5 quilts november 29

 My 5 quilts progress report.

1.checkered past -The top is finished and I am preparing the backing and binding before it goes in the quilting pile.      And then, it won't be on the list anymore.   Here is a link to the finish top.

2. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge.

3. scrappy mountain majesties - I added a border to the scrappy quilt. I used chunks of leftover fabric from the top. Next I will find a back and prepare the binding, and send it off to the "to be quilted" closet. It's exciting to finish all the piecing on a quilt, but a little discouraging that I have so many yet to be quilted
This will be leaving the list too

4. boho heart -I  cut many 1 1/2 inch strips in neutral and made a hexie. I cut the background too small so I will have to add a frame.

5.full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.- I made the periods this week, but, I didn't join them until I know how I want to make them in the quilt. I am missing one of the months, but, I couldn't find it at so scrappy, yet. And, I just had an idea of how to make this simple quilt more complicated....sigh

In an effort to reduce my jelly roll population, I have added this jelly roll to my etsy store

My next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet

1. wonky courthouse - hunter - need to piece a back and prepare the binding - on the frame - quilted - needs bound

2. hourglass leader ender challenge - hunter - piecing the backing and binding

3, end of the rainbow rsc

4. row rainbow rsc

5. gray baby flannel

stash report 28, 2021

I have a thing for charm squares right now. If I am not careful I may be able to wallpaper every room in my house with them.

stash report November 28, 2021

Fabric Used this week: 0 yards

Fabric Used year to Date: 208 yards

Fabric Added this week: 6 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 156 yards

net fabric: 52 yards used more than bought - still on the plus side

I stitched at least 15 minutes 3 days this week. more cooking than sewing

I have really struggled to work on this rug hooking project. Once the friendsheep exchange began in my rug hooking guild, it was even harder. I just wanted to get started on the "new" thing. So, I asked my hubby to finish it, and, he had it done in no time. I, we, ( still negotiating) still have to turn the edges and hand stitch a back to it. I hope to get that done today for slow sunday stitching.

more full stop blocks

I have a few period blocks for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I am not joining them, until, I start assembling the top. I am still missing one row, but, I am not sure which one. I would like to see if I can keep going on this one instead of putting it in the ufo closet. But, rhododendron mystery at quiltville has officially started and I will turn some attention to that. I still want to keep going on my 5 quilt project, so, we will see.

I am looking at what I might want to make next year for the rainbow scrap challenge. I want to make a string candy quilt, but, I am not sure I have enough strings in each colorway.

I have at least decided that I am retiring my tiny houses to the ufo closet. I have 240 of them at 3 inches. I can make a small quilt now, or I can make more later for a bigger quilt. I have worked on them for 2 years and I am ready for a break.

I have moved the full stop quilt  and the color blocks quilts to the regular cue and not specifically for the rainbow

I haven't taken an account of the psp 20/21 blocks to know what I want to do. or crumb star blocks. I enjoy the clean up that can happen at the end of the year, as I put some projects away and make way for new projects.

I have been bad with the seasonal sales at Joann fabric and missourri star. There is no more room on the shelves for any more fabric, and I have enough scraps tucked here and there to last a life time.

Oh, one goal for next year is to eliminate 12 jelly rolls. I have started looking for quick patterns. Any great ideas?

checkered past top

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet. I did some fabric shopping on line for black friday. But, I sure don't like the shopping in stores on black Friday.

The border is underwhelming, but, it is a finished top. I used all the leftover strips that I had from the 2 1/2 inch checkerboard. This quilt used almost a whole bag of 2 1/2 inch recycled shirt strips. .checkered past  is a free pattern at quilted twins.

