anvil finish

I began my shirt anvil quilt in 2020 after watching Beth Shibley's video on the anvil block. It was a top in 2023.  As part of my 5 quilt project,  I have been moving it along.  I really enjoyed sewing and working with recycled shirt fabrics from my stash. the shirts are soft and stable and cozy and hold their shape so well.

Now, it is a finished quilt. This was my one monthly goal for May and my 3rd ufo finish for May.

It started as recreational sewing with no plans for a quilt. I would just sew a few when I needed to unwind. I enjoyed making them so much, that eventually, I had so many it had to become a quilt.

anvil top finish

I finished all the blocks for my anvil quilt as my November One monthly goal.  My December goal was to finish it as a top.

I really love the shirting fabrics. This block has been a favorite. I can cut the hsts with my accuquilt. I can sew in short bursts. And, it comes out very nicely with an aha while pressing it. I think it looks classic and has a hint to an old vintage quilt.

Now, that my goal is finished, I will add it to the to be quilted closet. This quilt has been part of my 5 quilt project, which will start 2024 with all new Ufos to complete. I am itching to get started.

anvil rows

I had time at an open sew to work on assembling my anvil quilt. I still have some sashings that I am building in between other sewing. This is the last of my 5 quilts for the year, and, my one monthly goal is to finish the top by the end of December. I think I am on track to do that.

5 quilt December 11, 2023 last one for 2023

 Last report November 20, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I decided, in November, not to add any more projects to the 5 quilt project for the end of the year. I wanted to start over in the new year. So, this is the last report for the year.

1. strip tease pattern- the top is done. It is going into the to be quilted closet.

2. mini churndash - I have faithfully made a block a day since I pulled it out of the ufo closet. And I have an idea, now, on how I want to make the quilt. I want to mix my batch of 6 inch churn dashes in with them, and eliminate that ufo at the same time. So, this will be the first 5 quilt project of 2024.

3. shirt anvil - I have finished all the blocks and have started on sashing. This is my one monthly goal, again, in December, to make it to the top stage.

4.  sweet pea - is finished

5.  patriotic sail boat kit. I used a random number generator to pick this UFO. But, I am not thrilled with finishing this. - I gave it away

new number 4.  for 2024 -Hollow nine that I have been making along with the rainbow scrap challenge this year.

New number 5. for 2024 is rick rack nines, a bonnie hunter quilt

summary for 2023 - I have one left to finish by the end of the year - anvil- and, then, I start over in 2024. It has been an interesting year. I have finished more quilts than I thought I would. I have reduced the number of UFOs, and, I haven't started any new quilts. I hope to start the year with a plan to finish more quilting and UFOs.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

anvil again for one monthly goal

I finished all of the blocks for my anvil quilt last month for my November one monthly goal. I needed 80. This is an older UFO and I had 50+ done when I opened the box. It is part of my 5 quilt project

This month I want to assemble the blocks into a top ready to be quilted. I have sashed some of the blocks and started the rows. I love the shirt fabrics.

anvil monthly goal finish

My one monthly goal for November was to make the 80 blocks I needed for an older ufo - anvil blocks. When I opened the project box, I had complete 50 blocks. I spent November trying to do a massive cleanup for my daughter's visit, so, I went easy on the choice of my goal. And, I made it.

80 blocks

While, I was auditioning sashing fabrics. I decided on this vintage print. I've changed my mind twice. And this is as far as I went with that. I have decided to finish it, and hope, I will have it done by the end of the year. This is part of my 5 quilt projects.

some of the blocks have sashings added to them as well.

5 quilts November 20, 2023

 Last report October 23, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I have made some progress this past month. Each project has moved further along. This time of year, I am not as excited about the projects. The 5 quilt project has helped me stay on track and complete more than I had hoped. I have officially, not started any new projects this year, and, that has been hard. It is hard for me to find inspiration if I can't get all giddy about a new project. Although, with an aging memory, most of the UFOs are almost like new haha.

1.. strip tease pattern- I have begun rows. I will make 4 before I start the top. I have to find clever ways to motivate me to match all the seams. Christmas movies to the rescue.

2.. spoolin around leader ender challenge 2013 - The spools top is finished. I really like it and plan for it to be on my bed for awhile after the Christmas quilt is put away.

3. mini churndash - I have faithfully made a block a day since I pulled it out of the ufo closet. And I have an idea, now, on how I want to make the quilt. I want to mix my batch of 6 inch churndashes in and eliminate that ufo at the same time. So, this will be the first 5 quilt project of 2024.

A good quilty Lucy friend gave me a few mini churn dash blocks, so, that I can have her in my quilt, too. I love what she did. Her blocks always make me smile.

4. shirt anvil - My goal for November was to finish all 80  blocks. I am nearly there.

love the shirt fabric
5.  sweet pea - The top is ready for quilting. woohoo I have added it to the to be quilted closet and will drop it off the list

anvil blocks and one monthly goal

A new addition to the 5 quilts project is an UFO from not so long ago. I like making these blocks. I saw these blocks on Beth Shibley's youtube channel, and, wanted to make them with my shirting fabric.

When I opened the box, I found 50 blocks are complete, and, I wanted to have 80. I have 10 or more blocks cut and ready to piece. So, this month, as my one monthly goal, I want to cut and make the 30 more blocks I will need for a quilt. Here is where it gets tricky. I don't have a plan for a finished quilt. I was just happily sewing blocks.

off hand, here are some options for plain sashings

I don't know, yet.

moving projects

It is time to say - see you later- to an old friend. I am retiring this project to the the UFO closet. I have enough pieces cut, I think, but, all shirts go well together. I was hoping for 80 blocks and I have 52 finished. I need to concentrate on some "other" languishing projects to get a bit of organization and less chaos. I  want to move some projects out of easy to reach areas and spread out my current projects. I keep misplacing parts and pieces and really need to clean up and assess where I am. So, anvil is moving to the closet. I like sewing it.

And, this project is moving to the empty drawer after moving anvil. It has been on a tray all year as I am working on this project as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. But is is hard to keep organized on a tray anymore.

blossom time

neat and tidy

It looks like a mess, but, our beans are a new variety growing on a trellis, and, they are doing well, and, so is the squash that is taking over the garden, paths and all. In front of the raised bed are peppers.

progress

I have 5 quilts I am actively progressing on, but, every now and then, I slip in a few blocks for fun. I have been concentrating on my hunter's star blocks as leader/ enders. Each block takes 3 passes.

So, I have neglected my official leader / ender project -fish school/go fish. I have missed them. I did just a few so that they would not feel too abandoned.

I have been cutting  these in the rsc colors of the month. These are from reds, January.

soothing sewing

I just needed a little light sewing. It's easy to pick up some of my "growing" projects and just sew. I don't have to look for anything or read the instructions or scratch my head. And my pile "grows". I sure like sewing with shirt material. It feels so nice.

I need goals and plans, but, sometimes I just need some meditation sewing. I enjoy picking up 2 pieces of fabric and sending them through the machine.

recreational sewing

The more I concentrate on finishes, the more I need recreational sewing in addition. I haven't been in a hurry to finish these 2 projects. They are mostly cut, and all I need to do is sit and sew. They are not part of my goals to finish them yet. Other wedding ring blocks here
