I auditioned neutral, red, and light blue for the sashing. But, I decided to use dark blue. The top is ready for quilting as soon as there is time on the longarm.

zipper twosies
All my zipper blocks are in sets of 2. I wondered how to evenly distribute the colors and make it random. I had made the blocks using the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Each month, I took the color of the month scrap bag, and, cut out the block, and sewed them.
I decided to sew them into twosies. I took all the pinks and sewed each one to R-O-Y-G-B-I-V. Then I took red and did the same, and so on. I am sure in the end there will still be ugly combos and fabrics too close to each other, but, at least, I had a plan to follow.

kristals project
I started a new quilt with a quilting buddy. I cut the print part at an open sew. I still need to cut the background. My initial impression is that the instructions were not written in my way of thinking. I will have to do a lot of repeat reading to understand the next steps.
I have no business starting anything new this year. I have enough UFOs to last a lifetime that should keep me busy. On the other hand, I have had the pattern long enough, and the fabric pulled long enough, it could be defined as an Ufo. And, it was in a box. haha

stash report 2/5/2023
I don't have new fabric this week. I have been cutting scraps. I cut 1 1/2 inch strips at the last, if I can't cut anything larger. There was 1 pound 2 ounces of scraps in this size. If there are 3 yards in a pound, I have a little over 1 yard.

When I have chunks, I cut them into 5 inch, 3 1/2 inch, 2 1/2 in, 2 inch, and 1 1/2 inch squares. I also will cut rectangles into 2 x 3 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch.

29 1/2 yards used more than bought
I sewed 6 days last week. including Friday sew. I was away from home, but, worked on my hexie quilt each day.

pink hollow nine
I was anxious to see what pink lurks in the scrap drawers for the the rainbow scrap challenge. It is such fun to start a new color each month. I did manage to find enough 3 1/2 inch squares to sew 3 pink hollow nine squares.

5 quilts February 3, 2023
last report 5 quilts january 23, 2023
We took a mini little vacation and, now, it is time to regroup and recheck my goals. I have a new finish and change on the list for February. I always look forward to adding something new from my ufo list.
I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I decided that for 2023, rather than work a little on each one at a time, I would concentrate on just one. I still use the list to plan and look ahead. My focus will be circa 1880 until it is quilted and bound. It is my one monthly goal for February.
2. circa 1880- More about this here. I added borders and it is ready to quilt. I made it my one monthy goal at elm street quilts to be sure I stick to it.
3. twisted braid - I have all the main blocks pieced and I am ready to make long vertical rows. I can't decide on a sashing color - red? blue?
4. radiant star from 2012 - is ready to quilt but circa is first.
new 5. scrappy pinwheels. I need to open the box. My notes say, all the pieces have been cut and sewn. It is time to make the blocks
new 1. wool lady table runner. AGAIN, I need to open the box and see how far it is done before I can start on the finish
oops - On a whim, I am starting a new project which will delay the wool table runner. Linda O and I bought the same pattern at a quilt show and we are going to sew it together for awhile. I am sure she will soon out pace me, and, it might turn into a UFo. But, I enjoy a bit of the friendly competition.
MY next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet.

one monthly goal - circa 1880
I am tiring of this quilt, again. It has been in time out 2 other times for various reasons. I will make this my February one monthly goal, hoping that the goal will inspire me to stick to it. It began as a swap. The blocks were my one monthly goal for January 2019
I have the border sewn. But it is too tight, so I will need to unpick it, and remeasure, and resew. A tiny set back that has me scratching my head. What happened? I want to quilt and bind by the end of february.
