stash report June 20, 2021

Happy Father's Day! I married a good one. He was right in the trenches with me. He changed diapers, cleaned up yukky things, went to all the events, held them, carried them, taught them. He was right there with me. He was better with them in the night - I was a zombie. And so far, he is good with all my fabric.

And I have some new treasures. They were on sale.

Green fairy had mystery honey buns and I love honey buns.

Stash report June 20, 2021

Fabric Used this week: 0 yards

Fabric Used year to Date: 87 1/2 yards

I stitched at least 15 minutes 3 days this week.

All the hooking is done for Mr. Scarecrow rug, I just haven't spread him out for a good look and picture.

I found these hooked chickens in my ufo drawer that need a back and a finish. I will be hand stitching the red piece to the back to make potholders for Slow Sunday Stitching.

stash report June 13, 2021

I attended a sleep in your own bed retreat this weekend and there was a free table. I haven't had a chance to count what came home. ( I was really really tired). Unfortunately, the table was on the way to the restroom, and, right next to the food. I remember, I found purple, and florals which I was looking to add to my stash. My table buddy was a good girl for her stash, but, kept bringing me fabric she thought I needed. haha

I can always use neutrals

and blues

I indulged in 2 moda scrap bags. I know they are not really economical, or practical, but, I love the mystery. Some bags are a disappointment, but, these were great. The strips were mostly 3 inches wide, and, many were coordinating.

stash report May 2, 2021

Rather than add fabric this week, I cut fabric strips. I weighed them at 3 lbs 6 oz all from scraps. This is equal to 9 1/2 yards of fabric or 100.00 dollars  -  or 3 jelly rolls = 120.00 dollars - or 3 layer cakes = 120.00 - or 6 honey buns = 150.00 dollars - or 14 charm packs = 140.00 dollars. Well worth the time to make use of these fabric scraps.

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week. I am trying to make 2 easy breezy blocks every morning. And I did.

I have hooked the crow for my Mr. Scarecrow rug hooking project. It seems I am moving along since rejoining my rug hooking group. If it isn't in my head, I just keep procrastinating. I am surprised how motivational being around other rug hookers has been. Too bad, there isn't a group for cleaning I could join.

Here is a project that Jan is working to complete. He looks so cute.

stash report April 25, 2021

I found two pieces of fabric at Goodwill this week. And, they look good together. I am always wondering what goes on in the mind of the person sending their fabric to goodwill. Do they not like it, was it leftover from a project, are they moving, quitting, or just downsizing? I try to keep my expected cost of goodwill fabric to 1.00 per yard. Their fabric prices are getting ridiculous for second hand fabric. I can only buy on Senior discount day. These 2 pieces were closer to 1.50 per yard, but, I liked them enough to make the exception.

3 yards

I had a finish last week here, and, can actually count fabric that is used and gone from my stash. yipee.

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week. One day was mostly cutting and straightening. I am trying to make 2 easy breezy blocks every morning.

Last year at this time I did a review of my stash report    I am curious every April, apparently. I am a little behind this year.

I had used  98 yards of fabric in 2020 by April 26
I had used  100 yards of fabric by April 2019
I had used 100 yards of fabric by April 2018

I am done with one of the pumpkins of my Mr. Scarecrow rug hooking project.  I have one more pumpkin to do, then, I will start at the top again and work my way to the bottom.
I've gone to my rug hooking meeting 2 weeks in a row. It is really hard to restart a group setting after a year at home for the pandemic. But, it has motivated me again to hook.

stash report April 18, 2021

I went to rug hooking meeting last week for the first time this year. And, I finished the flower part of this project. I was pleased until I saw the picture. I want to rework the tips a bit. I have a great lime green wool for the background. This is my portable project that i can take with me to the meeting. Mr. Scarecrow is big and heavy, so, I am saving him for home.

No change in my stash report this week. I have several quilting projects ready to complete. So, one night I will go to bed, and the next day, I will have a few finishes.  haha

I found these treasures at goodwill. The red is 1 1/3 yards. The cream is at least 1/2 yard wof, and, another yard just half wof. The birds are 1/2 yard.

Fabric Used this week:1 1/2 yards

Fabric Used year to Date: 53 yards

Fabric Added this week: 2 1/3 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 55 1/3 yards

net fabric: 2 1/3 yards bought more than used

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week. I cut at least 15 minutes a day.

I have done a little rug hooking with one of the pumpkins of my Mr. Scarecrow rug hooking project. I started hooking top down, and then, I was worried I would not have enough of the same wool for the whole pumpkin. The best place, in my opinion, to add a different wool would be in the bottom middle, so, I  hooked around the edges, until, I had a better idea of how much wool I needed. I am pretty sure I will have enough to finish this pumpkin.

just a little bit to go

I haven't added any new fabric this week. I have been reminding myself, successfully, that I have scraps in a scrap bucket that need to be tended. And, if I cut them, there has to be room to put them.

Stash report  March 14, 2021

Fabric Used this week: 0 yards - no finishes

Fabric Used year to Date: 46 1/2 yards

Fabric Added this week: 0 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 50 1/2 yards

net fabric: 4 yards bought more than used

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week.

I had some questions about rug hooking. SO, I thought I would share a bit.

My favorite tools that I use all the time. are slanted scissors, a bent hook primitive( larger) and wool, and linen. With Mr Scarecrow, I do not have a previous finished picture to go by with colors or shading. It was a new pattern to the designer, and, I liked it well enough to buy it.
The pattern is just the basic shapes. I am working on a tall pumpkin with only the outside drawn in. I wanted to add a few light shaping rows.
Rug hooking is very forgiving. If I don't like what I do, I can quickly pull it out and do something else.
It is not like quilting and a seam ripper.

black lines are the pattern

For this project, I am using an 8 cut of wool, which is 1/4 inch. Wool cuts so nicely, and, I have a cutter with several sizes. I will hold the wool strip in my left hand over my index finger. And that hand will go under the piece on the frame. I can't see it, so, I go by feel.

With my right hand, I will use the  hook to go through a hole in the linen, touch my finger to find the wool, and pull a loop of wool to the top. The loop should be as high as the wool is wide. But, I like mine shorter.

Fabric Used year to Date: 46 1/2 yards

Fabric Added this week: 1/2 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 50 1/2 yards

net fabric: 4 yards bought more than used

I stitched at least 15 minutes every day this week.   green blocks - quilt borders - string blocks

I thought I would go back up to the top of my Mr. Scarecrow rug hooking project. I have been working on parts all over the rug, which involves moving the rug on the frame more than I would like. I think it is time to start at the top and finish everything moving downward. well.... until I decide something else. The head was fun - I like his quirky attitude.

I had a few questions about rug hooking - I will try to take a few pictures and make a better explanation next week.

I had a chance to buy 4 of the same charm pack in red and blue. It was a closeout sale somewhere. They are blender type of patterns and I thought I would be able to use them. Although, I can't seem to open any of my charm packs - they are too "special"
