snowball progress

I made progress on my snowball quilt. I thought I had snowballed all the corners on all the charm squares. Hooray.

But, as I sewed them together in twosies, I could tell that I had missed a batch, somewhere. Bummer. It's a good thing I have enjoyed making these. The remaining, pesky little squares were hiding in the pile of 2 inch squares. They will be called to task. Aren't they cute? gotta love a scrappy quilt.

stash report June 15, 2025

I found these at a quilt sale. They came in a bigger bag of fat quarters that I still am investigating. I like enhancing my purple, orange, and yellow stash.

With the new year, I am restarting an applique project - across the wide missourri-  I started this project again in 2025 primarily for in the car traveling while we were traveling. But, I have continued this after we returned home. I try to do a little every day. I want to finish this by the end of the year.... or next.

This is the new block I am starting for the quilt.

orange progress

I used 3 wof 1 1/2 inch strips and made strip sets with a neutral. The orange zigzag units are all done for June.

I turned the twosies from orange spiderwebs  into 5 rows with 6 blocks each.   Here is my first post about this quilt in 2016

I sewed a few orange/neutral sets for ditch lilies that I had already cut. But, My numbers are wrong and will have to cut more.

I have an older shirt quilt ufo that I am slowly working on when social sewing. I really like shirt fabrics and making it has helped with my motivation to keep cutting the huuge box of shirt pieces. holy toledo is a quiltville pattern from the book scraps and shirttails 2

cutting scraps for June

One of my monthly goals for the 5 quilt project is to spend one day a month cutting scraps. This is the 4th month in a row. three of those months have been this box of shirts.

I found a box of scrappy leftovers of shirt fabric, that is my next project for scrap cutting. It weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces. I am trying to spend my time at Friday sew, once a month, to cut scraps.

I saw the bottom of the box this time. I had big pieces that I replaced in the box that I will cut with my accu-cut at home. There was an uncut shirt at the bottom of the box which is on it's way to the rescue mission.

This time the cut pieces weighed 3 pounds 6 ounces which is 10 1/2 yards of useable fabric. The total yardage for the box was 26 1/2 yards of useable fabric. For the year, the total is 35 yards of useable fabric. And I had fun socializing while I was doing it -bonus.

All the rest are cut into 10, 5, 3 1/2, 2 1/2, 2, 1 1/2 inches or strips

This is the trash I made.

And these are the string pieces for another day. By this time, I admit the strings are much bigger than usual. I was tired of cutting haha

I have made several shirt quilts from recycled shirts over the years. They are some of my favorirtes, and that keeps me motivated to keep cutting this huge box of shirt pieces.

stash report June 8, 2025

This wall hanging is one of my favorite finds at our guild sale. I know the quilter very well, and was thrilled to add it to my wall art. I thought it was pretty and very well made.

I'm starting a new block that looks much easier than the last one. I have everything traced and ironed. I am ready to go. The quilt has 12 block of the month sets. I have 7 completed.

orange spiderweb

Orange is the rainbow scrap challenge color for June.

I was pretty excited to change colors this month and finish an older Ufo called spiderweb.  But, as I was taking pictures, I realized that last month's ufo was ditch lilies and it also has orange in it. I think I will work on both.

So far, I have made the whole spiderweb quilt with my people powered treadle machine. All the blocks are in twosies. I have had the treadle closed for a while now, and I think I might reopen it, just to finish this quilt this month. I really enjoy treadling in the evening. I put it away because it makes a terrible mess in my living room where it lives. But, it will only be a month, right?

The orange part of ditch lilies are small rail fence blocks made with scrappy oranges and neutrals.

5 quilt progress

I have decided on the border I want for my scrappy twirl quilt. I am not sure about the corners, yet.

While I was digging around, trying to find some wool for my rug hooking project, I found 2 missing quilts in a tub. I had given them up for lost. 1st is a quiltville pattern called oklahoma backroads. Which is in rows, and will need assembly.

The 2nd quilt is a top called chunky churndash. Also a quiltville pattern.

I have made more blocks for  holy toledo

My zipper  quilt is on the frame.

snowball and one monthly goal

I have restarted an older ufo for my 5 quilt project. This is a scrappy snowball quilt from 2020.      I used this pattern from suzies scraps       I had all the squares in a bag and all the centers cut. I also had 2 blocks sewn. It looks like it will take for ever, but it uses 29 scrappy 2 inch squares per block. Finishing the top is my June one monthly goal.

stash report June 1, 2025

I have been attending quilters' garage sales, and buying fabric. I think the dam has burst. I was so careful last year, and, apparently, I can only be good for so long. It will take a while to sort, measure, and fold the new fabric. But, I like that part- Finding a place for it, not so much.

Finally, this block is done. I started it the first part of the year on my way to Florida. I am thrilled I stuck with it.