I have a back and binding ready to go and it will wait it's turn on the quilting pile.

recreational sewing

The more I concentrate on finishes, the more I need recreational sewing in addition. I haven't been in a hurry to finish these 2 projects. They are mostly cut, and all I need to do is sit and sew. They are not part of my goals to finish them yet. Other wedding ring blocks here

I am using recycled shirts for this quilt. Anvil

5 quilts November 22, 2021

We have spent the last few days cooking turkey. We decided to smoke one this year. I decided that if the price didn't drop below the price of a chicken, I wasn't going to buy it. We aren't having anyone for thanksgiving, so I would only buy one for the freezer. The price was good so Mr. Turkey is all safely gathered in for the winter. We have already had "leftovers" - sandwhiches - and soon, noodles. yum. I miss family thanksgiving dinners.

My 5 quilts progress report.

1.checkered past -The top is together and I am looking at border options

2. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge. I cut some more hsts last week and started putting them together. A few a day will keep the shark away.

3. scrappy mountain majesties -  I have the center rows together and I need to add borders.

4. boho heart -I am trying to concentrate on the blocks and strips I need for the first section of group 1. My section 1 is almost all pink and red. I am missing 2 blocks that I need to make before the whole section can be pieced. I did get this small section together at friday group

5.full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy - I made the dreaded question mark blocks.  all I need are the period blocks and I will be caught up with the blocks. I would like to get the top done before the end of the year.

My next on the longarm - I used a random number generator to make the list. I have 42 quilts I need to quilt.

1. wonky courthouse steps - hunter - need to piece a back and prepare the binding - it is on the frame

2. hourglass leader ender challenge - hunter

4. row rainbow rsc

stash report November 21, 2021

just a few charm packs to add to the stash. I think I feel like I have too much fabric, but, what harm could a cute little charm pack do....

I am counting this as 5 yards

stash report November 21, 2021

Fabric Used this week: 10 yards  I finished on the go quilt

Fabric Used year to Date: 208 yards

Fabric Added this week: 5 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 150 yards

net fabric: 58 yards used more than bought - still on the plus side

I stitched at least 15 minutes 4 days this week. Now that it gets dark outside, I find it harder to go upstairs in the evening.

I have really struggled to work on this rug hooking project. Once the friendsheep exchange began in my guild, it was even harder. I just wanted to get started on the "new" thing. So, I asked my hubby to finish it, and, he had it done in no time. I, we, ( still negotiating) still have to turn the edges and hand stitch a back to it.

I hand stitched a binding again for my on the go quilt. I miss doing the binding by hand. I just feel like I don't have the time. It just looks so much better. Which one are you? hand binding or machine binding?

aqua question mark

It's going to be a beautiful fall day here- Blue sky and sunshine but 32 degrees. We have no real commitments and can stay home and do some work. We had three doctor appointments last week -all is well.

I worked on the full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

I procrastinated the question mark block since the color was aqua. I finally have them made and ready to go. They weren't as difficult as I was afraid they would be for me. I think I am missing the dots, yet.

I sewed the orange 16 patches  blocks for the Debby Brown color blocks quilt along

I found this free quilt along with Debby Brown  from Alycia at quilty girl

I finished on the go quilt this week.

one monthly goal finish

This cute donation quilt is finished. I bought this as a kit a few years ago. I thought it would make a cute boy donation quilt. This is my one monthly goal for November too.

I had it to the top stage here  at the beginning of the month and now it is finished. I really like the fabric.

61x66

I hand sewed the binding  and sprinkled stars in the quilting

Our guild's annual donation night was Tuesday and we had many quilts turned in and were given to the police department and family services.

a few snails trails

I have neglected my sewing projects lately, and I wondered if it was because I need to do a little more recreational sewing. It has to be fun or who wants to do it. Setting goals is still a great idea until it seems like work. SO, I grabbed a bit of my work in progress sewing and made a few snails trail blocks using recycled shirts. I used all the pieces I had cut. It felt good to just sew.

still making easy breezy blocks in 1 1/2 in

We have harvested the last of the hot peppers. I sliced them and dehydrated them. They were noxoius. I was prepared with double mask and gloves - my favorite accessories haha. I have enough hot peppers for a long time.

