I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.
This has been a frustrating round of 5 quilts. The quilts were easily finished, but, none of them, were inspiring to me. I am questioning the method. Yet, I know, I have finished more ufos than any other way I have tried. I was disappointed in not finishing quilts from my "to be quilted" closet. Because, I could just as easily keep the longarm busy with my finishes from 5 quilts. All the projects should change now. I hope it is a better mix of piecing and finishing.

I made progress on girlie garden at my Saturday open sew with my quilt guild. I needed to trim all the blocks before I could start piecing the rows.

I still can't find my 60 or so hsts in green for fish school. All I have left is a picture of the strips I used to cut them. sad... I hope they are doing fine wherever they are.
I am off for a sew day today, maybe the mojo will be there.
kristals is a top. They are brighter than in the pictures. I took the photo at the library. It must be noted, as part of the friendly competetion between Linda and me, I was 4 days ahead of her in finishing the top. And, yep, since I am her longarmer, Guess who will win the finished quilt? But, I love her version, and mine.

It was so exciting to start making the blocks for an older Ufo called hand me down. I didn't pay any attention to matching fabrics. I wanted to see how different combinations would work. I must confess, I didn't wait until all the flying geese were done... I just couldn't.
so fun |
Geese are flying here, as I make the units I need for an older Ufo called hand me down. This is top of my list to finish. But, making flying geese takes a lot of patience and time. I decided I wanted them accurate, so, I went with the deb tucker's instructions and template called wing clipper. They are much more accurate, but, I have more fun if I "fly" by the seat of my pants with rectangles and squares. haha
I added 2 new layer cakes. I have very little editya sitar fabrics and I love all the colors in a kona pack of colors.

I made 35 nine patches using 2 inch strips for a quilt called diffusion. I am only using 4 -5 colors to make the nine patches. This was the first time the color of the month was one of the colors for the rainbow scrap challenge.
I am surprised that this quilt is larger than expected. I thought it would be a small lap quilt, but, it is a good size lap quilt. Scrappy pinwheels is a top. I really like the pattern and revisiting older scraps. Hopefully, it will get a turn on the long arm soon.
I started it in 2018 cutting the pieces and sewing some flippy corners. It went into the ufo closet for a vacation.
I made it a goal here in February as part of the 5 quilts project. It has been a delight to work with it.
My version of the pattern here
I cut a quilt kit here from shirt fabric. I would be glad to sell the cut kit for 30.00 plus shipping.

Once, I started cutting shirts for scrappy pinwheels, there was a cascade of shirt related cutting. Ohio stars was an easy decision. I have the accuquilt go die. I need a 5 1/2 inch strip of shirt to cut one block. So, While I was going through the box of shirts, I cut what I could get from a shirt in that size. Once I had been through the box once, I started cutting with the die. It wasn't until then, I checked my list of ufos, and, found I had a project box already cut. hmmm And then, I found another box of 5 1/2 inch strips labeled "to be ohio stars" hmmmm.
No problem. Ohio stars are a classic and easy block that can be a study in fabric combinations. LOL And I love the look and feel of upcycled shirts in a quilt.
I have started working on a new UFO ( hand me down) for my 5 quilts project. I had 2 finishes last week, and, that means it is time to choose replacement projects.
As always, when I open a box that has been in the ufo closet, I need to assess what is there, versus, my notes. My notes said everything was cut. I don't think so. And, it took, some sleuthing to figure out that I cut the flying geese pieces to use deb tuckers ruler and wing cutter. Now, where did I put that?
2018 |
I really like working with upcycled shirts and my head is wanting to wander to other possible shirt projects.

I have a weakness for charm squares, I know I can cut my own, but, they seem like little mysteries to me. And, with the higher prices, these days, If I can find them cheaper...... I don't always resist.

First taste of green scraps for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made three hollow 9 blocks for my quilt project.
I dug through my 1 1/2 inch green scraps and cut sashings for my garlic knots ufo.
I made hsts for fish school in green.
I have a finish. Twisted braid is ready to gift. I drew this ufo number for my 5 quilts earlier this year, just about the time, I learned my new Grandbaby will be a boy. perfect timing

I have been sewing rows for my scrappy pinwheels quilt. The center is done and waiting for borders. I think I will keep it simple.

Most of these have been posted, but, I need to move on with new projects. I feel as though I have been staring at the same list for forever. I know projects take time, but I tend to veer off if it takes too long.

I found these beauties on the free table at quilt guild. The key fabric is 36 inches, so is vintage. I am planning a patriotic quilt... someday, so, I keep a look out for red, white, and blue. I am collecting floral scraps, too.
