sweet tooth

Every color of candy is my favorite after I make them. All the purple sweet tooth blocks are finished for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I am thinking that I have too many rainbow scrap projects. I am struggling at the end of the month to get them all done. But, I really like them all. Maybe next year I will exercise a little more sense.

This is one of the planters by our back door. I planted the yarrow and the little pansy. The rest of what is growing are volunteers from last year. I didn't know petunias would volunteer. What a lovely surprise.

green sweet tooth blocks

I am happy to dig around in my green scraps for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.  This week I made green crumb blocks and added HSTS to make my sweet tooth blocks. I found this quilt on sane crazy crumby quilt blog here. The crumb centers are 4 1/2 inches with 2 1/2 inch HSTS. So, the side pieces are 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches and the top and bottom are  pieces are 2 1/2 x 6 1/2. I think Jenny Doan did a you tube video.

And it was finally plant shopping day. I look forward to this every year. We didn't buy anything we could not eat this time. Our new adventure was a jerusalem artichoke. We had read about this years ago as a potato replacement, so it was a surprise to see a plant for sale after all this time. - just had to have it. The project manager at the greenhouse chased us down to ask us to let him know how it does for us this year. How fun. I am starting a new strawberry bed, so I was glad to get strawberries. We haven't had much luck with strawberries here. But, I love them, and I keep trying.

5 quilts April 4, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report March 21

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink- I cut and sewed all the yellow hunter's star blocks for March.

and I started with pink for April with candy blocks

2. I used a random number generator and I opened the box for an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016. It looks like the top is made and just needs borders. There is enough fabric left to make them. I really don't remember where or how I started this one. But, it is cute.

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter -  I have started block B - I am sewing the center part and will add the framework when the centers are done. There are a lot of the little hourglass units. I cut the neutral squares, and garnet squares I will need.

4. Love jelly roll This is the 4th jelly roll used for the year. I am aiming for 12. I don't really like making this quilt. So, I have set the goal to add a round each time I work on it. It is taking a little longer than I had hoped.

5. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. After I cut them, I was thinking I would just put them in an orphan box, but I didn't. I started sewing them with all the same orientation into rows. And I liked them better. 3 rows of 3 so far.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 43 in my pile.

1. shine -on the frame - quilted  - trimmed -binding done - finished here - hooray

customer quilt time pause

2. bricks in the barnyard -found - back- binding

customer quilt time pause

3. tiger, tiger

4. EPP green

5. lotus flower?

sweet tooth

I have my candy blocks ready for April and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Angela dropped the hint for the color a little early, so, I quick made crumb blocks and tada.. candy. I have baggies of strings sorted by color for the year.

It looks like I have some cutting to do with my pink scrappy strips. Last year, I was a little overwhelmed with my rsc choices for projects. This year, I was minimal at the start. But, with each passing month, I am adding something new that catches my eye. I think I just really see rainbow colors everywhere. I definitely drank the kool aid. haha

2 1/2 in drawer - pretty pink

Sweet tooth candy blocks

I woke up one morning, and, I wanted to make noodles. That was odd. Who wants to make noodles when you can open a bag from the store. The house was quiet, and, I cracked open a few eggs and started. It was a very sentimental time, and filled my heart with love for all the really great women who had taught me how to make noodles. I first thought of my Mother, who has been gone for 20 years. I could see her unrolling those long noodles and she talked about her Mother teaching her. It was an art to my Grandmother's generation. Pat Burton, taught a Relief Society class at church when I was a young homemaker, making it look doable. And Linda Phipps had me come to her home, and we made them her way together.  I made them with my daughter, and we had a flour fight. But, I know she is not the type to make homemade noodles. I made them with my Granddaughters. They thought it was messy. haha. If I ask my children their favorite meal that they want me to make for them, they request chicken and noodles with homemade noodles.  I have an attachment for my kitchen aid mixer, but, I can do them so much better, the old fashioned way. A bowl, an egg, some flour, a rolling pin, and some sentimental thoughts.

I made some candy blocks for the month of March and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

The yellow strings just lined up this way, all straight.

string candy

We have had a winter snow storm that has been very beautiful.

I have cut for easy breezy, fish school, and the stashbuster 2022 in aqua/ teal for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I can sit and do that.

what color is this one? I wish it could make up it's mind

I only had enough energy and aqua to make 4 blocks this month for my candy quilt.

a sweet block

I am so thrilled to finally move this project from the 'maybe someday' to the wip list. I have a few string/crumb blocks made over the years by color and enough strings to add to them this year. These pieces of candy are sugar free,, so I can have as many as I want.

I also cut red strips for my go fish leader/ender challenge. Each strip will make 6 hsts or 2 sets of fish.

one monthly goal and rainbow scrap challenge

I worked on crumb stars last year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I have 72 blocks made which will make a nice lap size. I am moving it to the ufo list since I don't know what I want to do with them yet. I thought I might make a straight setting until I took the picture and then I like them on point. we shall see

I am anxious to move on to something new.

I want to make  5 quilts for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I seem to have a thing for the number 5.

.sweet tooth,     inspired by Cathy at sane crazy crumbly

2. razzle dazzle, a bonnie hunter pattern that I haven't found yet

3. cut hunters star,  I think I will just cut this year and sew next year

4. boho heart - Jen Kingwell

5. blossom time a bonnie hunter pattern

This year, I have filled a good size rubbermaid with scraps in various colors and I hope to use that for the scraps I will need for my projects. If that is not enough or adequate variety I can go to my scrappy wire bins for additional goodies.

And since this is the first day of 2022 I have chosen a quilt to finish for my one monthly goal at elm street quilts. It is an older ufo from 2016 - Bonnie Hunter of quiltville  leader/ender challenge hourglass in rainbow colors.  I have the top together and it needs finished. I can't find a picture of it as a top.
