Snowflake corners

This is the last part of the snowflake block.

It's time to make the corners. Here is a quick tutorial for foundation piecing. The wrong side of the fabric faces the wrong side of the paper. Each piece has been cut to size.

The piecing on the corner will use the prints in number order. #2 print is the same as # 1 on the wings. #5 on the corner is the same  #4 on the wings. # 8 on the corner is the same as # 7 on the wings.

The first set of rectangles is the smaller set. The next round will be the larger rectangle.

It is important to check against a light source that the triangles are centered.

I had the most trouble with the last pesky triangle. I am not sure why.

Each block will need four matching corners. And these corners should have the same fabric as the four matching wings. So make 64.
After this we are ready to assemble. It won't be long now.

Christmas Snowflake wings

I am working on cutting and sewing this Christmas quilt. I am planning on sharing as I go along.

 Here is a quick tutorial for foundation piecing. The wrong side of the fabric faces the wrong side of the paper.
It is a bit tricky placing the print triangle. I wish it was a bit bigger with more wiggle room.

With white fabric it has to be trimmed or the dark will show through the fabric.

In my quilt I am using the same fabric in rounds around the center of each block. So the block will take 4 of the same set. There are 64 sets of the wings to do for the quilt.

 I prefer to tear off the paper before I start any quilt assembly.

square dance clue 3 finish

I have been working on the mystery quilt from My Carolina Home. I have finished  clue 3 come down the middle. It was an easy clue, sewing rectangles together in 2 different combinations. I didn't take a picture of the print with a light set. After some of the mystery quilts I have done, this is really a pleasure.

With my hubby home, my Nellie longarm had a much needed spa day.

Now, she purrs. I am so grateful He has been able to do this. It has been a blessing all these years that He is very talented in this way.

My June goals

The next quiltville mystery quilt I need to finish is Christmas lights from 2009 quiltmaker magazine.
I need to add borders and quilt it to finish it. I am making this my June One monthly goal.

I think I see a border choice in the box and will know when I really dig back into the project.

I want to revisit stella Cyranna and my snow project from the first part of the year as part of my one monthly goal as well. Last month, my goal was to open stella and read about it, and that is all I did.

I know I hit a snag on this quilt, but I don't remember what it is. I will need to figure out where I was and what I still need to do.

We had a guild speaker from Indianapolis and she shared her quilting vision. Susan Sharp is a modern quilter and makes small quilts with intricate paper piecing. She has used some very big names in the quilting world to machine quilt her quilts. And that is what catches everybody's attention. And most of the questions from the guild centered around asking questions about the quilting. Sad, that her work is not the primary focus. Her blog is no hats in the house.

There were 96 pieces in the sparkle centers for this quilt.

I've started a new hooked rug that was a kit from W cushing.
The wool included is beautiful and the piece requires a variegated piece pulled as shading. It is a little overwhelming. But that will be my "stitching " for awhile.

We've got soul

With the first Saturday so close to the first of June, I was not expecting to get any rainbow scrap challenge sewing done. But, I was able to find a few turquoise 2 1/2 in strips and get started. I have even less of this color than pink from last month.

I have a soul searching block ready.

I had time at Friday group to start assembly of last years rainbow quilt -pineapple blossom quilt.
The center is together. I need to begin the borders.

I have a Friday finish that I am super happy to show. This is a large rug -24 in x 51 in. The colors are a little brighter outdoors than they really are in the living room. I am grateful that most of the wool in this rug has come from recycled wool, and I hand dyed a few pieces. I added velvet to the flag and that is lovely up close. I like a scrappy rug just like I like scrappy quilts too.

It's a Polly Minnick pattern called Uncle Sam's hat. I started it in January of this year.
I found a few glitter blocks that I still needed to assemble and they are done. I think that is all the blocks I need to start assembling this quilt.
