7 before I can begin to make block B

4.. basket blocks from 2014-  This quilt is officially sent to the "to be quilted" closet, too

I used a random number generator for the next UFO to fill this spot- I had a box  of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. I thought they were all the same size, but, they aren't even close. Most of these are scraps from the 90s and were given to me in a scrap bag.

there are 21 with  4 1/2 in squares

5 or 6 with 3 inch and 5 inch squares

I took these to Friday sew and just cut them. I tried rearranging them, and I just don't like them, yet

5. use a jelly roll - Love jelly roll This is the 4th jelly roll used for the year. I am aiming for 12. I don't like making this 'simple' jelly roll quilt. It is the same process as adding borders only 4 each round. I like the look of it, but, not the slow construction. After Friday group sew I was ready to pitch it, but, I am setting a goal to just add one round at a time. It will take longer, but, I won't be bored with it.

5. Next on my UFO list is an older UFO from the 90s. I bought vintage blocks and was hand quilting them. It is time to unbox them and make decisions. I am not sure I can find everything to keep hand quilting them, so we will decide.

6. wonderland holiday runner - Christmas - I don't remember this so I will have to find the box and make more decisions

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 43 in my pile. I keep finishing UFOs on the 5 quilt list and then there are more in the 'to be quilted' closet....

1.. Christmas sparkle- on the frame - quilted  - trimmed- binding done - finished hooray

2. shine -on the frame - quilted  - trimmed

customer quilt time pause

3. bricks in the barnyard -found

4. tiger, tiger

5. EPP green

Inching Forward

Sometimes, the best we can expect is just a little bit of progress.
In our small group, I put the nine blocks together for Every Which Way quilt. It was great, not many seams to match.

I cut out the pieces for a new jelly roll quilt. The strips were not 2 1/2. -that was a surprise.

I have so many jelly rolls and charm packs that I need to use them. However, opening them seems wrong. They are so pretty just the way they are. And with all the scrap quilts, I never use the good stuff.

I started adding the yellow tumblers to my tumbler quilt, in preparation for the borders. I am so excited.
But, there are so many......
I made neutral hourglass blocks for my swap- so now both pink and the first round of neutral are finished. I am using an accuquilt die to cut them and I like that there are no dog ears to trim.

I won

This quilt has been my away from home project for awhile. The pieces were cut and then it was a simple chain piecing project. The best kind of project for small groups. But it has reached the stage where decisions will have to made. So it gets a turn on the design wall. I  have an ornery design wall. When my back is turned it will drop the blocks to the floor. But, sometimes, there are happy accidents when I put them back up. We will see....

My Missouri Star quilt prize arrived this weekend! I Won! a layer cake. My first impression was that it was ugly :( and not what I would use. But, It is growing on me. Individual prints are pretty. Truthfully, I have never used a layer cake. I have several, I just don't have a wishlist that includes quilts made from them. I will have to start looking.
