wool runner finish

My Friday finish is a wool runner from 2013. I decided not to quilt it. I finished the floss work and attached the backing. I gave it a good press with a wet towel, and, it is lovely, even if, the grass is not. The wool in the kit was hand dyed in beautiful vibrant colors.

13 x 48 inches

wool lady table runner

The next Ufo on my 5 quilt list to do, is a table runner. I bought the kit at a quilt show in Ohio a hundred years ago.

I bought the kit from wooly lady in 2013. Most of the applique was done when I opened the box. There is still a little floss work to be done. The colors are gorgeous, the pattern was really nice. I spent a small fortune on the kit, I don't know why I didn't finish it.

I decided I will just pillow case the gorgeous backing to the front, and call it a table runner. I am not going to quilt it. That is probably the reason it has sat unfinished for so long.

I went to the website on the back of the pattern and it is no longer there. I googled it, and found there might be something on facebook.

Stash report November 27, 2022

I bought another neutral piece for my boho heart quilt. I am using these colors as the background.

Stash report November 27, 2022

fabric added: 1 yards
fabric added year to date: 135.5 yards

fabric used: 7 1/4 yards

fabric used year to date: 224 yards

90.50 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 6 days last week.

As I was cleaning a pile of stuff, I found a bit of fluff, and thought it had been a while, since, I had spun anything. I always enjoy the process. I find it soothing and relaxing. I need to make some time for this again. I could pack it all away, if, I don't actually spin anything. Once, I do, I am hooked again. I dyed this wool, and carded it a few years ago.

so pretty

tada - yarn

stash report June 5, 2022

I found this in a box on my desk, and, I don't know if I have counted it in yet. I don't think so.

There is orange and purple batiks and a white jelly roll and lots of surprises.

I have some hand stitching to do on my friendsheep rug, but, I have to trim and press first. I haven't gotten to that yet, But, I did put another rug on the stand, that I can work on slowly in the mean time.

I started it here in March while I was waiting for my sheep rug to finish with the other swappers. I have been adding legs and feet and a barrel. She is a fun little witch.

maybe by halloween?

I bought a yellow peony 2 years ago and this is the first bloom. I was afraid she was not happy here. She was ready a little after Memorial day, The pink peony was a little late too.

stash report May 29th, 2022

This is the little batch of scraps that someone handed me at quilt guild last week. I love that Other quilters think of me as a safe home for their scraps.

I have the border finished on my sheep rug. I have it pressed and flat. I need to zig zag the edge of the extra linen and trim. I will take the black "binding"  and turn it under and hand stitch it to the back.

Our oldest Grandchild graduated high school this weekend. We are so proud of him and his family. His Dad ( my oldest) is  on the far right.

Stash report May 15, 2022

No changes in or out on my stash report. We have been busy in the garden. We have added worms to the garden, counting on the little wrigglers to make compost out of garbage.

We have buried 5 buckets in different spots in the garden and we will see if we can get a better soil. The price  of most garden supplies has jumped at least 20 percent, especially fertilizer.

Stash report  May 15, 2022

fabric added: 0 yards

fabric added year to date: 49 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 128 yards

I sewed 1 days last week. Again,  I didn't even go to friday group sew.

I have started the border on the friendsheep rug. I have added a black wool "binding" all around so that I can hook to the very edge. I am using recycled white and black wool on the border.

happy Mother's Day. I will see One of my children today with my great daughter in law, and 7 of my Grandchildren. Happy day for me. I will spend primary hour at church with 7 and 8 year olds and mother them all I can. They are such a cute age.

The big piece of fabric is 108 wide. And the fabric rolls were 1 1/2 inch strips that I need for 2 different projects.

stash report May 1, 2022

There has been no real change in the stash numbers. I have been busy nesting for Spring. We are starting seeds for the garden, making some meals ahead for the busy days ahead, working outside to get the garden ready for planting. And, this year, that takes most of our energy. I haven't been in my sewing room all week. I did go to an open sew yesterday and worked on three projects - fair and square, maple leaves, and boho heart.

I have started harvesting our weeds and started the dehydrator. Dandelion flowers and violets are great for skin health. I use them in skin creams and soaps. Dandelion leaves are good for digestion, and blood sugar, cholesterol. They are a bitter for salads. The root can make a healthy drink.

This is a new weed to me this year - great name- purple dead nettle. Who doesn't want to eat that? It is good for the kidneys, is an anti- inflammatory. Information says it is sweet tasting. I haven't tried it.

stash report April 24, 2022

I added some fat quarters to my stash and 2 charm square packs. The fat quarters were floral, but have very "blendy" colors. The charm packs are light neutrals that are always needed.

I started the background for my friendsheep rug. I was happy with my third try at a blue sky, and started the hooking. It is a little darker than the picture shows. So glad to work on this rug again. Although, I haven't decided on the border, yet.

I have new fabric from Missourri star. Yes, I hang my head. The one on the right is a 3 yard 108 wide piece. The charm squares were a gift.

fabric added year to date: 32 1/2 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date: 116 yards

83 1/2 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 6 days last week. I have rainbow scrap challenge projects inspiring me.

I started the background for my friendsheep rug.  I thought I needed a couple of clouds and a sky. I have been dyeing the blue sky background, but, I have had 2 misses. The first one had a slight green tint but, I thought I would use it anyway. I hooked a little and it was thinner than I thought, and I didn't like the color. I dyed another batch and it was too light blue, mostly still cream. Third time will be the charm.

We have lost a lot of trees to wind this winter and spring.

stash report April 3, 2022

I had a Friday group sew, and, I didn't have a project ready, so, I grabbed a scrap bag and my stripology ruler, and, I started cutting. I always have questions from others about my scrappy cutting and using. It seems a mystery to them. How do I store? how do I use? how do I make all those different colors go together? etc. One of my best quilting buddies saves scraps, too, but, in squares, not strips. I would prefer strips, and, I would be happy to cut them into squares when I need them. Otherwise, I am the happy recipient of scraps from those who don't want to figure all that out. Most of my guild is new fabric and matchy matchy quilters. I am too frugal - thanks to my Dad.

always fun to open a new bag of treasures

2 1/2 - 3 1/2
2 1/2 sq - 3 1/2 sq and a pile of strings/crumbs
I also cut 2 x 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2

5 - 1 1/2- 2 - 2 1/2- and a pile of triangular pieces

I started the background for my friendsheep rug.  I drew some clouds and I decided on green grass under the sheep. I had a small piece of this Spring green wool that I could use. I dyed some wool for the blue sky and did not like it, so I will have to try again.

I have a few more odd skeins of cotton yarn, I might make some more.  Luckily someone sent me a link for the homeless initiative https://www.soapsacks.com/

new wool

I still love rug hooking, but haven't been able to sit for very long at a time to actually hook. But, if we can't do, we shop. Yep, I bought more wool.
The gold is a hard color to find and really important for fall projects. I have a thanksgiving rug and a scarecrow that will use it. The cream with lines is for a snowman on my snowman rug. I want every snowman to be different.
The Left cream color is actually a sparkle, and next to it is a speckle. They will be great for a snowman.
I bought the purple and green for the scarecrow.

I have slowly hooked another snowman that I think is just wonderful.

I started the rug here and other snowmen here and here and here.
