carolina chain blocks

Right now, any sewing I do has to be easy and easy to reach. I found these laying next to the machine. I use Carolina chain as an away project, but it just looked like fun, so, I sewed a few blocks. I'd like to say that this is a great scrap buster pattern, but, it barely made a dent.

I've started another snowman for my rug.

one monthly goal finish

At the beginning of the month, my one monthly goal for August was to get On ringo lake mystery quilt to a top. and to have all the garden party blocks finished and the chaining blocks started.
Here is the top. When I put it together, I discovered that there was a mistake on the center row, and I had to take it apart and redo the sashings in the center row. At this point, I have one more sashing near the center that has to be flipped.

I finished all the garden party blocks, and I cut the strips for the chaining blocks.

more exciting news..
My orchid is blooming. I have had it a couple of years, and was beginning to lose hope it would bloom again. It is just lovely.

on ringo lake quilt

It took a bit of looking to even find my on ringo lake mystery quilt. I wanted to get this quilt to top as my goal for August. I had to really think about what had been done, and, what I still needed to do to get this finished. I counted and found all the blocks I would need. yay

I had all the sashings together in twosies. yay

I had one row started. yay

I even had the corner section together. Of all the Bonnie Hunter mysery quilts, this one was the hardest to understand the assembly instructions. The sashings were a mystery. As far as I can tell I am turning the right way at the right place, but I am thinking it could be different all together. We will see.

pink star

Great news, my hubby took me to Joann yesterday. I am 5 weeks out from surgery, so I haven't been in some time. I didn't make it all the way through a shopping visit, but I got my feet wet. They had an extra 30% off their fabric clearance, and another 10% if I finish the bolt. I picked 2, and then, hubby told them all of it, and stood in line to pay while I went and sat in the car. It was so fun. And ice cream afterwards, too.
I am still a little behind in sewing my projects for the rainbow scrap challenge. The pink is from July and the color for August is bright blue.

And, finally, all 100 garden party blocks have been sewn. It's time to sew the chaining blocks that will be the alternate blocks. I am doing them in black and white.

sugar mountain finish

I have a finish. Sugar mountain was a workshop with our guild and Pam Buda. At the last retreat, I decided to finish this quilt the way it was. Originally, this quilt was just 12 blocks, and I rarely do small quilts. I had cut for a few more blocks, and planned to make it bed size. I took it with me to retreat to formulate a plan. The plan ...finish it.

It was small enough that I felt I could longarm it as long as I took long breaks. The binding was done over a couple of evenings in front of the tv.

This is part of my 2019 finish along goals.
My list for the 3rd quarter:
1.wiggle time finished
2. allietare finished
4. sweet land of liberty
5. unicorn
6. good fortune finished
7. crazy 6
8. countryside cottage
9. sugar mountain finished
10.En provence finished
11. melba applique
12.on ringo lake finished
13. scrappy twirl
14. soul searching

shoofly

Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville has announced this year's new leader/ender challenge. If I make the small
4 1/2 inch size, I have a box of bonus hsts that were supposed to be 2 inches but are not. This would be a great place to use them, but, I would have to trim them down to 1 1/2 inches hmmmmm is it worth the effort.

I would also want the 4 hsts to match

The rest of the block was cute and easy to make.

I am not thinking this is the way I want to make them, trimming was a bother. It uses up odd stuff, but takes too much energy. I didn't have that many that matched. Next, I will try cutting and sewing the hsts to see if I like that better.

snowman rug

Nothing new is really happening here, until I find a new normal from surgery. Hubby has been off of work taking care of me and we are starting to talk about him going back to work. So I am a good deal better.
I have pulled my rug hooking out for when I am just sitting and resting. I can hook 2 or 3 strips before I need to move again. I don't see any pictures of this rug on the blog yet. Here are the first and second cute snowmen.

and Jimmy Durante snowman.

tiny tuesday

I am a little afraid, I am getting too far behind on tiny tuesday blocks, but I remind myself that most of the time they are fun and quick enough to make. And just to help me out, there wasn't one this week.

I don't know why this looks so unpressed. I did press it..... must be gremlins.

garden party

I am so close to finishing the 100 garden party blocks. I have a few minutes each day to sew. I made kits with these blocks so they are easy to just grab and sew a few.

I am getting stronger each day, but the hardest part of recovery are the limitations- no bending, twisting, squatting, lifting. I wish I had prepared my sewing room for the limitations. Much of what I would want to work on is off limits. While my husband is home taking care of me, we spend a little time each day, trying to move a few supplies into my "moving " space. I am learning to love my grabber tool. Funny how I am not trying to make laundry possible......or bathroom cleaning

pink letters

I made pink letters for my quote quilt.

And while I was sorting through the pink, I found the remnants of another quilt. I wonder what to do with so many extra pieces. Do I use it as a starting point for another pink quilt, or split the pieces up into their parts.? What would you do?

It's also a new month and the new rainbow color is bright/ light blue. And time to make a new goal for August. I know it is best to keep my goals easier this month as I try to find a new normal following surgery. I want to find and plan my way to an on ringo lake mystery quilt finish. For August, I will be happy to have a finished top. I plan to finish garden party blocks and hopefully start the chaining blocks for that quilt.

clean and organized

My first thought when I saw this was, why hadn't I thought of this. Then I realized the "real" me was already thinking, this is a good reason not to finish anything.

After the glow of finishing a quilt, and I enter the sewing room again for the first time after, I wonder what kind of mad woman has been in my room? Is there any way the "real" me could turn into the tidy me? But, I did just finish En Provence, so I will give it a try.

I have sewn a few more Bonnie Hunter garden party blocks.

and a few Bonnie Hunter Carolina chain blocks.
