dotty bow ties finish

Dotty bow ties is done. My first finish for the year is the first quiltville leader/ ender challenge from 2011 - 2012. This year, when the new leader/ender was announced, I decided, rather than start a new project/quilt, I would go back, and actually finish the ones I have already started. I have started each new challenge over the years, but have finished two.

72 x 72

12 yards of fabric

I used as leftover dotty fabric for the binding

I used 2 larger pieces of pink for the back. I free motioned circles on the longarm.

If I continue finishing the leader/ ender UFOs, spools would be next from 2012- 2013. I know I have many many spools made and ready. If I remember right, I may have swapped with others on that block. I would have to wait for an opening on the 5 quilt list.

dotty bow ties almost top

I only have 2 more rows of dotty bow ties to add to the quilt. I am almost there. hooray

It is time to prepare for next year's phd progress projects. I had to chuckle when quilting Gail said if you have at least 12 UFOs, make a list. It guarantees my participation for many more years. How many? I fear, longer than I will live at this point. Is any one honest about the number of UFOs? I tell my friends one number, and my lists say another, and then, there is the husband number.... oh well, just keep sewing.

I had a fun year last year focusing on the UFO finishes. I hope to do that again in 2023

dotty progress

I did a little Christmas sewing, and, I have three rows together of dotty bow ties. I have a few more sashings made for adding more rows.

It was a cold, quiet holiday. I had most of the food bought early, so that was not a problem. We spent the- too cold to do anything (-10) - time watching Christmas movies. It was fun. We didn't get to see our family. bummer. It was too dangerous for this old couple to be out and about. We are now at a balmy16 degrees with a slight dusting of snow and a few drifts from the wind which was relentless.

bow ties progress

Dotty bow ties has been sewn into foursies. There are 8 in each row, so I am getting closer. I plan on adding sashings between rows.

My quilter friend Linda made this great  scrap quilt during our Friday sew. It uses 2 1/2 inch squares. She says it is a pattern in the scrap school quilt book. If there really was such a quilt as a scrap buster, this would be a good candidate.

Hope everyone is busy with Christmas plans and happy times.

bow ties

I have been working on an old ufo, leader and ender challenge. It has every color in it. I started making little bow tie blocks for the 2012 quiltville leader/ender challenge. It has been on vacation a long time. All the blocks of 4 have been made, and I sashed each one on the side.

This week, I made twosies.

zipper it

I am trying to sew some of the zipper blocks that I cut earlier in the year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I was digging around in the blues. I cut the lime greens for the month of October, too.

I added another round to the snails trail blocks just for fun.

And what a fun find at the Indy quilt show from Jennifer at wednesday wait loss. I was so excited to see her name. It was lovely up close and personal. I didn't get all the way through the quilt show. We were a bit tired and called it quits a little early.

dotty

I'm seeing dots. These are almost addictive...if there weren't so many. I like the secondary pattern, but, still think I will add another sashing when I join blocks. I make a few of these almost every morning. This was my choice for Bonnie Hunter's first leader/ender challenge. All I did was make the little bow tie blocks. Now, it is time to make a quilt top.

bow tie blocks are 3 1/2 inches

so fun

I really liked the yummy scrappiness of this quilt from the quilt show this weekend. I forgot to take pictures of the cards. sigh....

stash report: October 9, 2022

I bought muslin for my shirt quilts and a fun jelly roll of stripes in bright colors. I know I have muslin somewhere in my stash, but I can't find it. Where does it go.

Stash report October 9, 2022

fabric added: 8 yards
fabric added year to date: 113.5 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 175 3/4 yards

66.25 yards used more than bought.

It is border time on my witchy rug: spellbound. I dyed a bit of wool in orangey/gold. I also set a binding strip around the edges so I can hook up right to it. Most of the hookers in my guild, like to roll the edges, and, wrap wool yarn around the roll. I find it tedious, so, I use a binding made of wool. It does get a bit unwieldy in the corners, but, I can then just hand sew it to the back and be done with it.

I sewed 1 day last week. Instead of Friday group, we went to a quilt show in Indy. I bought a bag of fabric there, that I haven't gone through, yet. We saw this one on the way to the restroom, so it was the first picture. We were on a mission.
