sheep pillow

This is  an old rug hooking/ needle punch project that I have not finished. I took it with me to rug hooking along with my featherweight, and sewed it into a pillow. I used a pillow form from Goodwill for the stuffing. Besides the cute sheep, I liked the project  since it was hooked on a wool fabric instead of a typical rug hooking backing. Before I start a new rug project, I am trying to empty the unfinished drawer. I still have 2 or 3 bigger projects in the drawer to finish.

I like that is a two sided pillow with the front and back of the sheep. He is soft in person.

it is so cute now, at least cuter than when it lived in the drawer. I am trying a new flower this year - black eyed susan. It seems to be happy and viney which in turn makes me happy.

progress

This seems like a small accomplishment for my sea swept quilt, but, I have made a decision to cut new blocks for the sashings and trim down to the right size. These 2 blocks were made using the exact measurements. They are not bad but a little small. I need 56 of these blocks for the quilt I am making.

Our guild had an open sew and charity quilt workshop Saturday. I took my accuquilt and tumbler die for cutting through donation fabrics. Somehow my die was broken and we had to suspend the cutting. sigh... I've never had that happen before, everyone thinks it was their fault. I wasn't in the room, but, I don't think anyone was at fault. It really doesn't bother me. I just wish we could have gotten more cut for the donation quilts.
I had a few minutes to work on carolina chain. I sewed most of the blocks into sets of 2. And I have a couple sets of 4. fun

It looks like a beautiful Monday here in Indiana and we have "chores" to get done.

stash report June 27, 2021

I added a new bright layer cake to the stack. I really want to add a solid quilt to the list of quilts I want to make. Any ideas?

tiny houses

Tiny houses to sew, big house to clean for my daughter's visit next month. Purple is the color for June rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, and one of my favorites. But, there has been so much going on, that I haven't even pulled all the purple scraps out to look at them.

I lost my resolve to sew 2 easy breezy  blocks each day. I made 3 for the week. I need to cut more after a thorough counting of what is in the drawer.

otherwise, I have been gardening, and preserving, and decluttering, and cleaning.

waffling

I started working with my sea swept sashing blocks. I ran into an either or decision that has  me paused. Either, I make the economy square with actual size pieces, and use up triangle pieces already cut, or, I cut new oversized pieces and trim down to the right size.

So, while I am waffling about that decision, I made more waffle stamp blocks. Pun intended.

Each block is a surprise when it is finished. I enjoy that. I have made a huge dent in the 1 1/2 inch strip and squares bins.

moving on with sea swept

I have all the snails trail blocks finished for sea swept. And it was time to figure out how I was going to make the sashings without a pattern. The actual pattern is for paper piecing, and my blocks are machine pieced and larger than the pattern makes.

Linda's 3 and mine

I remembered a template I have from studio 180 and I could even find it... hooray. But, I wasn't sure how to make it a double square in a square. You tube told me,   I needed the technique sheet with a chart. While I was purchasing, I watched how to make winding ways? and I thought I would buy the diamond rects as well.

So, I have started cutting

And this is all the easy breezy blocks I made last week. Far from my intended goal of 2 per day.

stash report June 20, 2021

Happy Father's Day! I married a good one. He was right in the trenches with me. He changed diapers, cleaned up yukky things, went to all the events, held them, carried them, taught them. He was right there with me. He was better with them in the night - I was a zombie. And so far, he is good with all my fabric.

And I have some new treasures. They were on sale.

Green fairy had mystery honey buns and I love honey buns.

I found these hooked chickens in my ufo drawer that need a back and a finish. I will be hand stitching the red piece to the back to make potholders for Slow Sunday Stitching.

postage stamp blocks

Not many rainbows here. I haven't been sewing much. I did finish Aunt Eliza star top this week. When I realized I had very little to show for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I tried to quickly sew a few psp 20 /21 blocks for the color purple.

I have 57 blocks finished. I was thinking that if I sash them, I won't have to match seems. But, I have seen so many postage stamp quilts that are really great without sashing. what to do... I guess I will just keep making them until I decide.

I have been spending more time outdoors. It has been really nice here. My daughter is coming home in July and I have a massive clean up I need to do. I have gotten very lazy. I just haven't found places for all my quilting "stuff"

sheep bag

My finishes for this week, are my attempt to finish rug hooking ufos, which have accumulated just like quilt ufos. This is one of the first rug hooking projects I made in 2010. I didn't even know how to finish anything yet, so I didn't finish it. It has been sitting waiting patiently. I decided to make a zippered bag. When I sewed the bag pieces to the hooked piece, I could only get so close, so I needed to hook another row.

I made the bag at a retreat using the tutorial at noodlehead

I cut the lining wrong and didn't have any extra of the fabric with me, so, I visited the free table, and found a new option.

I also finished a rug hooking chair pad. I had a little bit of the last border to hook. I turned the edges over and hand stitched a piece of wool to the back. I added a little cotton batting to the inside for a more comfy pad.

I bought this kit on ebay

this is a One monthly goal

I have one less hard chair in my dining room.

Eliza is a top

I am happy with the top of Aunt Eliza's stars. This was my one monthly goal for May. Which I didn't get ready on time. It turned out larger than I expected. 82x 92. My favorite part is the border. I am not sure where it came from, but, I know it is a vintage piece since it was 36 inches wide. And it is so cute.

It was so windy that I almost didn't catch a shot of it before it rolled itself into a ball.

It is time for this quilt to live in the "to be quilted" closet. It's embarrassing how many quilts live there.

falling charms

I sewed the rows at retreat, but after joining several rows, I realized I had turned a block wrong. That is when I stopped for the weekend on this project. I came home and took the row apart and resewed it.  I still have 3 rows to add to the top. Once one block is wrong, the rest of the row is based on the wrong one and the whole row has to be redone. The fabric is really wild and beautiful, and, this is not like anything I have ever done. I was a missourri star kit. They buy the fabric squares from free trade organization.

sea swept progress

At retreat this weekend, I sewed the last 4 blocks I need for sea swept. I ordered studio 180 template for the sashing. I think it will save me the headache of math "to fit" what I have already made. I have the squared squared template. I ordered diamond rects. hooray.  I still have many cut pieces - I may make it larger.

There is always something scrappy going on at the sewing machine. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book addicted to scraps called Carolina Chain. I had the blocks done in April.  I use them as a back up portable project. So, after finishing what I need for sea swept, I started working on this project at retreat. I started joining rows which are set on point. That was too confusing for a chatty retreat, so I started sewing all the blocks into twosies.

how many times do you count blocks in a row

stash report June 13, 2021

I attended a sleep in your own bed retreat this weekend and there was a free table. I haven't had a chance to count what came home. ( I was really really tired). Unfortunately, the table was on the way to the restroom, and, right next to the food. I remember, I found purple, and florals which I was looking to add to my stash. My table buddy was a good girl for her stash, but, kept bringing me fabric she thought I needed. haha

I can always use neutrals

and blues

retreat top

We had a sleep in your own bed retreat yesterday and will have one today. My main project to work on was my ode to Joey quilt. I worked on piecing the rows and joining the rows. I plan on using it as a visual aid for Church class on Sunday. I made the words according to the color of the month for rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. It is a rectangle the wrong way, so, I need to figure out what I want to do for the top and bottom.

I have 3 quilts left to work on today while I play at quilting. The food was great as a pitch in. The company was fun and there was a free table. what's not to love.
