5 quilt May, 8, 2026

It has been awhile since my last report of the 5 quilt project. Matter of fact, I completely forgot about it while in Florida.

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another.

I have 32 quilts this year that are in the running for time at the sewing machine. In 2024, I finished 41. It was a miracle. In 2025, I finished 14. I don't know what the difference was. I do know the 5 quilt project has been a true help in overcoming overwhelm and procrastination. But, some quilts take longer than others. The first mention I found of the 5 quilts was in October 2021. I remember, I was talking with quilty friends and mentioned I was overwhelmed with the shear number of ufos and quilts I want to make. A friend said, maybe if you just focus on a small number of quilts at a time.... And tada, the sun came out and everything was unicorns and rainbows. It has helped me remain active in my favorite sport ( quilting)

Making a report every month may be boring, But it keeps my mind focused. I will try to stay up to date with that. That is why I have decided to bring it back for me in 2026. I am a little late getting started.

hollow nine - from 2023 that needs the border appliqued. I have cut the flowers and the stem is ready. I just need to attach. This is still on the list for 2026, but, I haven't worked on it lately.

red and brown pfeffernuesse quilt- I discovered a couple blocks turned wrong and had to rip them out and turn them. But, we are back on track, after I resew. It will be ready to quilt. I plan on that next Spring. It will be a top priority in 2026. It is on the frame ready to be quilted.

dresden blocks - I have all the plates machine appliqued and have started to hand sew the center medalions. I have one done.

stars 2 bits - I have had the star blocks for a few years, but, still need to add borders to the blocks

Editya Sitar baskets - I have just a bit started before I dropped the ball.

1. wedding ring I have had this ready for a few years, but, I am afraid to quilt it myself. I want it to be special and I don't do special. So I will work to talk my self into it..... some day That didn't happen in

5 quilt December 26, 2025

It has been awhile since my last report of the 5 quilt project. I found myself stuck with two challenging quilts, Rather than just reporting the same quilts over and over, I just kept working.

It is the end of December, and I am making a new list for 2026. I have 32 quilts next year that are in the running for time at the sewing machine. In 2024, I finished 41. It was a miracle. hollow nine - from 2023 that needs the border appliqued. I have cut the flowers and the stem is ready. I just need to attach.

My December phd report: I ended with 14 ufos finished this year, and no new starts.

chunky churn dash finish

I found the top for chunky churn dash in with my rug hooking earlier this year. I thought it was lost forever. I have no idea why it went on vacation with the rug hooking wool, but, I am glad I found it. Chunky churn dash is a free Bonnie Hunter pattern, and I really like the way it looks when finished.

I started the scrappy blocks in 2013. Apparently, I had made the top and then, it was lost. I made it a priority for my 5 quilt project. I added borders and, now, it is finished.

Snowball quilt finish

Snowball blocks quilt is finished. I made the first block in 2021, when I found this at Suzies-scraps.com, scrappy snowballs. it uses 29 scrappy 2 inch squares in each block plus the sashings.

I added it to my 5 quilt project in June this year. It was just the scrappy project that I enjoy. I cut my scraps down to useable sizes. I can just open a drawer, and the parts are ready to piece into a quilt. The piecing is quick and easy. Each quilt is a wonderful surprise.

hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border -Which I intend to applique. I need more flowers cut in a variety of colors. I think I am about ready to do that.

I have added another goal to the 5 quilts project. I want to take one day a month and cut scraps. I will have plenty to choose from since I really didn't cut any for 2024, and the bags of uncut scraps are piling up, all over the fabric room. The bag weighed 1 pound 8 ounces. When I was done, the parts weighed 9 ounces = 1 1/2 yards of useable fabric. I still have a bit left to cut. For the year, the total is 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them:

scrappy twirl - I have prepared the border and need to add it to the top. As I was digging through project boxes looking for a quilt, I discovered an entire batch of cut pieces for scrappy twirl. That changes everything. I kept wondering why the near -finished top was so small. Apparently, I cut most of the quilt and put it in a box. But, I needed more, so, I cut a smaller batch, and put them in a different box. I have been making lists of my options to finish, and I am exhausted with the whole project. I am retiring this quilt for another day.

scrappy snowballs -2 inch scrap block. It was my one monthly goal for June to have a top. It didn't get done. I have all the rows made, and ready to assemble. These are 2 out of 4 blocks per row. I will make it my one monthly goal for August to have a top.

I finished 1 ufo in June - 7th for the year

hollow nine - rainbow scrap challenge from 2023 that needs the border -Which I intend to applique. fingers crossed.

broken dishes made with civil war fabrics I am not sure I am finishing this. I decided to postpone this ufo for another time.

I replaced it with a scrappy snowballs -2 inch scrap block. This ufo had more pieces ready for quicker sewing. This is my one monthly goal for June to have a top. I can still get it done. I have a Friday sew and an open sew this weekend. If I concentrate, it might happen. But concentration has not been my long suit lately.

I have finished cutting the 9 pound box of shirts. This time the cut pieces weighed 3 pounds 6 ounces which is 10 1/2 yards of useable fabric. The total yardage for the box was 26 1/2 yards of useable fabric. For the year, the total is 35 yards of useable fabric. And I had fun socializing while I was doing it -bonus.

zipper is finished

zipper blocks is a finished quilt. I started this quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge in 2022. I was able to use many of my solid scraps in this fun and easy scrap quilt. I saw it on sane, crazy crumby quilts, and, she referred to Klein meisje quilts. At the end of the year, I put it away. In 2025, as part of my 5 quilt project, I decided to finish it. I started piecing the blocks into twosies and then, foursies. In May, I began making rows

I cut a big scrap bag for May. The original box weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces of shirtings scraps. The cut pieces weighed 1 pound 4 ounces which is 4 yards of useable fabric. 2025- totals so far 16 1/2 yards of useable fabric
