midnight flight top

The top is done for  midnight flight. hooray!

I finished the borders last week. The borders fit perfectly. I am pleased with how well all the pieces fit together.  Since I have emptied my 'to be quilted' closet, I can put it on the longarm frame immediately. I am on track to finish the quilt this month for my one monthly goal.

midnight flight borders

I am inching toward a finish for  midnight flight. These are the cornerstones for the borders. I have two borders made, and, I just finished the last two. So far, every Bonnie Hunter pattern I have made, the pieced borders fit perfectly. Hopefully, I will still make my one monthly goal of a finish by the end of the month. Every day, I try to do some part of the process, in keeping with my energy level. I had not cut the cornerstones, when, I cut and started the pieces for this quilt in 2016, and there wasn't any extra pieces of the fabrics in the box. I knew I could use all the pieces from my stash except the cheddar ( the beauty of a scrappy quilt). It took me a minute to find a suitable replacement for the cheddar since it was a constant.

scrappy twirl

Finally, there has been some movement on my scrappy twirl quilt. I added it to my 5 quilts project in March. I started assembly, but did not have a finish in mind, so it has spent a lot of time on a design wall. I cut pieces to create a line at the end of each row.

this is my plan so far

stash report December 15, 2024

I was tidying a little bit... ok, I was looking for something, and was 'forced' to tidy a little bit. I found a large box of fabric that had not been folded or measured, and completely forgotten and buried. These pieces are less than a yard but at least 1/2 yard. I added the neutrals to my stash and I did locate what I was trying to find.

it is an eclectic mix

 stash report December 15, 2024

fabric added this week: 0 yards

fabric added year to date for 2024: 102 yards

fabric used: 0 yards

fabric used year to date for 2024: 673 yards

571 yards used more than bought in 2024

I sewed 2 days last week. I made and added a side border to my midnight flight ufo. It wasn't hand stitching but definitely slow for Slow Sunday Stitching. I need a new hand stitching project.

yellow tiny tuesday row

I was short 2 blocks for the yellow row for my tiny Tuesday sampler. This an older Rainbow scrap challenge sampler from 2019. I attended a guild open sew Saturday for a couple of hours, and, I was able to finish the row. Yellow is my favorite color in general, but not always in quilting. I do think it is a bit of sunshine in a scrappy quilt. I have 3 rows done, and 4 or 5 to go before assembly. If I could just focus a little better, I could get it done. Sewing has stalled on my midnight flight ufo, since, it looks like I don't have enough border pieces.

stash report December 8, 2024

Another jelly roll has found it's way here. I use a lot of neutrals each year, and I might as well stock up for the new year. We have had bitter cold weather here.

fabric added this week: 3 yards

fabric added year to date for 2024: 102 yards

fabric used: 0 -I didn't have any finishes this week, my quilting closet is empty. I tried an open sew yesterday, but I just didn't focus on my ufos in progress very well.

fabric used year to date for 2024: 673 yards

I sewed 2 days last week. I went to an open sew for a little while. It was good to see everyone.

I have tried to add a few strips of wool every day, hoping that it will eventually help finish this wonderful rug. The Christmas tree is a fun diversion.

I have chosen simple ways to participate in  light the world with love for this Christmas season. I have many reasons to be grateful this year. I have shared  my love with friends, donated canned goods to a food bank, chatted with a friendly stranger at radiation therapy, played games with my family.  Hope you can find ways to share your heart with others. And thank you all for your wonderful comments and thoughts this year. Quilters are the best.

Jos checkers assembly

I don't have any finishes this week, but, I am still trying to tie up loose ends for my rainbow scrap challenge projects this year. Each month, as the color is called, I have made 2 vertical rows of scraps for the quilt I have called jos checkers. I have 18 columns. I didn't finish the greens during that month and need to sew them. I have started the colors design layout. I am not sure if I will have the top ready yet this year. If not, I will continue by sewing rows by color and month in 2025. I laid it out on my bed, and realized it is bigger than I thought. I may alter the size.

red tiny tuesday sampler

I had one block to finish for the red row for my tiny Tuesday sampler. I started this in 2019 as part of the rainbow scrap challenge. I had a few blocks that were not finished.  I pulled this older ufo out of the closet as part of my 5 quilt project. Here is the pink row.

As part of light the world I have been thinking more about how to be more aware of others at this time of year. I donated canned goods to a food bank, and made muffins for the really great ladies at my radiation treatments.

