5 quilts October 31, 2022

And just like that- October is over. My goodness, it was fast. I have had a swollen sore thumb and have not felt like sewing for a week. It will be 3 weeks before the hand doctor can see me. That gives me a time line. One or two days before the appointment, it will be miraculously cured. haha

last report 5 quilts October 17 , 2022

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

1. rhododendren mystery - Bonnie hunter - The center is together and the 2 side pieces are together. It is just a matter of sewing the pieces. no change

2. Boho heart - I am working on section 3

3. dotty bow ties-  The bow tie blocks are made. I am slowly adding a sashing to the center of each block, 10 at a time I have 40 finished. I ran out of sashing pieces and need to cut more before I can continue. These are so fun.

4. circa 1880-  More about this here. I have 8 rows sewn together, which is halfway. I think all the rows have been made. I have 2 more sets of three ready to add to the mother ship.

5. blue ridge beauty - back and binding - ironed - on the frame - quilted - bound- finished

new #5. scrappy twirl -back and binding - I need to re iron the top and add it to the longarm frame. - quilted -trimmed

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

1. lotus flower? I don't remember this -I have decided not to quilt this one. I added it to my etsy store

1. ugly I spy - I don't want to finish this one. I am donating this one or using it as a back - I will put it in the backing pile and see if I use it.

2. frolic mystery -back and binding - ironed

Stash report October 30, 2022

yes, there is more fabric coming to live here. I am preparing a little for the quiltville mystery quilt next month. ok not really but, it sounds better than I just like buying pretty fabric.

Stash report October 30, 2022

fabric added: 4 yards
fabric added year to date: 125.5 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 202 3/4 yards

I sewed 2 days last week.

I have a very sore/swollen thumb, and, I can't hook right now, or, do much of anything. I really like the idea of opposable thumbs. anyway, I thought I would show a rug made by Pam from a recent hooking guild meeting.

and, I am one, and, I wonder if I could make it.

green zipper

I am adding some green to my zipper blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I cut a few and then when I started piecing, I decided to match the centers with all the previous cut zippers. I had a fun morning sewing them into strips and sub cutting the twosies for the centers. This year, I have about 60 cut, and, I think I want to cut some more next year during the rsc challenge.

and a few dotty bow ties

Best news is that I finally had a finish this month - Blue ridge beauty

blue ridge beauty finish

blue ridge beauty is finally a completed quilt. I have tried all year to make this a priority in finishing this huge quilt. It took several days to free motion swirls on my longarm. Binding was delayed because my trusty older bernina that I use for binding, stopped working, and, hubby had to spend a couple of days to uncover the problem. I knew he could do it, and, he did. I made blue ridge beauty my one monthly goal for October...again. And this is my 12th ufo finish for PHD 2022.

98x107

27 yards

It has some great old fabrics and shirts in it, and, was definitely from a time when my piecing was still getting better. But, it is a soothing, lovely quilt that will live on my bed for a long time.

This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt called blue ridge beauty from her book adventures with leader and enders. I took a class with Bonnie Hunter in 2014-2015 in Indiana

Ufo decisions

I was looking at my UFO list in an attempt to just delete some. I thought I could give them away and/ or find someone who might want to finish them. My list included one called 16 patch. I didn't remember it, so, I dug it out of the closet.

It was just coordinating scraps in strips, mostly. There was enough to make 20 -16 patch blocks. I decided I would not make this. I have plenty of other ufo projects to last a lifetime. I have to be ruthless, and start reducing the herd.

I decided to take it to guild and put it on the free table. But, to the matchy matchy quilter, these were just "scraps". I thought I could cut them first to make them more appealing, and I did. But, I had a feeling no one would want my poor scraps. sigh... I decided to make one block to show what potential was there. And, then..... that was fun, and, then,..... I started making blocks and more blocks.  now what?

and then there were 4

5 quilts October 17, 2022

Someone suggested that I move, a quilt to be quilted, into the 5 quilts, and, I thought it was a brilliant idea, so, I will drop the rainbow scrap challenge as part of 5 quilts.

blossoms

With light green as the color of the month for October and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I thought it would be a great time to work ahead on the stems and leaves for blossom time. I cut the pieces

And sewed the stems and HSTS.

And trimmed the pieces

And a few blocks.....

It doesn't look like much, but, it took awhile.

friday group and bunnies

One of my 5 quilts ufos is this little bunny quilt I started a few years ago. I opened the box, recently, and, discovered fabric and bunny blocks. At my Friday group, I used a jelly roll to make the solid sashing and a matching fat quarter bundle to make the squares sashing. I have the perfect border fabric for it in my stash. I wanted this for a baby quilt.

Judy surprised us with a finished boho heart top that is gorgeous. Now, I am the last one that needs to finish.

Judy's boho

While we were meeting, an older  quilter ( nearly 100) from guild popped in to leave some scraps. She is cleaning out ( it never ends) her stash. Everyone else took a piece or two, and, then, I brought the rest home for a fun adventure. How can something so innocent make such a mess when it gets to my house?

zipper it

I am trying to sew some of the zipper blocks that I cut earlier in the year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I was digging around in the blues. I cut the lime greens for the month of October, too.

I added another round to the snails trail blocks just for fun.

And what a fun find at the Indy quilt show from Jennifer at wednesday wait loss. I was so excited to see her name. It was lovely up close and personal. I didn't get all the way through the quilt show. We were a bit tired and called it quits a little early.

dotty

I'm seeing dots. These are almost addictive...if there weren't so many. I like the secondary pattern, but, still think I will add another sashing when I join blocks. I make a few of these almost every morning. This was my choice for Bonnie Hunter's first leader/ender challenge. All I did was make the little bow tie blocks. Now, it is time to make a quilt top.

bow tie blocks are 3 1/2 inches

so fun

I really liked the yummy scrappiness of this quilt from the quilt show this weekend. I forgot to take pictures of the cards. sigh....

stash report: October 9, 2022

I bought muslin for my shirt quilts and a fun jelly roll of stripes in bright colors. I know I have muslin somewhere in my stash, but I can't find it. Where does it go.

Stash report October 9, 2022

fabric added: 8 yards
fabric added year to date: 113.5 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 175 3/4 yards

66.25 yards used more than bought.

It is border time on my witchy rug: spellbound. I dyed a bit of wool in orangey/gold. I also set a binding strip around the edges so I can hook up right to it. Most of the hookers in my guild, like to roll the edges, and, wrap wool yarn around the roll. I find it tedious, so, I use a binding made of wool. It does get a bit unwieldy in the corners, but, I can then just hand sew it to the back and be done with it.

I sewed 1 day last week. Instead of Friday group, we went to a quilt show in Indy. I bought a bag of fabric there, that I haven't gone through, yet. We saw this one on the way to the restroom, so it was the first picture. We were on a mission.

circa rows and more rows

I have been sewing rows for my version of circa 1880 quilt. I believe I have used many blocks from each of the swappers already for this quilt. I am pretty sure I have many more than I will need, maybe enough for another quilt of some sort.

I lost count on one row haha

This looks about the size I want, but, I won't know until I actually sew them together. I have to figure out how to finish the ends.

So far, the rescue itty bitty is doing great. And seems to be attached to my hubby.
