5 quilts September 18, 2023

 last report August 14, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I have finishes that are exciting, and, I have a few more getting ready. Working on 5 quilts at a time, isn't fast, but, overtime, I chip away at these worthy projects.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - I am working on assembly and piecing the top. Finishing it is my one monthly goal for September at elm street quilts.

2.  plaid kaliedescope - I have all the pieces cut for the blocks, I think I will return it to the UFO closet

3. uneven 9 patch - The center is finished and I am adding borders

I will add an inner border and an outer border

4. rectangle wrangle quilt.- finished

wrangled a finish

Rectangle wrangle is finished. I brought it out of the ufo closet in May 2023. I made progress through out the year. I started assembly in July. It was a top in August. I love how it looks and feels. Shirt fabrics are very forgiving, and, so fun to use. Only a few of hubby's old shirts are in this one. The rest are recycled form thrift stores. I see more light than I was expecting while I was making this. I guess that is the magic of using shirt fabrics.

90 x 102 = 27 yards

Rectangle wrangle is a Bonnie hunter quilt from her book scraps and shirttails 2. There are 4726 pieces in this quilt, and they all needed matching seams haha

I used a gray for the backing and light black for the binding. I did a free motion swirl on the long arm for the quilting in medium gray. This is my 19th UFO finish for the year.

5 quilts report August 14, 2023

last report July 19,2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

There has been some rotation of projects as I have finally finished a few. I look forward to new Ufos that have come out to play with me.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - twosies have turned into foursies. I have not taken this quilt out to social sewing. I feel it requires more focus. But, it takes longer.

2. Block of the month UFO Saturday soire.  This an older UFO from 2013. After, I had it on the frame for quilting, I decided I wasn't happy with some of the points, and, I would need to redo a few. I took it off and started ripping and sewing. It is on the frame, again, and I have started quilting.

Finished  I am much happier with how it turned out after resewing several spots.

3. plaid kaliedescope - I have cut many, many wedges. I have sorted for some block combos, but, I am not nearly as close to a cutting finish as I thought I was.

more shirts for a variety.

5. girlie garden from the needs quilting list. is finished

wrangling a top

I had a chance to assemble more of my rectangle wrangle quilt. It seems magical, as I add each row, and, see how the pattern emerges. There are a lot of seams that need matching, so, it is slower than my patience, sometimes. It is a big quilt, probably queen size, and very heavy. But I love it so far.

I am also making ohio stars for the border, as, I work on the assembly. I can't really finish it until they are done.

assemble wrangle

I am so excited. I have all the blocks done for rectangle wrangle, and, I have started to assemble the top. I think it is going to be a fun quilt to make. Other than playing with the blocks to see how they will look together, I am just sewing twosies.

My One monthly goal for July was to have all 84 blocks finished And, I have met the goal. yipee

I have also played with making the ohio star blocks for the border. I think I have made 4. They are small, and, I need 56 of them. I hope to make a few in the mornings until I have enough.

5 quilts July 19, 2023

 last report june 23, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.

I feel like I have cheated on the 5 quilts, and, dabbled too much with new shiny projects. I played with my hsts drawer for sugar grove, I played with fractured squares with 2 1/2 inch scraps, I am playing with a quilty buddy making strip tease, and, just had to play with 9 patches for 9 patch on point. And I am in a cutting scraps mood.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - I have all 60 blocks made and I am slowly making twosies as leader/enders

2. Block of the month UFO Saturday soire.  This an older UFO from 2013. After, I had it on the frame for quilting, I decided I wasn't happy with some of the points and I would need to redo a few. I took it off and started ripping and sewing. It is on the frame, again, and I have started quilting

3. plaid kaliedescope - I have cut many, many wedges I have sorted for some block combos, but, I am not nearly as close to a cutting finish as I thought I was. I want to find more shirts for a variety.

4. rectangle wrangle quilt.-all the blocks are finished for the center. I need to make ohio stars for the border.

new # 5. girlie garden from the needs quilting list.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

2. taw baby quilt is finished

3. saturday soire on the frame,

4. girlie garden-  back made,

5. hand me down - back made

downhill side of rectangle wrangle

I am finally working on the downhill blocks for rectangle wrangle. All of the uphill blocks are finished. I think the remaining strips are a little ho hum, but, I will use them. Apparently, I have pulled out all my favorites.  In such a busy quilt, they will fit just fine.

I want to finish all 42 downhill blocks for my July one monthly goal at elm street quilts.
I didn't finish my june monthly goal but, I did add three ufo finishes for june and the PHD report

5 quilts june 23, 2023

 last report May 29 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.

I have made more progress than I thought I had this last month on my 5 quilts. Progress seems small, as there are so many steps to each one, and I may only do part of one at a time, but, overall, I am seeing some finishing.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - I have made 30 or so. I need 60. I try to make 2 every morning. It surprised me, when I counted, that I am over half way done with the blocks. They seem to take forever.

2. Block of the month UFO Saturday soire.  This an older UFO from 2013. I have been able to start assembly. It is my one monthly goal for June, so, I hope to see a finish. I worked and worked to get all the assembly pieces together and then, poof, it was almost together.

3. plaid kaliedescope - I have cut many , many wedges, and need to sort them into block combos to see how many I have, and how many I still need to cut.

4. rectangle wrangle quilt.-I thought this would make a good portable project, But, I mostly sew a couple blocks every morning. I have all ( 42)  uphill blocks finished. Next are the downhill blocks. It will take a few to break my groove and start another groove.

5. wonky wishes is a new ufo project added in June. It was surprising how quickly I was able to quilt and finish.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

1.. scrapbox chevron is finished

2. wonky wishes 2017 is finished

wrangle progress

I have made progress on my rectangle wrangle quilt. I try to make 2 blocks every day. There are 84 blocks, so slow and steady wins the race. I tried to take it with me for a portable project, but, made too many mistakes. It has to stay home. poor baby

With some of the leftover tiny pieces I sewed a little extra to my denim dress.

wrangle progress

I have been working on rectangle wrangle. I try to make 2 blocks every day. I cut over 400 shirt strips in 2018. After, I sew the strip sets, and, make the tube, I can play with each block. I love shirt fabric, the feel, the colors, the plaids. And, I know the best part will be seeing a whole quilt come together. I think they are always striking. And, any combo of colors will work. I've had this quilt on my list for a long time. Slow and steady, I will work each day. The blocks are divided into uphill blocks and downhill blocks. I am nearly done with the uphill blocks
