stash report december 18, 2022

I am afraid that too many pieces of fabric have found their way into my stash, lately. With all the holiday shopping, they are hiding, until, I can properly sort through it.

I did get a picture of a jelly roll and some mystery fat quarters. The fat quarters will be great for finishing my crown blocks. The jelly roll are solids called sunroom. They are pretty colors that are different than usual solid colors.

fabric added year to date: 141 yards

fabric used year to date: 274 yards

133 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 5 days last week.

I soaked and set the yarn I have made recently. It is a fun process. I love seeing the colors soaking in the water, and, then, I squeeze them in a towel to dry as much as possible. I hang them to finish drying on a hanger and add a weight to "set" the twist. They look so happy hanging together. It makes me smile.

I don't have a project for the yarn, yet.

stash report December 11, 2022

My quilt guild's Christmas party was last week. We played a pass a yard of fabric game and the aqua floral was what I took home. The fat quarter was the prize I won. We had a pitch in for food and it was so yummy. There are just some favorites that I only get at a potluck.

I sewed 7 days last week.

I did a little more spinning. This was a purchased 4 ounce braid of merino wool roving. I hope to work on it some more today for slow Sunday stitching. It is very slow and peaceful spinning. And gets my mind off of goals and deadlines. I need to dye more wool to start with a new -old project for rug hooking.

I bought another neutral piece for my boho heart quilt. I am using these colors as the background.

I sewed 6 days last week.

As I was cleaning a pile of stuff, I found a bit of fluff, and thought it had been a while, since, I had spun anything. I always enjoy the process. I find it soothing and relaxing. I need to make some time for this again. I could pack it all away, if, I don't actually spin anything. Once, I do, I am hooked again. I dyed this wool, and carded it a few years ago.

I added a few pretties to the stash. I spend too much time on the computer buying fabric.

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week.

I have some spinning I want to do today for slow Sunday stitching. I did get last week's yarn "set" and drying this week by soaking it in warm soapy water. And rinsing in two more soaks of plain water. It's important to not agitate or twist but press the water out of the yarn. Then I rolled it in a towel and hung it on a hanger with another hanger at the bottom for weight.

handspun wool

This yarn is one of our sheep to shawl wool yarns. We bought a dirty wool fleece and washed it several times. Combed it, carded it, and spun it. It is more of a white cream than the picture shows. There should be enough in a fleece to make a sweater, but, that is still a long way out for me. Any way, I plan on working on it a little at a time to make progress since there has been so much work invested so far. I think we bought the fleece in 2015.

the only changes I am making to my stash report is to add fabric. I really like scrap bags and I added 3 more to my stash. These were an eclectic mix. I should be able to separate them and actually use them.

I stitched at least 15 minutes only 3 days this week.

But, I have started spinning again in the evenings on the weekends. Spinning  wool is very relaxing and even biblical.

to do

My hubby had surgery yesterday on his back. The surgery went well, but, he has had a few issues with his blood pressure and has made pain medications wonky.

His surgery was about 6 hours.
I had a waiting room all to myself.

I spent my time tracing bunnies for an Easter quilt.

I started to knit a scarf using yarn I spun myself.

Last week's to do:
1. bind sand castles - done
2. put Linda's quilt on the longarm - done
3. blog one monthly goal - done
4. make materials list for March workshop - done

next week's to do:
1. go home from the hospital
2. rainbow row by row in teal
3. border pieces for frolic mystery quilt

stash report October 14, 2018

At our guild quilt show, we had a garage sale area. I purchased several scrap bags, and these fat quarters, and a home made jelly roll.

These 2 1/2 in strips will make a great donation quilt for the vet's home.

Most of my handwork is at a crossroads, so I started spinning a little bit. The wheel and I have a rhythm going, and I am ready to ply today. The white is a fleece we have cleaned and carded ourselves.

stash report July 15, 2018

One of the stashes I need help corralling, is finished quilts. I want to be able to see them without worrying if they are ok. I have been keeping them in a big pile in the corner of my bedroom.
So, when I found this curio cabinet at Goodwill, I was thrilled. It works just like I want it to work in my space. Truth be told, I might need many of them.

Many Sundays, I enjoy spinning and making yarn. I started the year with a 2 pound batch of dyed roving, and officially, it is now, all spun. There should be enough yarn to make a sweater. But I haven't planned that yet.

I had a chance to dig out blocks for glitter quilt, and I started putting them into pairs. It was so fun to see them again.

And for slow and steady stitching today, I have a binding to hand sew. I look forward to that.

Stash report February 17, 2018

It has been awhile since I ordered from Missouri star quilt company. There have been so many very pretty precuts on special, but I have so many I haven't even opened. I needed thread for the quilting the planet quilt, and there just happened to be a charm pack special, so I clicked the add it to my cart button. It was a day when you could order more of the daily deal than the usual one. I bought 3 charm packs of crystal farm by Edyta Sitar and a mystery charm pack sandscapes chips in green.

I have been slow Sunday spinning and after several weeks, this is the result. There is about 500 yards altogether in eggplant. I am setting the spin after a good wash. I love to see it hanging there looking like real yarn. I still have a pound of this roving to spin, and I will be working on it a little every week.

Stash report February 10, 2018

I made a few more string units for birch trees on string Saturday.

I spun more natural dorset fleece for spinning Sunday

and yesterday I quilted a customer quilt.

and spread out a new mess looking for a navy background for my rug hooking project- Uncle Sam's hat. And, before I knew it, I had decided to sort and measure all the blue wool. It was so much fun petting the wool and thinking of all the projects I want to make, but, sorting wasn't even on the to do list anywhere. Now I have to add 'put it all away' on the to do list.

And I am late with last week's stash report

Stash report January 7, 2018

note
I ended 2017 in the hole 8 3/4 yards for my fabric stash report. I finished enough quilts and gave away 90 + yards to say that I used 354 1/2 yards of fabric.
I purchased or brought home 363 1/4 yards of fabric and I didn't really have any place to put it. So some of it got sent to the attic to live. How sad. I would like to say I will do better next year at not buying or adding fabric. But that was my intention last year. I am a sucker for a great deal. Most of my fabric was a big sale, or with coupons, or thrift store finds. I really hate to let fabric feel unwanted and unloved. BUT..
If I used 350 yards of fabric every year, I might have to live 350 years to use it all.
But I will start the year with a clean slate.

Still a little bit of dyeing going on

All of my sashings are made for on ringo lake mystery quiltville quilt. I am still making my way through making the blocks. I am at 23 out of 50. I am joining in with Kate on making sure I sew at least 15 minutes a day. and so far this year I haven't missed any days.

I have plans to spin today. I am spinning a home processed dorset fleece. As you can see there is still alot of vegetative matter in the yarn, but it will get better when I ply two strands together.

The fleece is very white, strong, close and free from dark fiber. Fleeces average 5 to 9 pounds (2.3 to 4.1 kg) in the ewes with a yield between 50% and 70%. The staple length ranges from 2.5 to 4 inches with a numeric count of 46's-58's.
So it should be very soft yarn.
