A finish for February

My one monthly goals for February included the finishing of this quilt. It is celtic soltice, a quiltville mystery quilt from 2013. I have had it pretty much ready for quilting since then.

I had thought I would do a celtic quilting on the quilt, but, opted in stead for the big swirls in a cool gray color.

And for a backing I used a bit of the shamrock - don't you know. While making it, the green was very overpowering green, but, with the blue borders it calmed the colors. I like that it makes large circles as a secondary pattern.

See my other mystery finishes here

This was a finish for the 2019 finish along. My list is here.

I finished all 30 blocks that I am doing every month for my swap partners for our version of the circa 1880 quilt.

I had hoped to get the border on the Christmas snowflake quilt. I did, and, I also pieced the backing, and prepared the binding. It's ready for the longarm.

February one monthly goal

For February's one monthly goal, I want to quilt a quiltville mystery quilt called celtic solstice. I have had this quilt pieced since 2014. And, I have had it on my top ten list to finish every year since then. It didn't happen. Last year, I made a commitment to myself to finish all the mystery quilts, and it is time for this one. I thought I had binding ready for it, but, it's not with the quilt. So, either it is lost in a black hole, or I remember wrongly.

I have our version of the circa 1880 quilt block swap to make this month. I need 30 blocks.

I have a border coming for the Christmas snowflake quilt and want to get that on the top for February. I will be teaching it in March for the guild, and it will be good to have it all finished.
And I have at least 4 quilts I am working on for the rainbow scrap challenge. This month the color is yellow.

As part of my template challenge, I have the top all finished using the scrap crazy template. I am calling it tic tac toe.
I used the leftover blocks as the border. I cut them in half and added them to the outside.

I found a backing that I liked and I prepared the binding.

I can stick this quilt in the quilt closet and wait for a time to quilt it.

good fortune - more

I have been assembling rows for my good fortune mystery quilt at Friday group. It is mindless work with a big impact. I need mindless to keep up with conversation and of course, to throw my 2 cents into the fray. I sure enjoy the company.
I am always a little nervous at the assembling stage. What if I don't like it, or I didn't get it right at some point. But, there is also the giddy excitement as a new block is added and it grows.

And it grows...

And it grows...

I am thrilled. From the picture, it looks like I have the 4 patches right. And, I like the colors. I don't think my quilting friends are convinced yet. For them, it might be a bit bright.

I have been working with celtic solstice, too, and the colors are very similar.

I have just finished orca bay, as my 12th mystery quilt. All of them have a special page here. I have 6 left to do, which includes 2 repeats of my own colorway, that, I was just sure I had to do as well. Every new one is my favorite.

rug hooking and finish along

I am joining in with the 2019 finish along at She can quilt. I have several goals for the quarter. Some I have already mentioned in my one monthly goal post, But this is for the quarter, and should include what I want to completely finish in the next 3 months.
I have it in my mind to get my Cleveland rug done. I think background goes quicker than the design, And I am making good progress.

For the quarter, I also want to finish the fish jar quilt

orca bay mystery quilt

celtic solstice

and a flannel rag quilt for donation
and find my cutting table again ( definitely no picture) ( and will it ever be completely finished?)

ufo 2019 edition

Patchwork times has an ufo challenge for 2019. I have enjoyed using some sort of ufo motivation for my quilting these last couple of years. She suggested 12 of them. I am sure my One monthly goals will also use help finish these projects along.

A couple of years ago, my daughter and 3 other quilty friends exchanged houses every month. It had to be before I was blogging since I can't find any reference to them here on the blog. They were to finish at 4 inches but could be anything and any fabric. It will be fun to get them out and look at them.

2015 Allietare! - needs borders and so on
2013 celtic solstice just needs quilted

on ringo lake is in blocks and I have a corner pieced. Just 2 weeks ago, I moved my sewing cabinet and discovered sashing pieces behind it. I would have been beside myself, if I had not found these before working on it again. Even now, I worry that I will forget to get them back to the project box.

I did a second version of Grand illusion using Denise Schmidt  fabrics. I have it assembled minus the borders.

2016 En Provence civil war - needs quilted
lucy's basket  was another swap project with my daughter.

new one monthly goal

It's time to plan my goals for November and Elm street's One monthly goalI shared my progress yesterday on orca bay and the unicorn quilts yesterday I am hoping to work on them in November.

For November I want to quilt celtic solstice mystery quilt. It is finished and ready to quilt. I have the backing and binding ready to go. This will be one more quiltville mystery for my challenge this year.

And, as a just get it finished project, I am working on an old ufo. I had bought 10 fish jar blocks from ebay when the jar quilts were a trend. I didn't think about how hard 10 blocks would be to set in a quilt. It has plagued me every time, I decided to work on it. There were solutions, of course, but I didn't realize I would be ocd enough to want 12 blocks to match. sigh.. This time, I have a plan.....which I will share later. I think it will be cute enough for one of my Grandson's.

My lists

I have lists. Sometimes, I follow them as if they were a treasure . But, Sometimes, I ignore them and perhaps hide them ( although I think they walk about on their own). My favorite list is on the computer using a program called trello. I love it because I can make it a visual list, and I can arrange the lists side by side. I visit it a couple times of day, just to be inspired.

There is the magic of moving a "card" from one list to another. For instance, when the planning is done, I can drag it and drop it in the cut list. When the cutting is done, I can drag it to the sew list.
I try to keep the working part of the lists small with just a few tasks. But the dream side of the list is chock full of inspiration.

The UFO list is arguably too long, But, maybe someday list is even longer. When I see something I like visiting around the internet, I add it to the list. It makes me a very happy girl to scroll through and think I might someday make these beauties. And occasionally, a maybe someday moves to planning. Oh happy day. Most of my pictures are from where I find them. So I want to share a few and hope that squares with copyright issues.

next to be quilted ( all finished and ready to be quilted): butterflys
Easy street - Bonnie Hunter
celtic solstice - Bonnie Hunter

The top on my maybe someday list :

from Em's scrapbag. It bounces from here to planning a lot, which means I really want to make it, I just can't fit it in just yet. But the Spring colors, the scraps, are so appealing right?  There is more than one of Em's quilts on my maybe someday list. Hooray for Em.

My Grand children and I also visited the Soldiers and Sailor's monument in downtown Indy. What a testament to courage and bravery. It had popped up into my radar again when my daughter mentioned that she had just met the Grandaughter of the man who built it. In Utah. at a quilt meeting. Small world.
But the biggest sign of bravery here - My husband proposed to me here in 1974.

We visited the eskenazi sky garden fo another view of the skyline.
