5 quilts July 19, 2023

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead.

I feel like I have cheated on the 5 quilts, and, dabbled too much with new shiny projects. I played with my hsts drawer for sugar grove, I played with fractured squares with 2 1/2 inch scraps, I am playing with a quilty buddy making strip tease, and, just had to play with 9 patches for 9 patch on point. And I am in a cutting scraps mood.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - I have all 60 blocks made and I am slowly making twosies as leader/enders

2. Block of the month UFO Saturday soire. This an older UFO from 2013. After, I had it on the frame for quilting, I decided I wasn't happy with some of the points and I would need to redo a few. I took it off and started ripping and sewing. It is on the frame, again, and I have started quilting

3. plaid kaliedescope - I have cut many, many wedges I have sorted for some block combos, but, I am not nearly as close to a cutting finish as I thought I was. I want to find more shirts for a variety.

4. rectangle wrangle quilt.-all the blocks are finished for the center. I need to make ohio stars for the border.

MY next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

1. checkered past is finished

2. taw baby quilt is finished

3. saturday soire on the frame,

4. girlie garden- back made,

5. hand me down - back made

new # 2 Lucille star flimsy -find

new #4 since I moved it to the 5 quilts - fair and square

5 quilts june 23, 2023

I have made more progress than I thought I had this last month on my 5 quilts. Progress seems small, as there are so many steps to each one, and I may only do part of one at a time, but, overall, I am seeing some finishing.

1. wensleydale a jen kingwell pattern - I have made 30 or so. I need 60. I try to make 2 every morning. It surprised me, when I counted, that I am over half way done with the blocks. They seem to take forever.

2. Block of the month UFO Saturday soire. This an older UFO from 2013. I have been able to start assembly. It is my one monthly goal for June, so, I hope to see a finish. I worked and worked to get all the assembly pieces together and then, poof, it was almost together.

3. plaid kaliedescope - I have cut many , many wedges, and need to sort them into block combos to see how many I have, and how many I still need to cut.

4. rectangle wrangle quilt.-I thought this would make a good portable project, But, I mostly sew a couple blocks every morning. I have all ( 42) uphill blocks finished. Next are the downhill blocks. It will take a few to break my groove and start another groove.

5. wonky wishes is a new ufo project added in June. It was surprising how quickly I was able to quilt and finish.

Scrap box chevron finish

I finished scrap box chevron in the nick of time for my one monthly goal for May. I put the last stitches in the binding yesterday. I had a few customer quilts that took priority this month, and, I wasn't sure I could make it. I started it in 2013 and it was ready to quilt in 2014. Yes, it has waited that long to be quilted. Many of my quilts that stall at the quilting stage are there because I am not a fancy quilter. I think I save them to do the new modern fancy stuff, but, no, I am not that person. So, it is time to finish these quilts, my way.

58 x 61 = 12 yards

At the end of the month( can you believe it), it is time to check on my PHD report. I did better than I thought I did. I finished 4 UFOS in May. I am sure that is a record. But, the best part, I haven't started anything new this year. Even the TAW baby quilt was started as another project 4 years ago, I repurposed the strips for the new quilt.

scrapbox chevron for May

I started this UFO as a workshop in 2013, before, I started blogging. I remember buying the pattern at a quilt show in Bloomington Indiana. It has been ready to finish since 2014. What a patient quilt. I can imagine it waiting in the 'to be closet' cheering every quilt that was chosen and moved on, hoping that it would have it's turn. May is the month. It is my one monthly goal to assess what it needs, and, get it done.
