blossom blocks finished

I worked on the quilt blossom time through the year in 2022 making the blossoms by color from the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I needed 140 and I have finished 140. This project is retiring to the ufo closet, hopefully, for a short vacation before finishing.

I went through my black 2 inch strip bag and made a few more zippers.

I need 23 more zippers. There is a chance that with brown next month and odd colors in december, I can have the zipper blocks all made by the end of the month. And, then, these blocks will get a spa vacation, too.
I will still need to work on cross and crown, and hunters star next year. I have a few projects I have my on making. we will see.

light blue finish

I finished with the light blues. I made some star and crown blocks.

And, I spent some time sewing blocks into twosomes for the hunter's star. Otherwise, I worked on the 5 UFO quilts I have going, to move them along, while I waited for the new color for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I guess the color will be lime and light green. IT might be time to cut that color for an older UFo called swingin checkerboard  that needs green for the sashing.

I can't believe it October already. It seems  like yesterday I was planting seeds in the garden. My heart goes out to Floridians everywhere.

fish and crown

I did a head count of the fish blocks for the year and I have 190 which is about half of what I need. I have the colors ready to cut from this years rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I think I will set this aside until next year and start making blocks. I bought the pattern kismet from quiltville of her fish quilt, and, will use that as my pattern for the top.

oops I have a fish swimming in the wrong direction - silly fish

I finished the orange crown blocks for last month. and, I have 22 more of them to do for the top I want to make. Looks like this will be next years project for rsc as well. Although, I can still use black and brown this year, it won't be enough. Am I the only one thinking about next year already? I have 1 new project planned.

last purple rsc saturday

This is the last Saturday for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I spent the week finishing what I needed in purple for my rainbow projects. And, I am ready for the new color.

I had a few blue waffle stamp blocks

star and crown

And it is sweet corn yummy season here. Our favorite farmer has his stand open and we are loving his corn. We grew a bit but it isn't ready. But it is time to sit out with a bee bee gun and protect it from the critters haha

crown blocks

I finished the blue star and crown blocks from the June rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I was a bit behind and dawdled finishing. I have at least cut the purple blocks for the July blocks, but, haven't started them.

We have had a good rain this week and milder heat ( 89 instead of 90) The garden appreciates it. We had a small batch of beans, and Indiana corn is on the corners everywhere, 7.00 a dozen here. Last year it was 5.50 a dozen. and when we started our family it was 1.00 a dozen ... good times.

purple blossoms

This week I have been working on blossom time in purple for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I had pieces already to sew from the first time I worked on them in 2020. I have 7 done and need 5 more in purple.

I found this planter at aldis. It is like the green stalk everyone is talking about on gardening channels, But, much cheaper. I have planted fall crops in here. Carrots, radishes, green beans, sage. We will see if this works or becomes a chore to keep watered. At least it isn't taking up space in the garden.

crown blocks

This is it for sewing for the  rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Two cross and crown blocks is all I could muster this week. And blue was the color for June that I did not make yet.

I harvested nasturtium flowers and leaves, and pansies. I will dry them for soap this winter.

pretty blossoms

I started to plan the blossom time blocks in blue, then, I realized that the leftovers from my maple leaves quilt I am assembling, will be perfect for the blossom time blocks. I didn't need to cut anything for June blossoms. Now, I need to make a few more 4 patches to keep going with these. I have 80 + blocks. My goal is 128.

I am trying to clean out the freezer to make room for the upcoming harvest this year. I found some stew meat I could can and free up a little space. Now, I have easy beef for an easy dinner. At this stage of our life, I need to find easy ways to fix dinner. We are both tired at the end of the day and don't want to mess with cooking.

crown

I still need to catch up a few green projects from May. These star and crown blocks are now finished. I had them cut, but, couldn't get them together for May. The choices for green reproduction fabrics was easy. I have plenty. And June's color is blue, and I have plenty of those as well.

We are growing our potatoes in buckets this year. The idea was to extend the garden a little, and, maybe, it will work to dump the bucket instead of digging them. We will see if we like this experiment when we harvest. But, they seem to be doing well. Some years we have a good harvest, and, some years, the critters beat us to them. Maybe buckets will at least give them a harder time.

star and crown blocks

I started the green blocks for star and crown a little late this month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I only have 4 of them done, but, the other 4 are cut and ready to go. I need to dig out some background scraps. I am running low on those fabrics.

