free Christmas quilt along

I have been scouring the internet on several occasions to find a pattern for Homespun Holiday for purchase in case anyone else would like to make one.

I haven't found any. My pattern is from a 2013 magazine that I had cut and saved for myself. Tanya Finken, who designed the pattern for Quilt magazine, doesn't seem to have an internet presence. and it looks like Quilt magazine went out of business. So I am baffled.  I don't want to step on any copyright laws, but I feel I have done my due diligence.
So, on that note, I have found the pattern named something else with the downloads for the same pattern. If you are interested, you can find it here. I will be sharing each week how I am making it and encourage anyone else who might be interested.
The first step would be to download the paper piecing templates. If you follow the link and scroll to the bottom of the page, there will be download links for the 16 inch block that I will be making. You need to print 8 copies of the square in a square ( Base block). You will need 64 copies of the built up square ( corner geese block). and 32 copies of the flying geese ( straight geese block).

I went to the dollar store and bought a great paper for tearing and printing and it was only a dollar per pad. Any cheap drawing paper will work. you will need 112 sheets of paper. Some of the templates will print 2 per page.

hippie baby part 2

Project #1, in the project box, was to take odds and ends blocks and leftover pieces from a quilt I did a few years ago and make a baby quilt with it.
I first had to take a rail off the rail fence blocks since mine had 5 rails and the pattern called for 4. But I knew I would use that rail as another piece.

Then I needed to cut the blocks into 4 1/2 inch strip sets.

 I added 7/8 of a yard of the light fabric that I showed in my blog post on Monday. I didn't have enough block fabric to make the 4 1/2 in rectangles, so I added from my 2 1/2 inch strip bin. Here it is all cut and ready to be assembled.

It was easy to add the side rectangles to the strip sets making an 8 1/2 inch block. I added 2 1/2 inch squares to the individual rectangles. And I made strip sets of 2 of 8 1/2 inch strips.

This is the alternate block.

I am thrilled to be using the leftovers from a previous quilt and to be actually sewing. I have been cutting, mostly, for some time, and I was restless for an easy project.

Every morning I am making 2 of these friendship stars for a swap. I am having fun seeing each one as I iron it when they are finished. My little basket is getting empty. It looks like I may have to cut more background pieces.

I have a customer quilt to deliver.

I thought the fabrics were gorgeous. I used an allover paisley in red. It looks great.

I would like to share how I am moving along my quiltville mystery quilt challenge, But I'm not moving. I did finish a mystery quilt last week- Carolina Crossroads. But I have already shared that.

however, I can't find the next 2 mystery quilts on the project shelves. But, I did find an interesting project box, and while I am looking for double delight mystery quilt, I will quickly finish these projects in the box and empty it.  Squirrel....

I made a jelly roll quilt a few years ago and had 8 blocks leftover. I thought they would be enough to make a baby quilt. I have decided on a quick pattern, and now I have to decide on the background.
The pattern is from fat quarter shop, called jelly roll slice. I liked this one.

Did I like it because of the gray background?

 or did I like the piecing so I could use the lighter background?

 hmm .... I will walk around it today and then decide. Which do you like?

I was gifted a magic bundle of scraps. I have kept them near my cutting table waiting for inspiration to strike. But, as I was cleaning, I rediscovered them, and decided it was time to just do something, even if it was just throw them into the string bucket. There were pieces already sewn together, mostly 1 1/2 inch strips. The fabrics were so cute, I just knew there had to be a good use for them.

They were not all the same size at all. I thought about just cutting them into 4 patches and 9 patches, but, there would be so many, but not enough for any one scrappy project. Then it hit me. I needed to work on Birch trees, and these would be great sewn together for the strips. It would not be a big waste in time or function. And I would be moving a project I already have, forward. Score!

This week for my rainbow scrap challenge I worked with my Tokoyo subway quilt. Some of the blocks were much easier to add the yellow since so many other blocks were already added. That makes them easier to iron when there isn't any exposed interfacing. There was yellow in 11 blocks, and I had to start 3 new blocks.

In Friday Group, I am working on a lap quilt that uses these great fabrics by Riley Blake. It was part of a kit, Mint Sorbet, that I bought in Utah. It is a great Springtime project. Unfortunately, Spring is still not here in Indiana.

Carolina Crossroads finish

Carolina Crossroads is finished.
This was the first Quiltville mystery in 2007. I didn't join in until a couple years later.
The colors are brighter than they seem on my monitor. The blues are batiks.

I used a sheet on the back and a squooshed swirl to quilt it.

This was one of my April goals for One monthly goal. If I finish the mystery quilts in order, I have 2008 Orange Crush and 2008 old tobacco road finished. The next one to do is Double Delight from 2009.
I have 7 finished and the rest have been started and are in various stages of completion. I have a page at the top of the page to show what I am working to do.
