one monthly goal

I can't believe it is September already. And it's time for choosing goals for One monthly goal at elm street quilts. This is the month I am going to finally finish On Ringo Lake mystery quilt.....I hope.
After finishing the top last month, I had a few places I needed to flip the sashings. This pesky little guy was nearly in the center of the quilt. Fortunately, he was a lone wolf taunting me, and not part of a series of flipped pieces.

I plan to stay with the mystery quilts, and finish good fortune mystery quilt as well.

I am behind on swap blocks, and the rainbow scrap challenges as well.

one monthly goal finish

At the beginning of the month, my one monthly goal for August was to get On ringo lake mystery quilt to a top. and to have all the garden party blocks finished and the chaining blocks started.
Here is the top. When I put it together, I discovered that there was a mistake on the center row, and I had to take it apart and redo the sashings in the center row. At this point, I have one more sashing near the center that has to be flipped.

I finished all the garden party blocks, and I cut the strips for the chaining blocks.

more exciting news..
My orchid is blooming. I have had it a couple of years, and was beginning to lose hope it would bloom again. It is just lovely.

ufo 2019 edition

Patchwork times has an ufo challenge for 2019. I have enjoyed using some sort of ufo motivation for my quilting these last couple of years. She suggested 12 of them. I am sure my One monthly goals will also use help finish these projects along.

A couple of years ago, my daughter and 3 other quilty friends exchanged houses every month. It had to be before I was blogging since I can't find any reference to them here on the blog. They were to finish at 4 inches but could be anything and any fabric. It will be fun to get them out and look at them.

2015 Allietare! - needs borders and so on
2013 celtic solstice just needs quilted

on ringo lake is in blocks and I have a corner pieced. Just 2 weeks ago, I moved my sewing cabinet and discovered sashing pieces behind it. I would have been beside myself, if I had not found these before working on it again. Even now, I worry that I will forget to get them back to the project box.

I did a second version of Grand illusion using Denise Schmidt  fabrics. I have it assembled minus the borders.

2016 En Provence civil war - needs quilted
lucy's basket  was another swap project with my daughter.

garden party
smith mountain morning was  a workshop with Bonnie Hunter in Lafayette Indiana. I have all the blocks finished.

I am adding two new quilts to the list

a little this and that

I have been making progress on several quilts, but no noteworthy pictures, that don't look like several pictures I have already posted. I did finish clue 3 of good fortune but will post that on Monday with the link up at Quiltville.
I did some mindless string and crumb piecing last night, mostly to clean up a mess. I string piece on a treadle in my living room, and it's time to make it a little more holiday worthy. But there were some strings hanging out on the cabinet that I could just play strings.

I did look back and see what I was working on in 2017 - Ringo lake, and it was orange, too, as is the new clue for good fortune today.

and in 2016, I was working on En Provence and purple.

ringo lake setting triangles

I decided not to piece my setting triangles for On ringo Lake mystery quilt. So I used the Fons and Porter setting triangle ruler to decide how to cut them. The color is mostly consistent but the prints will be different.

I used a paper template as Bonnie suggested to cut the end off the triangle

Luckily, the edges of the pieced unit fit the cut out of the setting triangle.

So that part of the clue is finished.

I added the sashing for the first row

And then the block just to see... How lovely.

webbing ringo lake

I am happily webbing the blocks for on ringo lake. A little everyday and, eventually, I will be finished with this part.I am more than half way.

I have filled in with some glitter blocks. I know I am reaching the end of this quilt soon. I have over 100 blocks finished.

ringo lake trim

oops -Something isn't right. I want the 1/4 inch edge where the flying geese meet with the shaded patch. Each of my flying geese were trimmed to size but I didn't trim the unit. On ringo lake seems to be taking forever to make 50 blocks.

Yep that is it. I evidently had a batch that was a little too big and was taking it out on the edge. silly goose.

I have tried to remember where I was on the patriotic boxy stars. I sewed 2 rows together to move it along. I have really been focusing on ringo lake and let it slip right out of my mind.

carolina mystery

My personal goal is to finish all the Quiltville mystery quilts while Jo of  Jo's Country junction is finishing all the quilts in the string fling book. I count 17 quilts, which is more than Bonnie usually puts in a book. I would prefer to concentrate on them in order. Since that would be the oldest. Here is a list of what I have and need to do. mystery #1 is Carolina Crossroads from 2007. It was on the website first and then included in Bonnie Hunter book Scraps and shirttails. The top and first border are done and I am auditioning borders.

I don't use batiks very often, but I wanted to jazz up the quilt a bit with them. Still I am inclined to go plainer. batik lovers what would you do?

Still making a block or two a day of on ringo lake for clue 8. I have 26 - more than half way.
I have the sashings done for part 9

I have discovered that if I put the wings on my glitter blocks, I can finish a ringo block using each as leader/ ender for the other. I add a wing and then, sew the whole column one. Do the second wing  and chain the whole column 2. I add a wing  and I put the first row together. And the last wing and the second row. For awhile I put 2 sashings units together to remove both glitter block and ringo block from the machine to press them and add them to the pile. The sashings are done so I need to cut and work on the finishing pieces to use at the end of the chain.

Stash report January 7, 2018

note
I ended 2017 in the hole 8 3/4 yards for my fabric stash report. I finished enough quilts and gave away 90 + yards to say that I used 354 1/2 yards of fabric.
I purchased or brought home 363 1/4 yards of fabric and I didn't really have any place to put it. So some of it got sent to the attic to live. How sad. I would like to say I will do better next year at not buying or adding fabric. But that was my intention last year. I am a sucker for a great deal. Most of my fabric was a big sale, or with coupons, or thrift store finds. I really hate to let fabric feel unwanted and unloved. BUT..
If I used 350 yards of fabric every year, I might have to live 350 years to use it all.
But I will start the year with a clean slate.

Stash report

Fabric Used this Week 0 yard
Fabric Used year to Date: 0 yards

Fabric Added this Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 0 yards

Net Fabric for 2018: 0

Still a little bit of dyeing going on

All of my sashings are made for on ringo lake mystery quiltville quilt. I am still making my way through making the blocks. I am at 23 out of 50. I am joining in with Kate on making sure I sew at least 15 minutes a day. and so far this year I haven't missed any days.

I have plans to spin today. I am spinning a home processed dorset fleece. As you can see there is still alot of vegetative matter in the yarn, but it will get better when I ply two strands together.

The fleece is very white, strong, close and free from dark fiber. Fleeces average 5 to 9 pounds (2.3 to 4.1 kg) in the ewes with a yield between 50% and 70%. The staple length ranges from 2.5 to 4 inches with a numeric count of 46's-58's.
So it should be very soft yarn.