5 quilts November 15

Hubby and I attended a small quilt show in Indy Saturday, It was a great little trip that put us in Indy. It has been awhile since we have been to the "big" city and it was a bit overwhelming. The traffic and massively growing areas were surprising. We hardly recognized the place.

We stopped at a quilt store that I enjoy, and I was sad to see the cost of fabric has really increased. There was no shortage of options, and the store was busy. Now that we are retired, we avoid most places on the weekend, so it was a little hectic to us. I am glad I have "curated" a stash to play with at home, and I don't feel the need to buy pricey fabric. But, I wonder what impact that will have on new quilters and the industry.

My 5 quilts progress report.

1.checkered past -All the blocks are together and I am planning a piano key border. I can use the leftover bits and clean up some scraps at the same time. The sashing acts as the inner border. no change at all from last week... none

2. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge. I am keeping up with a few each week. I had sewn all I had, so, I needed to cut some more. There should be 150 hsts in this stack = 50 blocks. The next time I cut, I will need to start with strips.

3. scrappy mountain majesties - I have all the rows done and I am starting to join the rows. There are a lot of seams to match - a lot

4. boho heart -I am trying to concentrate on the blocks and strips I need for the first section of group 1. Then, I can assemble them. In my quilt they will be pink and red.

5. tiger quilt - the top is finished and I am working on the back and binding. I like to have that all ready before I send it to the "to be quilted" closet. It is small 38 x 44.

so much fun.

My next on the longarm

1. on the go - donation quilt - is quilted- needs to be bound

2. wonky courthouse - hunter - need to piece a back and prepare the binding

3. hourglass leader ender challenge - hunter

5. row rainbow rsc

I added 4 basics cream charm packs to my stash. They were a great price.

Fabric Used this week: 12 yards   I finished lightening quilt

Fabric Used year to Date: 198 yards

Fabric Added this week: 5 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 145 yards

net fabric: 53 yards used more than bought

I stitched at least 15 minutes 3 days this week.

We have started exchanging our friendship rugs at my guild meeting. Everyone is using the same pattern. We each hook one sheep on each of the participant's rug. When we are done, We will have our own rug. This is my own rug. I didn't get the face of the sheep done before it was time to pass it on to another rug hooker. Carmen liked hers that I did in red plaid.

it looks like juicy fruit gum haha

Hubby and I made a trip to a quilt show yesterday. If I understood right, these quilts were all donation quilts for the mudsock quilt guild. It was an unusual arrangement. I do wish we could see the whole quilt. I enjoyed the quilts and hubby won a door prize.

I found a couple of quilts I want to add to the "maybe someday" list

boho fall

I am off to a quilt show in Fishers Indiana today. We have had cold rainy days, with one very nice day exception.  We have had such a pretty fall with yellow  leaves. Last year we didn't have much yellow. I don't know the whys and wherefores, but, I have loved the yellow this year. Most leaves are gone, but a few hang on a little longer.

I can share a few boho heart blocks today from our Friday group. None of these are mine. I may never catch up with the others.

Bohemian decor is a colorful, eclectic look with a global inspiration. It’s the style you might think of for an avid world traveler or a free-spirited flea market lover, as it tends to be full of an eclectic assortment of collected objects. Bohemian style features a fun mix of color and patterns, furniture styles, and unexpected decor—along with asymmetrical layouts. Boho style tends to be super casual and carefree, with a relaxed approach to styling.

lightening string quilt finish

I have a fun quilt finish. I saw this quilt awhile ago on Bonnie Hunter's site as she was working on it. At the time she called it crazy town.

I had a basket or two of strings, and it looked fun. I had the blocks ready to go soon enough.  I called it lightening.  I had the top ready, but, didn't finish it to see what Bonnie was going to do with it.

12 yards of fabric

I began in the Spring of 2019 and it is 72 x 80. I used a blue sheet for the backing and a scrappy binding. I did a free form bubble design for the quilting.

When it came up again on her blog, she had changed the name and the layout to shattered. I stuck with what I had. It has finally taken a turn on the longarm. I am glad to have this finished and off the list.
