top five posts of the year 2021

Cheryl has an interesting idea for looking back at 2021 and to share what we think are our best 5 blog posts for the year.

1. baby snoopy 5 /21

baby snoopy has the most views. My thanks to cynthia at quilting is more fun than housework for the pattern. I've made 3 and each one turns out great.
This was a rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. My thanks to Angela for the inspiration of the challenge.

3.Aunt Elizas star 7/31/21

Aunt Eliza's star is a classic block that I made with strings and crumbs. My thanks to Bonnie Hunter for the inspiration. I pieced the blocks on a trip to Florida.

4. bricks in the barnyard this one isn't even finished yet. It is a Bonnie Hunter pattern and an old ufo I have ready to be quilted.

5. ode to joey 9/5/21

This was the most personal quilt I have made. I had fun making the words as part of the  rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. But, the message helped me deal with a family loss and grieving. My thanks to an unknown quilter in Utah for the inspiration.

It is fun to look back over the last year and see that despite the long list of ufos I did actually make something haha.

My thanks to Cheryl of Meadow mist for the inspiration

5 quilts Deccember 27, 2021

 My 5 quilts progress report.

1. boho heart - I am working on group 2 first section in pink, but, at this point, I am dropping this project off the list to add it to my rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy list, since, I want to work on it in rainbow color of the month.

2. full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.- I made a multi colored word rsc and abbreviation for rainbow scrap challenge. I sure didn't want to make the whole words - eek

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter - I cut the pieces for clue 4. This was a good excuse to use my precious Debbie Mumm fabrics, but so sad to see them go.

4. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge.  I work on this a little bit everyday.  I am still making sets from hsts and 2 1/2 in squares. I think I will drop this off the list as well.

5.  too many circles - A free block of the month from  Little scrap which was open for 3 years in our town. Each month was a new Drunkard's path block to make. I had a chance at Friday group to get too many circles to the sashed stage. I like it so far. I want to get the inner border ready and sewn next.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet

stash report december 26 2021

The last stash report of the year - I hope you all had a merry Christmas. Ours was quiet

I am facing a scrap dilema. I am sure I have officially more scraps than yardage, but I can't find room for them or all the scrap quilts I want to make. They are piling up higher and higher. And it seems that the more I cut, the more there is. They are lurking behind every corner, under every surface, hanging from the ceiling. There is some in the garage, attic, and basement. Somehow, I must make a stand. I am just not sure what.  These totes are all scraps. If you go by weight there is 900 yards. Most of my quilts take 20- 25 yards = 36 quilts. I finished 18 quilts this year, but start to finish I might make 8. My scraps alone could last more than 4 years

embarrassing confession

wonky finish

I chose wonky courthouse steps for my December  one monthly goal at elm street quilts. I think this will be the last finish for the year. I have met my goal for the phd 21I started this in 2019 as a fun side project using my smallest scraps. Making this was very therapeutic. Bonnie Hunter is offering this pattern as a freebie and it is downloadable on her site. I pieced this entirely on my Singer treadle

80 x91 = 22 yards

I used a scrappy red binding and a flannel sheet for the back. It should be warm and cozy.

5 quilts december 20, 2021

 My 5 quilts progress report.

1. boho heart - woo hoo - section 1 and 2 in pink is done. I am planning on doing the part to the right next.

2. full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.- I made the date in red

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter - Clue 3 was made from the hsts from clue 1 and added wing triangles. Clue 4 looks like a stinker of a clue, but, it is next on the list

clue 3

4. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge.  I work on this a little bit everyday.  I am still making sets from hsts

I used a random number generator again , and this is the project that came up for my empty 5th spot.

5.  too many circles - A free block of the month from  Little scrap which was open for 3 years in our town. Each month was a new Drunkard's path block to make. I have the blocks made and I think the single blocks are for the border. There are 12 large blocks, so 3 x4 and I think I will sash them. There seems to be fabric in the box.

I have a box that has arrived from Missourri star quilt, but, I haven't even opened yet. just in case hubby needs a gift for me haha

But I am playing with fabric. I am still sorting through the crumbs and strings into baggies by color. It makes a huge mess but will help with a rainbow project for next year.

too many circles

This project is from 2012 when we had a local quilt shop in town. They held this quilt as a free block of the month. I had all the blocks at the end of the program done, but didn't decide how to put it together, so it went to the time out closet. I used a random number generator for this ufo project. It is time to make some decisions.

I apparently planned a sashing but there is no other piece of that fabric. There is a pretty aqua fabric in the box, that I might use.

I made these little drunkards path blocks for the border. I am using this Ufo as the 5th quilt in my 5 quilts plan. I am really looking forward to playing with this quilt again. I was really excited that I had attempted this classic block when it was offered.

5 quilts december 13

While I am sitting here, our youngest son, who still lives with us, has broken into a round of laughter. I love his laugh and hearing him happy.

My 5 quilts progress report.

1. boho heart -I am trying to concentrate on the blocks and strips I need for the second section of group one.

2..full stop quilt that Angela is doing for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.- I made another word in aqua

3. rhododendron mystery - hunter Clue two is half done and ready to finish

4. fish school - this is a year long project for the quiltville leader/ender challenge. I am still sewing the hsts I need for the next round of little fishies.

I used a random number generator again , and this is the project that came up for my empty 5th spot.

5.  minuet mystery -missing instructions. I pulled fabric for it so I counted it as a ufo. I decided since nothing was cut, this is not the time to make it. I pulled it out of the ufo closet and put it in the maybe someday category. And a quick finish of an old ufo

I added the fabric back into the stash

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet

Joann had jelly rolls 30 % off with an additional 20% and I like using their neutrals. Although, they are not accurately cut.

I have to remember that there are only 20 strips per roll

rainbow scraps in aqua

I have added a new word to my rsc project. I had forgotten how much I like to make letters. I use Lori Holt's alphabet book.

I am trying to prepare for next year and a new rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy project. I want to do strings and crumbs by color so I have started sorting the big bucket into colors. I was afraid  I wouldn't find enough of each color, but, alas, I have plenty. And some have already been sorted into baggies. If I do a little every day, I may have it sorted for the new year.

I have a few easy breezy blocks I made this week. I was doing one every day but now its sporadic with new projects.

rhododendron and scraps

I cut and pieced the second clue of rhododendron mystery quilt this week. It doesn't look like much, but it was a lot of cutting and piecing. And I was off with my numbers and didn't have enough to finish the opposite colorway.

I did cut the rest of the wings.

I have been cutting scraps again. I can't take much of a break from scraps or they will overpower me.

I have a few ideas for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy next year that will use strings and crumbs.

10 inch -1 pound 4 ounces

2 inch and 1 1/2 in - 4 ounces

5 inch -1 pound 5 ounces

2 1/2 in -9 ounces and 3 1//2 in - 6 ounces

3 pounds and 3 ounces = 9 yards  = 90.00 dollars Well worth saving the scraps.