I did 2 zipper blocks as leader/enders. I need to cut some solids. Finding scraps in print fabric isn't hard, but solids are not something I use very often. I have been through the 2 inch drawers and have pulled as many as I could find. It is time to actually cut, actual fabric.

Carrots were 97 cents a bag at Kroger this week so I bought, and canned. I used pints now that we are mostly just the two of us.

Our supply of peanut butter was Jiff and was part of the recall, and we had eaten some of it. The interesting thing I discovered, was the best buy date was May 12 2022. And I bought it at sam's club a month ago. I am guessing it sat at the port on a container ship for awhile. So check new food you buy for dates.

pink star and crown blocks

I found some lovely pinks in my reproduction fabrics and scraps to make these star and crown blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy

The farmer around us "cleaned" our fence row with a skid steer and claw. He did a lot of damage to our trees and made a big pile to burn 12 feet behind our property. He did pick a misty morning to burn it, but, I was very anxious about it spreading to our place.
Trees are being destroyed all around our area for "progress" I think the green people should be more concerned about that. It will take generations to restore that ecosystem. sigh....

pink blossoms

I cut for my pink projects and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

go fish 2 1/2, waffle stamp 1 1/2, easy breezy 1 1/2

I had enough blossom time strips already cut to make all the pink I would need, from when I started this quilt a few years ago. I did need to cut the HSTS and make more stems and leaves. And, now, I am out of any premade 4 patches for the corners going forward. Rhododendron trail mystery quilt had seriously decimated my pink scraps, so, it is a good thing I had these already in the box.

I canned 9 pints of ham chunks this week. The ham was a good sale price and my freezer is full.  I haven't done ham before and I was surprised how dark the water became after pressure canning.  I am already looking forward to ham and beans next winter.

star and crown blocks

I  love the yellow/gold colors of civil war reproduction fabrics. This month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I made 10 star and crown blocks as part of my ongoing project. I am making them using 2 inch strips. I am practicing better piecing with these blocks instead of rushing.

my aqua blocks

I planted carrots and spinach in tubs on  our back porch. We have not planted this early before, so we will see.

oh scrap sunday

blossom time

It is Spring time in the sewing room. And I have planted radishes outside. hooray. I already had strips cut in yellow for blossom time and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I just needed hsts  and squares cut. I ran out of stem and leaves and had to cut more to finish. And, now, I better make some ahead for the next color.

aqua star and crown

This is the last Saturday of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made the star and crown blocks in aqua. Again, I think some of them are just blue or green, but, they are the closest I could find in my civil war reproduction fabrics. Sprinkled in with the others they will be pretty. I think I have all the projects done in aqua.

Hopefully, I am at a guild sewing day today. I missed last month because of covid, but, I have a few projects I want to move along. I am thinking I will take full stop quilt and maybe another jelly roll quilt. Oh the possibilities.

hunters star start

I ordered a new hunters star accuquilt die during the holidays. I decided for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I would cut 20 of each color this year, and maybe, sew them next year. I have plenty of projects this year,  ( and every future year of my life ), so it seemed prudent to just cut while the scraps are out and available. However, they have been mocking me as they sit in their little container. Just one, they say. What if you can't do it, they say.  Well...I can, and I like making them. I will probably sew them as leader/enders while I sew other projects. That means, fish school, and easy breezy will just have to wait.

I gave myself a pass last month since most of my red blocks were finished for boho heart. But, I have several aqua/blue blocks to make this month. I have a little problem with aqua. I think I see it as aqua until I put it with blue. sigh then it is just blue.

spring blossoms

It's almost Spring... ok we have 6 inches of snow on the ground and the temps are in the teens, BUT, Spring is coming.

I have aqua blossom time blocks done for the month of February and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I had hoped for 12 but the final count was ...11 sigh...

It is time to prune the grapevines. We haven't taken care of them for several years. Time for maple sugar season. And I hope we prune the apple tree. I am ready for Spring.

star and crown in red

My last red project for the month and the rainbow scrap challenge are the blocks I am doing called star and crown. I am doing these blocks as a technique block to see if I can get everything a little more precise. I  think I did do better, by slowing down and making sure I redid it if I didn't like it.

I wonder what color February will be.
