stash report December 31, 2023

This is the last stash report for 2023. I am encouraged by an improvement in my numbers from last year. I added 27 more yards of fabric than I did in 2022 ( 2022 -141 yards) - wrong direction, but, not so bad. I used 302 yards more of fabric than 2022. In 2022, I used 133 yards of fabric more than I bought in 2022. But, this year, I used 381 yards more than I bought. That is a good improvement.

I added a beautiful batik neutral to my stash. I hope to use more of my stash and reduce. I really want to stop buying or bringing home. My home is bulging at the seams. I must keep reminding myself that I am working on ufos that already have the fabric I need in the project bag. This year I have been adding more neutrals which I am more likely to need with my projects.

I sewed 3 days last week. My sewing time has been a challenge. When my Granddaughter moved in with us, my room became impossible where everything was dumped to make room. And, I have not wanted to sew here at home anymore. I need to make this work. Hopefully, in the new year, I will organize and adapt.

I am working on a cross stitch sampler designed by Melissa at pinker n punkin - I think it can be found hereSquare number two is finished enough to move on to another frame for the 3rd square. It sure is cute.

applique quilt project

One of my Rainbow scrap challenges for the new year - 2024 is this older UFO. My hubby purchased this kit for me as a Christmas present a few years ago. I loved the primitive look. I have not really done much applique in my quilting life, and, I thought I would enjoy the challenge. Sadly, there are easier quilts to make, so, I did. It is on the bucket list of Ufos. I do want to finish it. My plan is to work on it as part of the rsc projects. There are many colors in the quilt for the months of color and I am sure the rest can be close enough.

I have 3 blocks finished and 9 to go.

anvil top finish

I finished all the blocks for my anvil quilt as my November One monthly goal.  My December goal was to finish it as a top.

I really love the shirting fabrics. This block has been a favorite. I can cut the hsts with my accuquilt. I can sew in short bursts. And, it comes out very nicely with an aha while pressing it. I think it looks classic and has a hint to an old vintage quilt.

Now, that my goal is finished, I will add it to the to be quilted closet. This quilt has been part of my 5 quilt project, which will start 2024 with all new Ufos to complete. I am itching to get started.

cutting a new quilt

During the in between time of holidays, I grabbed an older ufo that does not fit in to any category, yet. I had some fabric pulled long ago with making this quilt in mind. My plan is to cut, and organize it, and, then, let it go back to ufo status for awhile. I thought I would enjoy the cutting process with no pressure to finish it. The plan was hatched, when, my large green scrap drawer would not, could not close.

I dumped the whole drawer into a very large bag, and, took it with me to sewing group. I cut, and cut.
After, I would cut for the quilt, I would cut the leftovers into useable strip sizes. My strip bins are also full, but, the scraps take up much less room once they are cut. I don't usually cut in a social setting. But, it was very pleasant, and, I didn't make any more mistakes than I would have at home. The bag was heavy, but, I didn't have the weight of a sewing machine, so, it balances out the weight problem. I still need to cut the background, before, I can put it away. I did not take the background with me to cut, since, I thought I would not get that far. I cut up everything in the bag. I saved maybe 2 larger pieces to return as seeds for the drawer to grow again.

for the quilt

There are some good old oldies in this batch of cutting.

Have a very merry Christmas!

30s baby quilt start

Last year, for the rainbow scrap challenge, I wanted to include an older ufo baby quilt using 30s fabric. But, before I could start it, I put it in a safe place. And... it went missing. I just found it again. And I want to try again for 2024. Fingers crossed, I won't misplace it again. I think it will work for the most basic color months. And, it will have very little pressure to complete.

teasing a top

My strip tease quilt is a top. I began it in June with a quilting buddy It was part of my 5 quilt project. You can find the strip tease pattern

80 x 95
There were 432 Flying geese and 960 2 inch squares. = which equals a gazillion. I doubted my sanity while making it, but, I do like it, now, that it is done. It deserves a vacation in the to be quilted closet, since it is the end of the year.

5 quilts for 2023 is finished. And a new year to look forward to making.

antique tile blocks

I had found a tutorial for the antique tile block using charm squares at Suzies Scraps. And, I had made two blocks a year or so ago, and, I had a baggie of charm squares that I thought would work for the rest. I only wanted to do a donation quilt with them. I have moved them all around my sewing space, the last year, waiting for a time to finish the squares. I had the chance at an open sew, recently. It is small, but, I think I will stop and add borders.

churn dash goals

I pulled this older ufo out in September as part of my 5 quilts project. I had 78 mini churn dashes. I thought they were so cute, I would make one every morning until the end of the year, and, until, I found how I wanted to use them. How have I done? I now have over 250, and, I do have a plan for using them in the new year. Just using scraps, during clean ups, I could probably make a million more.

stash report December 17, 2023

I added a layer cake that is more of a blender to my stash. It was on sale. I am afraid to open the boxes from black Friday week. I have accumulated layer cakes this year. How do you store them? And make sure you use them?

sugar grove goal

I have decided that one of my 2024 rainbow scrap challenge projects, will be Bonnie Hunter's pattern, sugar grove. The rainbow scrap challenge has helped me with the boredom of bigger projects by keeping the work in manageable portions each month. I really like this quilt, but, don't think I would do it, without the monthly color prompts. The block requires sets of 5, 4, 3, and 2. I  have a drawer of leftover scrappy hsts that need a home, But, I am pretty sure I will need to cut for the larger sets, and still try to use the ones in the drawer as much as possible. I started this project earlier when the pattern first came out, but have done very little since.