5 quilt November

 last report November 1, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

I emptied my 'to be quilted' closet this month. I started the year with 34, and they are all quilted. That is such a relief and very freeing. Hopefully, now, I will just be ready to quilt any UFOs I finish, when I finish them. I am still planning on doing the 5 quilt project next year to finish older ufos. I have chosen 24 projects randomly. Seven of them, I will pretend are starting something new, even though, there has been some kind of work on them. Five of them just need assembly of the blocks, and the rest need piecing work.

I finished 4 ufos in November

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs.  I did finish both of my goal ufo quilts this month and emptied the closet.

1. Lozenges 11/24

2. split nine patch 11/24

83 x 96

3. country roads is finished

90 x 90

4. baby 30s is finished

54 x 54

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. midnight flight - was my one monthly goal for November was to finish all the star blocks. This month, I assembled the quilt to the inner border. The outer border is a pieced border, and then, I will finish it this month, fingers crossed, as my  my one monthly goal for December

2. scrappy twirl no new progress and it is still hanging on my design wall.

3. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks and start the rows

yes, a pig

4. charming stars - needs sashing and assembly

baby 30s finish

I worked on this quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this year. It was a fun and easy addition to the year. Baby 30s was also a part of my 5 quilt ufo project. I was able to make the blocks and sashings and finish it in one year. I know I could have finished it much quicker, but, carrying it out the whole year made it very relaxing. Before, it went into the ufo closet in 2021, it was all cut out and ready to start. That is one of the blessings of working on older ufos. I usually don't call them an ufo unless they are at least that far along in the process. This quilt played hide and seek with me last year, but I found it.

54 x 54 = 8 yards

charming stars

As I get closer to the end of the year, I am not sure how I will finish my 5 quilt ufo project. I have one quilt I think I can still finish. I have 4 others that are in progress. I want to start with new- in the new year, but, with so many projects in progress, I feel the need to carry them over into the new year.

If I remember right, I found all these 6 inch squares in a scrap bag someone had given me in 2020.

I have 16 squares made, and it has bubbled up to the 5 quilt project this month. I just cracked open the ufo project case.

I saw this on Brenda at songbird designs and it is me going to radiation therapy every morning.

one monthly goal for midnight flight

My one monthly goal for November was to finish all the star blocks for an older ufo called midnight flight. I did that by the middle of the month.

Then, I moved on to making rows.

Toward the end of the month, all the rows were finished.

After the rows were assembled, I added the inner border. The outer border is a pieced border. I have all the individual units pieced, I just have to make the borders. Hopefully, next month, I will finish it. The longarm is now empty as I have finished all the quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.  And then, I will have something else to blog about.

So, in summary, I guess I met my November goal.

stash report November 24, 2024

I thought for a whole minute that I would participate in Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt this year. I haven't started anything new, and, I have had a brave year. In that minute, I bought 2 fabric pieces for the quilt. Now, I am remembering all the bonnie Hunter quilts I had to finish this year and the ufos I still have, and, now, I don't know.

country roads finish

My last official quilt in the 'to be quilted closet' is finished. hooray. Country roads is a free pattern that I started as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I made the blocks in each month's color. in 2020.  The top was made, ready to quilt, in 2021. This year as part of the 5 quilt project goals, I was determined to quilt my closet quilts. Each month I chose 2 specific ready to quilt, quilts to finish before any other ufo goals, and it has made a big difference in emptying the closet. I had no idea I could get so many done in one year. Now, whatsoever will I do with my quilting time 😉 The blocks were made with 1 1/2 inch scraps and the setting squares, and borders, back and binding were all from my stash as well. As a reward, I bought some fabric - you bet

90 x90 =25 yards

rows for baby30s quilt

Beginning in January, I used my baby 30s quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge, and all the blocks were finished by November. It had already been in the ufo closet since 2018. I finished all the sashings and, this week I joined the blocks into rows. I still need to make the 4 patch sashings between rows and as borders.

moving along

We are excited to have the giving machine again in Indianapolis Indiana ( clay terrace). Last year, it was the first year here, and we had so much fun using it. We donated fresh produce to gleaners, sheep and socks to 3rd world countries. There might be a giving machine in your area. There are over 200 world wide. I hope you will check it out at giving machines and light the world.

more midnight flight

I have been sewing rows for my midnight flight Ufo. I had 1 row done last week from a Friday day with my quilting buddies. Making all the star blocks was my one monthly goal for November, and I have exceeded that to this point. I may still have time to finish the top before the end of the month.

It's that time of year again when our community has the "we care" trees in the mall. Every year, for years, our community has sponsored decorated Christmas trees. The trees are sold at auction, and, the money is donated to We care charity for Christmas charity giving. At this point, mostly only businesses can afford to buy the trees and display them at their businesses. We have visited each year and it is very inspiring for the Christmas spirit.
