hunters star and waffles

This is the last week in April for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I finished cutting and sewing for my Hunter's star

Then, I felt that I had enough of a variety to try putting 2 blocks together and see how it looks. I think I am going to like it a lot.

I made s few waffle stamp blocks in pink to finish the month. I thought I had made all the blocks I would need last year, but, somehow I was very short when I tried to put them together. I think I misplaced some of them. So, I am trying to make more this year, too. I don't mind, I like making them.

Spring is here. Our lawn mower is in the hospital. Our neighbor has mowed 5 times already.- LOL -I am harvesting chives and dehydrating them. I only have 2 clumps of them, but, they are very busy growing. I think the rhubarb needs a haircut, too.

zip it up

I started a new block, recently, called Zipper. I saw it on sane, crazy crumby quilts, and, she referred to Klein meisje quilts

I wasn't sure I was going to start sewing these this year, but, I couldn't resist. I cut the pink for April's rsc color. And, the next thing I know, I am sewing them.

I have been cutting scraps for stashbuster block from Border Creek Station Pattern Company, but, this is my first block. The idea is to make 1 each week. I guess I am behind.

I spent a little time harvesting weeds. I have peppermint, viola, dandelion leaves and flowers and wild chives. I hope to get them on the dehydrator racks soon. The box made me smile. I only meant to cut the chives, but the dandelions were so pretty and the violas were growing with the dandelions.

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink - I started a new block this month called zipper? I am thinking 12 of each color/month

and the cornerstones

3. Boho heart - I made 2 blocks in group 1 in orange.

4. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. I finished the two sides that were not finished with the arrangement of the dsp blocks. And I added a border. It is now ready for the to be quilted "vault"

5. wonderland holiday runner I used a random number generator for this older UFO - I pieced a back and prepared binding. It is ready for quilting and then I can add the prairie points at each end. sent to the "vault"

6. maple leaves - I am still adding sashing to each block

7. fair and square - I need to finish each block and trim the string blocks. I started sewing 2 triangles together and noticed they need trimming. They won't fit at this size. It helps to look at the pattern.

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 44 in my pile. As I am finishing old UFOs, the number is growing.

1. bricks in the barnyard -found - back- binding - on the frame - quilted - binding - finished - hooray

stash report April 24, 2022

I added some fat quarters to my stash and 2 charm square packs. The fat quarters were floral, but have very "blendy" colors. The charm packs are light neutrals that are always needed.

Stash report  April 24, 2022

fabric added: 12 yards

fabric added year to date: 44 1/2 yards

fabric used: 12 yards  bricks in the barnyard finished

fabric used year to date: 128 yards

83 1/2 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 4 days last week.

I started the background for my friendsheep rug. I was happy with my third try at a blue sky, and started the hooking. It is a little darker than the picture shows. So glad to work on this rug again. Although, I haven't decided on the border, yet.

pink star and crown blocks

I found some lovely pinks in my reproduction fabrics and scraps to make these star and crown blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy

The farmer around us "cleaned" our fence row with a skid steer and claw. He did a lot of damage to our trees and made a big pile to burn 12 feet behind our property. He did pick a misty morning to burn it, but, I was very anxious about it spreading to our place.
Trees are being destroyed all around our area for "progress" I think the green people should be more concerned about that. It will take generations to restore that ecosystem. sigh....

one monthly goal finish

I have a finish for April's one monthly goal at elm street quilts. Bricks in  the brickyard is quilted and bound. I started it in 2012. Bricks in the barnyard is found in Bonnie Hunter's Book- scraps and shirt tails 2 . I decided to use it as part of my 5 quilts ufo list in September 2021. At that time, the blocks were in 6 horizontal sections. I sewed the rows and added an inner and outer border and it was ready for the quilt vault.

I drew the number for quilting and finishing it this month. And now, tada, it is done. It seems to be lap size or twin. I forgot to remeasure. It has 12 yards of scrap fabric in it.

I free motion quilted swirls and feathers on the longarm. I handstitched the binding. And I used a sheet for the backing.

scrap play

Just a little fun with triangles. I had a pile on the sewing table and rather than put them in "the bucket", I just made a few beauty baskets. And yes, I dug some more out of the bucket and made a bigger mess. But, I was a happy girl.

