stash report December 17, 2023

I added a layer cake that is more of a blender to my stash. It was on sale. I am afraid to open the boxes from black Friday week. I have accumulated layer cakes this year. How do you store them? And make sure you use them?

instead of skipping one, I skipped two.

I couldn't resist a 'mystery' layer cake from Missiourri star over the Thanksgiving sales. I can't say I am thrilled, but, it has a little charm.

I sewed 2 days last week.

They say starting is half the battle. With this little 'new to me' crosstitch is was a royal battle. I have had what I needed for almost 3 months, but, I did not want to start. While my daughter was home for Thanksgiving, she was very encouraging and helpful. And, I finally had my start. I cross-stitched a bunch for a while in the 80s and had a lot of fun, then. But, I had better eyes and coordination.

I rested a whole day after this little triumph- haha

The next day was more productive

I think I am ready to tackle this whole project. And I will be more relaxed and grateful.

December already, how? I bought this for the background of a quilt, without looking at the requirements first. It isn't enough for the project, but, I think it will still be useful. just like everything else. haha

I have packed up my rug and my hexie quilt, and, put them into storage until after my daughter's visit for Thanks giving. I am trying to do a big clean up of the living room.

I made some progress last week on my sock. I made it to the heel. And, the, promptly messed it up. I spent last week trying to get back a few rows with out losing everything. I am close. fingers crossed.

I found more neutrals while deep decluttering near my treadle sewing machine -which I still use. I hope to close it up for awhile and keep the sewing mess confined to the upstairs. I will miss sewing on it in the evenings.

I have a goal to add one strip of wool to my village rug everyday. Some days I add more. Sundays, I spend real time on it, and make a little more progress. I mentioned before that I am having trouble repeating the dye color for the background, so I am hooking a little everywhere on the background. I am moving around the rug and repeating the same spots to fill the background a little more.

I have another section of my village rug to work on to the edge. This is slow going with such a big border. I wish I had more progress each week to show, but, slow and steady....

I have been taking zzzzzzzzs on this - time to get back to it

stash report May 28, 2023

While cleaning my room, I found an unopened box from missourri star quilts. In it were a few neutrals and a fat quarter bundle of kaffe fabric. In my defense, I used to know it was there. I don't need the kaffe until the end of the rainbow scrap challenge year for my lucky stars quilt. So, I didn't hurry to open it.  But, then,.... I forgot it.  Such a lovely surprise to find while cleaning. No one likes to clean, maybe all quilters need to hide fun surprises in the mess to make it more fun. I think chocolate would work just as well.

I have started knitting a pair of socks. I was worried I wouldn't remember how since it has been so long. But, I found my stuff and my groove. I have the cuff done and I am trying a pattern on the leg, called long time gone. I won't know for a little while whether I am getting it right. I found this yarn buried in the floor disaster. I thought. I used to make socks all the time, why not again. The floor is clean, again.

blocking scarf

While my hubby was in the hospital for back surgery in early March, I started a scarf to pass the waiting time. It was nearly done by the time we came home. It has taken me awhile to get it blocked. I am always surprised by how much better a knitted piece looks after it is blocked.

I had hand spun the yarn a year ago and finally had a use for it. I like to spin better than I like to knit. I found the pattern here.

rug class

Day 2 of my hubby's back surgery recovery, and, I made a good start on a drop stitch scarf. I'm sure I have altered the pattern with a little boo boo here and there. It is really looking pretty good, considering I was interrupted every 20 minutes. And was bored easily.

I realized I haven't posted about a rug hooking class last week with a teacher from Noblesville that our group invited for a workshop. We are learning shading using her flower pattern. Our choices were purple or red. My kit is the red.

This is our teacher's rug, and, I really liked it. Maybe mine will look good too. I haven't worked on it much yet. We are still at the hospital, waiting to find a balance between pain and his blood pressure being too low. He is very uncomfortable.

just a little bit more...

The last of the spray painting on our house is done. We will probably be trim painting for years, but at least the wood is covered.

I don't think I have shown the finished knit the sky scarf I started last year at this time. Every day I checked the sky and knit the color that I saw. Read my post here. I started it as a knit along at church, but I am the only one who did it. 3 others bought the yarn, but I don't think they started the knitting. I enjoyed the process, and now it is time to start a new winter project. Socks are the easiest to start today.

I have cut some more glitter blocks from a new bag of scraps

and I have a finished 6 inch block for the cheddar sampler called tic tac toe

I bought the Friday fabric bundle at Fort Worth fabric studio with pink flamingos. I was in love with the cute little guys. I don't have plans for them, but had to have them.

I also bought a mystery fat quarter bundle, since there was a flat shipping price. I think these are great and would work for the rainbow scrap challenge of multi colored fabric for April. I certainly don't know how I will put them away into a color order.

More little bunnies are hopping in to visit. The yellow one is the size the pattern makes. I think he looks more like a ghost, so I am making mine a few rows shorter.
I have 7 Grandchildren so I will be working on these today as I watch General Conference. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will present a program at 9:30 am MST. They always lift my spirits and make my heart sing.

Floating stars

I just had a wonderful time taking these 5 fun Grandchildren to see Beauty and the Beast. We met up with them in Martinsville Indiana. I have missed them.
The movie was nice, but, I can't believe I am saying this, I like the animated version better - classic disney. The animated Belle was a better actress.

I have all the stars made for the floating stars quilt, and have started putting them on the design wall.
I have to add these 8 more
and these 9 more - these are the cutest 3 inch stars.
just for fun, I tried a pattern for little bunnies, by Salina Kyle
I had never made anything that made a pouch before on just one needle. The designer included catnip in the stuffing for cats, but I don't have a cat. The pattern is a ravelry pattern called Catnip Bunny.
