scrap cutting for april

I found a box of scrappy leftovers of shirt fabric, that is my next project for scrap cutting. It weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces. I am trying to spend my time at Friday sew, once a month, to cut scraps. When I was done the box weighed 5 pounds 2 ounces.

I didn't get that much cut this month. I think there was too much to decide which took longer. My plan is to take a piece of fabric out of the box, and cut the biggest piece I can and then work my way down the list - 10, 5, 3 1/2, 2 1/2, 2, 1 1/2.  I have a box for each one. I had 1 shirt back that was at least a fat quarter. The cut pieces weighed 1 pound 5 ounces which is 4 yards of useable fabric.

I have a few more rows done for peppermint candy.

  3. I think you did really well at cutting the scraps. It's a time consuming activity! Peppermint Candy is really cute. You'll have it all together pretty quickly.

  4. Your scrap attack plan makes perfect sense. But, yes, it's so easy to get distracted with ideas while you're cutting and sorting. The peppermints are cute.

  5. Oh peppermint candy is looking good. I have 2 large tubs of shirts that are deconstructed. I need to wean them out and separate out all the smaller pieces. When I first started I was trying to save every square inch. Not any more-too much- and I won't use the cuffs and collars. This is my TV project while we watch Detroit Tigers games. I do have a project in mind but it's way down the list!

  6. I've thought so many times of cutting up the old button up shirts and making a quilt......and sewing it all by hand.