I made a few yellow easy breezy blocks, lately, as leader/ enders. It takes 11 steps to complete one. It's a simple block, but, several steps.

I have a little more done on boho heart.

antique tile quilt

At our group open sew, we saw many fun projects. This quilt was made entirely from a large box of 2 inch squares. She is ready to quilt.

This is Sue's  boho heart. She is part of our little group making this quilt together. She is the first to finish. I have Linda's boho to quilt for her, Judy has most of the blocks made, and I have the first whole section on the left almost together.

Linda was working on her tula pink quilt.

and added a border

And I was able to sew all the rows together for my antique tile quilt.

These are the scraps that were placed by my sewing machine. It seems I am the depository of unwanted scraps. They know how much I like them. I am so grateful.

a little hole in the wall

I am cutting more pink scraps from 2 1/2 inch strips.

new zipper pieces and stashbuster

Pink is a good color for these Hole in the barn blocks. I just unearthed ( by cleaning) more yellow block parts.

yellow blocks here

Hubby and I traveled to a fiber fair yesterday in Greencastle Indiana. It was the first one since the pandemic started.
I have more than enough fleece already at home, but they look so nice for spinning.

fair and square project

I knew I was going to need more projects to take for our Friday and open sews coming up in April. I decided to dig out Fair and square and see what was next for moving this project along. The first thing I did was check the blog posts for any mention of this quilt. And I was surprised to read that this project has been a mystery with me from the beginning. I wrote this in 2019  about a string puzzle

Admittedly, it has been awhile since I sat at the treadle to make string blocks. But, when I did, I found a small pile of shirt string blocks that I don't remember. Did I just decide to make them for the parts department or were they intentional. There were paper foundations cut to a specific size and stacked in sets of 10. and there were at least 50. That means they were intentional but for what?  I just don't remember. I have looked through my pinterest boards and my in process lists, and I can't seem to figure it out yet. Until I do, I am still stringing along with them as I can. It may take awhile. This getting old thing is for the birds.

using my treadle

Next I wrote

Here I talked about a puzzle I had with a batch of shirting string blocks that I didn't remember. I had gone through my ufo lists and my wish lists, and I couldn't find any project that I would want these blocks, but I had precut a substantial number of foundation squares, so, I just kept going. I had about 10 squares left when I saw the quilt again that inspired them. It is fair and square - a quiltville pattern. Puzzle solved. They are finished now, trimmed and depapered. It's time to look at what else I will need to do for this pattern.

next I wrote

I later realized, I had started fair and square without making any note of it.
After the string blocks were finished, I started making 360- 4 patches that finish at 2 1/2 inches.

last time I blogged

Two Friday group sews, and all the 4 patches are attached for Fair and square, a quiltville pattern. I am thrilled with the scrappy goodness.

Now, I am scratching my head again. But, I will take it with me and start the process to get this quilt to a top.

5 quilts April 13, 2022

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report April 4th

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink - I made waffle stamp blocks in yellow for March, yes March. I was behind making these.

2. Every which way- I added one border with fabric from the box and this one is officially sent to the "to be quilted" vault

3. rhododendren mystery - hunter -  I have all the block B finished- Next, I need to make setting triangles with the hourglasses.

4. Love jelly roll This is the 4th jelly roll used for the year. I am aiming for 12. I have added the last round of fabric to this quilt and I am calling it done. it is 48 x50. It will make a great donation quilt. Spring is here and it is either raining or windy. I will piece a back and prepare the binding and it will go into the vault to wait it's turn for quilting.

5. DSP9-  I had a box of 9 patches that I had set aside to make disappearing 9 patches. The top is together, but, I didn't think to plan the 2 sides that are without the print fabric - decision time.

5. wonderland holiday runner I used a random number generator for this older UFO - I need to find it and see what it needs

I have added Boho heart back into the list for 5 quilts or it won't get made.

We found this lovely lavender colored flower next to our tulip tree. Does anyone know what it is?

MY  next on the longarm of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. I am not getting ahead on this. I now have 42 in my pile.
