boho blocks

My quilt guild had an open sew at the library Saturday. I took  all my boho heart stuff, hoping to sort, and, organize, yet, again. I want to get this done. I feel like I am close, and, it is a real possibility. If, I stick to it, I can see it done in the next 2 weeks. I made these blocks and joined as much as possible together. These are from group 3.

I am looking at the 4th and last group of blocks to sew next.

frolic finish

I have finished my one monthly goal for November. I finished frolic quiltville mystery quilt from 2019. I kept current on the clues until it was time to assemble the blocks. That seems to be my undoing. I take longer to do that, I guess. I really like the colors and pattern of the blocks. This will be my 19th finished quiltville mystery quilt. I have a page here that shows them from the first to the last that I have done. I still have rhododendron to quilt and grassy creek to add borders.

I used a flannel back and an older binding. I did free motion swirls on my longarm for the quilting.

Stash report November 27, 2022

I bought another neutral piece for my boho heart quilt. I am using these colors as the background.

Stash report November 27, 2022

fabric added: 1 yards
fabric added year to date: 135.5 yards

fabric used: 7 1/4 yards

fabric used year to date: 224 yards

90.50 yards used more than bought.

I sewed 6 days last week.

As I was cleaning a pile of stuff, I found a bit of fluff, and thought it had been a while, since, I had spun anything. I always enjoy the process. I find it soothing and relaxing. I need to make some time for this again. I could pack it all away, if, I don't actually spin anything. Once, I do, I am hooked again. I dyed this wool, and carded it a few years ago.

rhododendron progress

It has been soooo cold here this past weekend, and we are still recovering from covid. There was nothing to do but work on rhododendron mystery quilt from last year.

I added inner and outer borders. I may change the cornerstones. I could not find the ones I made during the mystery. And I didn't want to be creative. I wanted it done.

I made the back from a sheet and a leftover pink piece from another back. It was almost to much math for me.

I even cut and made the binding. I can see the end in sight. I have a customer quilt to finish, and, then, I am going to put this quilt on the frame. I have pushed this one a little harder, thinking I can't start another mystery until this one is done.  I am still deciding if I am going to make another mystery. It's a hard decision for me. I have made them all and I like the colors this year, but, I have so many UFOs, I should not add another. I still have 5 days to decide. Any one making Chilhowie?

strings for Kismet

I spent a few evenings at the treadle making string units. I was trying to make ahead, the units for the fish school blocks, I have been making for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I cut fish school blocks for the leader/ ender challenge 2021 and made  quite a few, but, didn't keep up for the year. So, this year I cut for RSC. And, about that time, Bonnie Hunter shared her pattern kismet of her finished fish school. I decided, I wasn't far enough along, that I couldn't switch to kismet for finishing my project. I still need many more blocks. I plan to work on that part next year for rsc 2023 ( can you believe we are nearly there?)

These blocks are trimmed to 3 1/2 inches. And, I am ready to go. I don't like stringing that small. I used a 7 inch square foundation instead, and, cut it in quarters after I de papered and pressed.

Next year, I will have to make the HSTS each month with the color of the month. Hopefully, by the end of 2023, I can assemble

5 quilts 11/16

last report 5 quilts October 31 , 2022

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

1. rhododendren mystery - Bonnie hunter - the top center is together. And I did get brave enough to trim.

2. Boho heart - I have finished a small section of group 3

3. I am working on the sashings of dotty bow ties.  The bow tie blocks are made. I am slowly adding a sashing to the center of each block, 10 at a time. All of the blocks are made, but, I am short a few. Do I make more or make the quilt smaller .....hmm

4. circa 1880-  More about this here. All the rows are sewn together that I have made.

5. scrappy twirl  - finished - hooray

new number 5 - frolic mystery - back and binding - re-ironed - frame

going at a snails pace

Everything here has stopped as we are covid positive. I did play with snail trails again before....

I went into the grocery store Friday morning, early, and, when I came out, I had a surprise. By the end of the day, we had several inches. It was pretty, but, the day before it was nearly 70 degrees.

blossom blocks finished

I worked on the quilt blossom time through the year in 2022 making the blossoms by color from the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I needed 140 and I have finished 140. This project is retiring to the ufo closet, hopefully, for a short vacation before finishing.

I went through my black 2 inch strip bag and made a few more zippers.

I need 23 more zippers. There is a chance that with brown next month and odd colors in december, I can have the zipper blocks all made by the end of the month. And, then, these blocks will get a spa vacation, too.
I will still need to work on cross and crown, and hunters star next year. I have a few projects I have my on making. we will see.

finish scrappy twirl

I started this quilt in 2018 and I called it template twirls. I made it using the crazy 6 templates from creative grids as part of an experiment. I was determined to go through my templates, at the time, or get rid of them. I made several quilts or tops at the time, and had so much fun, I kept the templates LOL

This is a great use for all the little bits of strings and crumbs

60 x 70 and the sun was funny for the photo

I quilted all over bubbles and added the binding by machine.

16 patch blocks

I blogged about my UFO dilemma here. I now have 20 blocks finished, enough for a lap size quilt. I have certainly had fun making these, but, what to do with them, now. I have all but a bit of the scraps used, and, I am ready to move on from here. I don't want to make a quilt. I am guessing I will put them into the parts department.

chicken breast was on sale this week. I decided to can some of it for easy dinners.

zipping along

Once, I started finishing my zipper blocks instead of doing them with the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, I just kept sewing most of the forgotten ones. I do enjoy making them, once, I start. It is a fun surprise each time I finish one to see how they look. It was a nice break after working on the top of rhododendron mystery.

blossom blocks

I made a few blossom time blocks as part of my rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I finished the center of rhododendron quiltville mystery

I made zipper blocks. I put frolic quiltville mystery quilt on the longarm as part of my one monthly goal.

I have been ironing scraps from a gifted bag.

I have been enjoying wonderful fall weather. It is still 70 during the day with pretty aqua blue skies. I am not looking to plunging into total darkness with changing our clocks back, tomorrow.

rhododendron is pieced

With just a little bit of fall weather, I took the chance to take a photo outside of Rhododendron mystery quilt, ready for borders. I really am uncomfortable cutting the edge off a quilt. So, I will have to work up the courage. Next, is a turquoise inner border and a pieced outer border. So glad to have this almost done, before the new mystery starts in November. The real mystery is, where did I put the turquoise fabric?

The nasturtiums are still alive.

One monthly goal frolic

I left frolic as a top in 2020. It required a border decision. I want to finish it for my November one monthly goal. Especially if, I want to make the new quiltville mystery, Chilhowie. I have all 18 of them made until this one, and grassy creek as a top, and rhododendron almost a top. I have a page at the top of the blog with pictures in order. I am not going to add another border. It is time to move it along.

I was gifted 2 big bags of scraps from someone who has not been converted to the dark side of scrappy quilts, yet. It was full of treasures and a bit of bits too small even for me. They weighed 18 1/2 pounds which is close to 54 yards of fabric. It took a week to iron one of the bags and sort. I cut a few before a bum thumb, but, I could iron with the other hand. I find pleasure sorting through someone else's scraps, even though, I don't need any more than I already have, hiding in cracks and crevices of my own stash.
Maybe, I should eliminate 54 yards from my stash to make room. LOL The time will come, but, not yet.