I have gathered some sets concentrating on the sets of 5.

webbing each block will help them stay together until I can sew them.

I am using foam boards to make sure they are in order

So, now, I can hardly wait for January's color to be announced to see if this will work for next year.

old world finish

The old world fantasy mystery quilt from Quilted Twins. is finally finished. So far, the weather has been terrible for photos. Either, it is too gloomy or windy, and, there are always shadows. We moved around 3 or 4 times for this one, and, took the best we could. I think we are going to have to find a better way to get photos this winter.

The mystery is the only one I think Becky has done, and it was great. We started in 2020.

It was a top in July of 2020 and it has waited patiently for a turn on the longarm. It has had it's turn now as part of my 5 quilt project.

anvil rows

I had time at an open sew to work on assembling my anvil quilt. I still have some sashings that I am building in between other sewing. This is the last of my 5 quilts for the year, and, my one monthly goal is to finish the top by the end of December. I think I am on track to do that.

5 quilt December 11, 2023 last one for 2023

 Last report November 20, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I decided, in November, not to add any more projects to the 5 quilt project for the end of the year. I wanted to start over in the new year. So, this is the last report for the year.

1. strip tease pattern- the top is done. It is going into the to be quilted closet.

2. mini churndash - I have faithfully made a block a day since I pulled it out of the ufo closet. And I have an idea, now, on how I want to make the quilt. I want to mix my batch of 6 inch churn dashes in with them, and eliminate that ufo at the same time. So, this will be the first 5 quilt project of 2024.

3. shirt anvil - I have finished all the blocks and have started on sashing. This is my one monthly goal, again, in December, to make it to the top stage.

4.  sweet pea - is finished

5.  patriotic sail boat kit. I used a random number generator to pick this UFO. But, I am not thrilled with finishing this. - I gave it away

new number 4.  for 2024 -Hollow nine that I have been making along with the rainbow scrap challenge this year.

New number 5. for 2024 is rick rack nines, a bonnie hunter quilt

summary for 2023 - I have one left to finish by the end of the year - anvil- and, then, I start over in 2024. It has been an interesting year. I have finished more quilts than I thought I would. I have reduced the number of UFOs, and, I haven't started any new quilts. I hope to start the year with a plan to finish more quilting and UFOs.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

1. old world mystery - frame, basted, quilted, finished

2. full stop punctuation - frame, basted, quilted, finished

3. cheddar jubilee - lost

customer pause

4. crayon - frame, basted, quilted, finished

5. crab apple hill snow days, frame, basted

new 1 chunky churn dash

stash report December 10, 2023

I couldn't resist a 'mystery' layer cake from Missiourri star over the Thanksgiving sales. I can't say I am thrilled, but, it has a little charm.

stash report December 10, 2023

fabric added this week:  3 yards

fabric added year to date for 2023: 160 1/4 yards

fabric used:  15 yards- full stop finish

65 x 74 = 15 yards

fabric used year to date for 2023: 546 yards

356.75  yards used more than bought in 2023

I sewed 2 days last week.

They say starting is half the battle. With this little 'new to me' crosstitch is was a royal battle. I have had what I needed for almost 3 months, but, I did not want to start. While my daughter was home for Thanksgiving, she was very encouraging and helpful. And, I finally had my start. I cross-stitched a bunch for a while in the 80s and had a lot of fun, then. But, I had better eyes and coordination.

I rested a whole day after this little triumph- haha

The next day was more productive

I think I am ready to tackle this whole project. And I will be more relaxed and grateful.

full stop finish

I want to thank Angela at so scrappy for this fun quilt that is now out of the ufo closet and finished. I was able to quilt and bind it this week. Angela designed the blocks each month to coincide with the color of the month. I added words to make it a momento for me. Sew, I guess I don't have to make a label for it. All of the blocks were made using scraps from my scrap bins.

65 x 78 = 15 yards

This is my 27th UFO finish this year.

strip missing pieces

This is part of my 5 quilt project, I have been slowly building rows for my strip tease quilt. And guess who can't count? The problem with portable projects is that sometimes pieces don't make the transfers. I often find the missing pieces AFTER I finish the quilt, ususally, mixed in with something unrelated. LOL  But, I shall persevere. I can make the 14 missing flying geese and missing 4 patches, again. And, then, magically, I will be ready to assemble the quilt.

anvil again for one monthly goal

I finished all of the blocks for my anvil quilt last month for my November one monthly goal. I needed 80. This is an older UFO and I had 50+ done when I opened the box. It is part of my 5 quilt project

This month I want to assemble the blocks into a top ready to be quilted. I have sashed some of the blocks and started the rows. I love the shirt fabrics.

stash report December 3, 2023

December already, how? I bought this for the background of a quilt, without looking at the requirements first. It isn't enough for the project, but, I think it will still be useful. just like everything else. haha

fabric added this week:  3 yards

fabric added year to date for 2023: 157 1/4 yards

fabric used:  yards- 0

fabric used year to date for 2023: 531 yards

344.75  yards used more than bought in 2023  - I wonder what a picture of 344 yards piled together would look like.

I sewed 3 days last week. I have an open sew next week I am looking forward to attending.

I have packed up my rug and my hexie quilt, and, put them into storage until after my daughter's visit for Thanks giving. I am trying to do a big clean up of the living room.

I made some progress last week on my sock. I made it to the heel. And, the, promptly messed it up. I spent last week trying to get back a few rows with out losing everything. I am close. fingers crossed.
