one monthly goal finish - shine

I have finished my March one monthly goal at elm street quilts by completing my Shine quilt. It is a free pattern at moda bakeshop. I started it as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy in January 2020. I made one or two different color blocks each month for the year. It was a top in November. Now it is quilted and bound.

66 x 82 = 12 yards

I used leftover strips for the binding and machine sewed it on the front

This was a great block and easy enough to do, and, it uses a jelly roll or 2 1/2 inch strips.

A new goal for March

March is here already, and, so far, it is coming in like a lamb which means it will leave like lion. I have a one monthly goal for March. I have the top ready for shine, and, I want to quilt it and bind it this month. I started this pattern in January 2020 as part of the rainbow scrap challenge. After I started, I was smitten.  It is a free pattern offered on moda bake shop. It will be nice to get it finished.

While I am waiting on the next color for March and the rainbow scrap challenge, I am sewing scraps

shine quilt top

We had a wind advisory last week, and this, is what we found. This wasn't the part of the tree that we had been worried about splitting. I clean up from retreat and hubby cleans up outside. Four of our dead ash trees in the back blew down as well.

Hubby has been busy trying to clean  the area. We were grateful it didn't fall in the road.

I finished the shine top from this year's rainbow scrap challenge project. This was a great block and easy enough to do, and, it uses a jelly roll or 2 1/2 inch strips. I think, I want to do it again in scrappy colors. One strip makes the block.

I found the perfect size fabric for the back at home, and prepared the binding. This may have to percolate a while before I can get to the quilting.

guild workshop

Last Saturday, I taught a workshop for my guild, making the shine block and quilt. I am inspired by other's choices.

I did get one row put together while the other's were sewing. But, I didn't get enough pictures of the other choices.

I made the orange cross blocks that I was missing for the row x row quilt and the rainbow scrap challenge. I am also missing a second turquoise row.

And, it is now, part of a section of the quilt.

what does everyone have planned for next year? I want to finish a few longtime ufos.

more yellow sunshine

If it were not for the yellow in my rainbow scrap challenge blocks, there would be no sunshine in Indiana these days. We have had dreary dark days already. with a twinge of cold. Hubby had to clean out the garden with the threat of frost.  I have had a cold. How do you catch a cold in this sterile world these days.?

I am moving along on my blocks for October. It's hard to think, we are almost done with the challenge for 2020. I have a small basket of ufos to work on for next year. Most of my projects will be from sorting project boxes.

to do: shine

I'm still playing catch up from last week. I finished the last Shine blocks that, I had missed during the rainbow scrap challenge.

I had started purple psp 20 blocks and needed to finish them.

It's fall in Indiana. There is a certain blue to our sky that I love. I like the temperatures, but, not the shortening of the day. Hubby has been busy finishing the tomatoes and peppers. And we have another batch of salsa ahead of us. I saw a cute idea for a pumpkin this year, and, we went in search of the perfect pumpkin.

tiny reds

I couldn't wait to dig into red for the rainbow scrap challenge in September. I knew I had no shortage of red scraps - they are everywhere. Next to blue, I have more red scraps than any other color. Probably because, there are so many reds. Many of my scraps are gifted to me, and, it is a well used color among quilters. I get a lot of  small scraps in red.

I made the tiny houses from 2 inch strip bin. I look for the shortest strip and cut it 2 1/2 inches and 3 1/2 inches, hopefully, until I use it all.

These tiny stars are made next from the cut off triangle from the roofs of the houses, and a box of triangle cut offs. I use 2 inch strips to cut the background.

The shine block is made from a jelly roll I chose at the beginning of the year, and, this, is the closet to red I had from the strips. If you squint, it looks almost red.

It looks like I have 4 of the 6 rainbow projects caught up for September, with 2 to go. Maybe, I will pull out something old from the project closet. Or maybe, I will get complacent and forget.

purple projects

Today is Saturday, and the rainbow scrap challenge here. I had bigger chunks of purple scraps for the tiny houses. So, there are many repeats. I don't think I will mind in a big scrappy quilt.

I finished the shine blocks in purple for another rainbow project.

I decided to look in the ufo closet for a purple ufo that I might could finish in August. I don't remember where I acquired this little baby quilt, but, I loved it. I am thinking, I picked it up at a quilt show garage sale.

It had been embroidered and pieced, but, one of the borders was missing.

Luckily, it came with matching fabric.   All better...

Now, to see if I can get it quilted soon. I am afraid I am going to run out of Saturdays before I run out of purple projects.

Shine a little

I realized that I didn't have very many blocks done for one of my rainbow scrap challenge quilts, if, I was going to have all the blocks done by the end of the year. hmm. what was I doing wrong? I needed to  make 2 of every color, but, there wasn't 2 of every color cut. I didn't cut the whole thing at the beginning...sigh

It won't take long to catch up with the blocks, now that I have figured out what I need to do.

pink quilty fun

The rainbow scrap challenge for June is pink. I have a dresden plate in pink that I have included this month, along with the projects I try to do each month in the rainbow color.
I made one block for shine using 2 1/2 inch strips.

I made 10 blocks for country roads using  1 1/2 inch strips. I really like these blocks.

We have had a wonderful week of summer weather, sunshine, and not too hot. The garden has been happy, and so has hubby who really likes to be outside. He is still off work for his back surgery recovery. He sees the doctor next week, and He is entertaining the idea of retiring, and, then,  everything could change.

Oh, and I have these done, using the pieces as leader/enders for my other projects. I can't believe how many I get done without planning to get done. I may even get all the blocks I need this month.

blue blocks

This is the last Saturday in April for the rainbow scrap challenge. I need to make sure all my projects have their blue on. This is the shine block.

And this is the scraptastic star quilt. I may have enough blocks to assemble the quilt, if, I like the colors that I have together.

This is the row x row quilt. This quilt calls for 2 of every color and row. This year I have only been making one row of each color and style. I haven't decided if I will make up rows on colors that are not in the quilt or just wait until next year. And, I think that is everything for the month.

rsc teal

The color for March and the rainbow scrap challenge is teal. I chose a more aqua color for my shine quilt.

I dug through my 2 inch scraps and found a little of everything for the tiny houses.

shine blocks

I have the orange blocks finished for shine quilt. I almost missed this second orange, because it was more coral to me. But, it really is orange next to pink. It definitely looks orange on the computer.

I fell in love with cathy's  at sane crazy crumbly quilts  tiny houses quilt.
She has been making houses with the rainbow scrap challenge for awhile, and, I had fun searching for them on her blog. And, then, I wanted to try them too. They are fun and dandy.

I think all I have left for orange is the row x row. I have cut the pieces and hopefully will have them done next week.
